I asked for a serger for Christmas and my Mom thought it was a great idea but knew nothing about them. She asked a local seamstress in her town and she gave her a contact to call about them. This man recommended a Janome 204D for a beginner like myself. Does anyone know anything about this machine/brand. I was thinking there was some discussion about Janome a while back but I don't know if it was about a serger or their machines. The local sewing store here sells mainly Janome but they specialize more in the embroidery machines. TIA for any help you can give me!

I am sorry to the one who post this but I am just trying to show you all what it is I need help with. I hope you don't mind. I am using these overalls as the not so cased but kind cased surprised Christmas outfits for the girls to wear to dland xmas morning and I really trying hard not to waite till the last minute to finish them. Ok now here is my question how do I make the skirt and still make the side buttons functional? I don't want to cut before I know what I am doing for sure. And if I am covering the bib part with fabric do I need to remove the pockets? Any and all help would be seeeew great. TIA :flower3:

I made several of these outfits with skirts and/or ruffles for Makayla and I sewed the buttons shut. I must say that Makayla is slender. She will be 3 in Jan and wears a 2T, is 24 pounds. Nicholas is a bit bigger, wears a 3t. All of the overalls and shortalls that have put on them slip right up over their diapers and all. They are cut larger than shorts or jeans, hence the suspenders. This is how I have done it, but I don't want to ruin your customs. Unless a child is really chubby in the tummy, overalls and shortalls should fit rather loosely. Now when I had 12 mo shortalls and made them into a jumper for Makayla in a size 2t, I cut above the buttons and attached a skirt. But you need the shortalls for the ruffles. If they are the right size for the girls, you should be fine. This is just my own way of doing it and I am by no means a designer! Do you know what size the girls wear and what size your shortalls are? Are the girls slender of chubby? Cameron is really chubby everywhere, but in his size 6-12 overalls they just slide right on up...they are made rather big, like I said and hence the suspenders to keep them up.
Let me know if I can help explain further....I know what I want to say, but I don't always make sense...arterial flow, you know!

Susan

ps if you look at that picture, you can see how large the shorts part is compared to the suspender and bib part. Like someone else said, you could leave the button open and make a casing with elastice at the sides that will then cover the buttons when they are closed, but that seems like a lot of work to me, and probably not necessary if you have the correct size shortalls.

good luck, you are doing a very nice thing...heading out to Joann's to get fabric to make one of those elf looking hoodies for Makayla and a patch European dress to match...and finishing Nick's pirate outfit for WDW trip 12/1....the vest is black with white skulls and red glitter eyes...he loves "spooky" things....can't wait for my first cruise...just got my travel documents. Gotta love the DVC and points...I will need Omar the tent maker to make clothes for me when I get back...right now I am Pooh size...but after a cruise and the DDP, I should be tubby the tuba!

I have been looking for this fabric for a month now. Neither of the Hancock fabrics in my area has it. Not at Joanne's. Not at Hobby Lobby. Not at Walmart. I cannot find it on ebay or anywhere else.

Anyone seen it recently? Someone posted last time I asked about that they had just seen it at their Hancocks. If anyone has any to spare, can you pm? If anyone finds any at their local fabric store, could you get some for me and I can pay you to send it to me? I really want to make ds some overall and dd a matching dress for our trip in Jan/Feb!!!

I'm trying to use the YCMT peasant top (dainty designs) and I can't get it figured out. I even had them resend me the link, because I thought I printed it wrong, and I still can't get my pattern pieces to line up correctly. 3 out of 4 on the front and back are ok, but the one that says "place on fold" is wrong...it doesnt fit at all. And the sleeves are totally wrong, I think I've lost part of the pattern in the printing process because I don't have lines on one side, and the spot that says how big it should be cuts off in mid word. I thought I had the printer set correctly, and the one inch square is the right size. If anyone here has made this and can help me figure it out, I'd really appreciate it!

Hi Tink...I didn't know you were in Daytona...LOL...anyway I had trouble with that pattern too. The part that is the bodice, isn't right. When you make it, the neckline is way too short, so when you put the pieces together and line up the underarm seams, the bodice is shorter than the sleeves on top. If this makes any sense. Cut the bodice part, longer on the area that goes near the neck and it should work. If this is your first time using that pattern, use junky fabric that you don't really love, or you might be sorry...I'm sorry that I couldn't explain it better. Sometime we should get together and sew...LOL

I have a question related to our favorite auction site. If you bid on something overseas, can you send them a money order. I asked the seller..and they haven't replied yet. In their listing, it says money order...but I'm not sure where to even buy an international money order...the post office, perhaps...hmm...confusing....

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if there was a pattern for a childs size 4/5 pair of elastic pull on pants on the internet here anywhere - i see the one under the link on the first page for size 18-25 mos - any others you know of?

THanks, wendy

PS - PJ pants went well, im in my warm ones right now!! flannel is only 2.99 at Joann's this week!!!

Where is everyone today?

I'll tell you where I was... I HIT THE JACKPOT!

I was at my local quilt shop and was getting frustrated that they had hardly ANY Disney fabric. Then I found the flat folds table     (It's at least a 4 banana). Look at what I found, all for $2.97 a yard! I'm so happy! I'm washing it up now and will be offering people choices from some of these and a few others I have for my 6x6 fabric swap groups! (THAT STILL HAVE ROOM FOR MORE!) I'll post a picture to that thread when I have everything together. I'm still waiting on a couple of fabrics I ordered online.

I'm lurking around today. I've been sewing a lot the last few days, I've been trying to finish up a few projects for other people and work on what I want for our trip in two weeks. (Dude, I so need to get on the sewing pile!)

I've gotten a couple of things done but have a pile of others to go. I just need to work around the house for a little while today.

I would try your bank. My FIL lives in Canada and always gets money orders from his bank to send the kids birthday money. They convert to US dollars for him too.

I have a Janome 644D and I don't really care for it. I think the biggest problem is that I was just used to the White I had. But it was getting older, and I have a Janome sewing machine which is fabulous, so I thought I'd convert. I really wish I hadn't. It doesn't care for anything too thick. It doesn't want to go unless I give the wheel a little spin. Do you have a local sewing machine store? You can go in and "test drive" one. I kind of wish I looked into a Baby Lock. They are supposed to be self threaders. I hate to thread a serger.

Hi Everyone,

Question - you know the blue Disney Christmas fabric with Mickey and the gang and a choo choo etc???? do you think thats boyish or girlish? I was going to make DN 3 a little pair of pants, but not sure cause minnie is on the fabric - thoughts????
Thanks, wendy

Well I have tried keeping up with this thread and I notice it eats up my sewing time, so now I am just going to join you all and simply post my latest sewing projects. Just so you all know, there have been amazing outfits and I feel a little silly putting my two on (which are completely cased from here). ;) But here goes....

Here is my DD2.5 in her Thanksgiving outfit...she calls it her "dobble dobble outfit". Despite this it actually does say "Gobble" on the leg. I am making matching bows after I finish some other projects.

Ok next is my attempt at a playful Christmas outfit to wear to school etc. It's a dress and matching pants. Once again...no bows yet but I still have to finish my DD4's.

Ok back to lurkdome and sewing....one more day till I go back to work. :rolleyes1

I tried a pair online, but they didn't fit well at all. I love Simplicity 3740 & 3743. They both are the It's So Easy patterns and are only about $3 at WM

Very cute! I like the purple/green Tgiving outfit, not your norm, but cute!

I've been working on my ToDo list for our trip today. I've made three pairs of ribbon socks, one pair of Christmas Princess jeans (can't wait to show these off, but have to wait for bodices to be returned from my aunt), one Minnie Mouse Tshirt, and tacking bows on AK Minnie shirts. Whew! Gotta go, more to be done!!!

It's hard to go by pictures. But I just love the ruffle butt. The twins overalls are size 2t and Megans is a 10 but that is another since my 54 in dd6 is so long in the torso i have to by 10/12 shirst because they don't make 9/10 and by 7/8 pants. So this means I had to by size 10 overalls and turn them into the right fit for her. She is not chubby at all just tall. But your tips have been a big help I washed the fabric this morning and i am going to hopefully start on them tomorrow. I am doing pant overalls since they are for december. But so far so good thanks for the help. I might need you again soon.:thumbsup2 :flower3:

Wow only 19 more days...you must be going crazy!!! Can't wait to see all of your cute outfits!

We've been cleaning, re-arranging and putting up Christmas decorations today!!! Yes, I'm aware that it is not even Thanksgiving yet, but here's my excuse - We'll be in Disney from the 8-17, then I'm off work the 18, work the 19 and 20, off the 21, then work the 22 and 23. SO, I have got to be completely ready for Christmas before we leave! ACK! It is going to be a crazy holiday season! :scared1:

We've been having fun today, though! The kids are so excited! Well, off to Tarjay for some replacement light bulbs and some clippies for the outside lights!

SoI go to walmart tonight to buy some plain black fabric to finish
Belle' Strip jumper shirt thingy... no black.. ahhhh but found 1/2 a yard pre-cut for .83.. that will do.

go to pay and it scans $47!!!!! lololo the cashier is like.. do you still want it..:lmao: not at $47 he kept adding it on taking it off.. had to void it..

finally he just throw it in the bag:thumbsup2

Oh has anyone ever ripped the outer seems out of a pair of jeans and put in fabric to add a few inches?

I just make Cassie patch jeans high school musical themed and didnt try them on first:mad: of course they are to tight on her thighs..

Ok - here it is! I LOVE how this turned out! I think I may have to make one for Emma too! I wanted to make bows in matching colors - but I didn't have the right shades - so these will do for pics!
