Oh has anyone ever ripped the outer seems out of a pair of jeans and put in fabric to add a few inches?

I just make Cassie patch jeans high school musical themed and didnt try them on first of course they are to tight on her thighs..

I wanted a pair of jeans for my dd, that looked like tuxedo pants. She had black jeans and I opened the side seam all the way up to the waist and added a black velvet in the opening. I would do it in some funky color and everyone will think that you wanted them that way..You could even make it in a triangle on the bottom to give her a flare leg on the bottom...Good luck sewing...

SoI go to walmart tonight to buy some plain black fabric to finish
Belle' Strip jumper shirt thingy... no black.. ahhhh but found 1/2 a yard pre-cut for .83.. that will do.

go to pay and it scans $47!!!!! lololo the cashier is like.. do you still want it.. not at $47 he kept adding it on taking it off.. had to void it..

finally he just throw it in the bag

And I thought that only happened to me! I was trying to by a remnant at Wal-Mart a few weeks ago. It was clearly marked .79 cents. It kept ringing up $7.90. The checker kept ringing it up over and over again. I had to make her take it off for every time she rang it up. She acted all confused and kept shrugging her shoulders. Finally I gave up and left without it. Poor woman behind me in line!

I got the fabric at JoAnn believe it or not. I had the buttons and red bling here. The ruffle wasn't that hard. I just cut three strips that were the same length but different widths, sewed up the side seam, hemmed each one and then sewed them together at the top. Then I measured how long the ruffle was (remembering to subtract for the seam allowance) and cut that much off the jeans - sewed the ruffle on - and then topstitched to make it lay right. I hope that I am making sense - LOL.

Hi Tink...I didn't know you were in Daytona...LOL...anyway I had trouble with that pattern too. The part that is the bodice, isn't right. When you make it, the neckline is way too short, so when you put the pieces together and line up the underarm seams, the bodice is shorter than the sleeves on top. If this makes any sense. Cut the bodice part, longer on the area that goes near the neck and it should work. If this is your first time using that pattern, use junky fabric that you don't really love, or you might be sorry...I'm sorry that I couldn't explain it better. Sometime we should get together and sew...LOL

You explained it just fine, I can see there was no way the pattern could work, but I thought it was just me! I used the peasant pattern in Theresa's links last time, and it worked great, I probably should stick with that.


Ye, We're almost neighbors! We went to the Volusia county fair tonight, and decided again that Disney is better, and costs less. Even the kids were commenting about all the smokers walking around and blowing it in your face, dd15 said you don't see that at WDW!

Question - you know the blue Disney Christmas fabric with Mickey and the gang and a choo choo etc???? do you think thats boyish or girlish? I was going to make DN 3 a little pair of pants, but not sure cause minnie is on the fabric - thoughts????

I think it is fine for a boy or girl since it is a scene and just minnie.

Well I have tried keeping up with this thread and I notice it eats up my sewing time, so now I am just going to join you all and simply post my latest sewing projects. Just so you all know, there have been amazing outfits and I feel a little silly putting my two on (which are completely cased from here). But here goes....


Here is my DD2.5 in her Thanksgiving outfit...she calls it her "dobble dobble outfit". Despite this it actually does say "Gobble" on the leg. I am making matching bows after I finish some other projects.

Ok next is my attempt at a playful Christmas outfit to wear to school etc. It's a dress and matching pants. Once again...no bows yet but I still have to finish my DD4's.

Ok back to lurkdome and sewing....one more day till I go back to work.

I really like both of those, cased or not, it is your work and DD looks so happy! and to me casing is a compliment!

I really love this. It is unique with the colors and the tree and holly leaves are just too cute!

Great idea castle! I was sitting here thinking what could you do to fix those pants and nothing came to mind! I need to do this to a few pair of mine, think I have been eating a few too many candy bars from halloween!

I figured after making 2 tops without any complications I'd be ready to attempt sleeves, a collar and buttons Soooo, I thought I would compensate for adding these new complications by choosing one of those Kwik Sew Learn to Sew patterns I mean, they say they are designed for beginning sewers so it should have been easy right Well all I can say is pphhhhhtttt (that's a raspberry that is). If it wasn't for my sewing I would have never figured it out. Am I doomed to be in sewing class forever and never be able to understand pattern instrcutions I managed to keep my forehead away from nearby walls during moments of frustration and convinced myself that the seam ripper is indeed my friend. I showed my family and now they each want me to make them one too including DH and my dad! Oh boy...ok, done venting. So what do you guys think?

Looks great! I failed buttons & zippers 101 on Monday! So, I won't be trying buttons again until I get a new machine!!!!! Right now I have two bodices at my aunt's house so she can do the buttons for me!
