I was just looking on ebay for sheets that I could use for fabric and found this.

I remember having these sheets as a kid. I'm not sure what I would make with them but I think I must have them just in case.

These are great!
Here is a pic from last Halloween. DD was Stitch, although most people thought she was Eeyore.

She is soooo adorable, but I will admit I thought she was eeyore too:rolleyes1

SO CUTE!! I don't see how it could be cuter, even modeled. :)

Thank you!

That's funny: don't apologize for store bought ruffles! It reminds me of those old commercials "does she or doesn't she" hair color. Anyone remember? Or just me?

I swear you need to get that child into modeling! Is there local modeling in Arizona? She needs to be in magazines and catalogs, spreading the world with her cuteness!

Cute! I think maybe she needs the extra arms not to be confused with Eyeore.

I do remember that commercial! That's funny! I agree with you that she should model, very cute! My daughter thinks they would be great frineds! Love the sunglasses!

Our new WM does not carry fabric and I was told by the mgr. they were phasing it out and the new stores will not have it and soon the others won't either.:sad1: I like WM because I am usually there for groceries anyway now I will have to drive into town for a fabric shop.
mine does!! well for that case all the walmarts in my area do, i guess in a way we are spoiled! there are 3 within a 20 min distance all with fabric depts.. the way me and Utahmama buy fabric they would not think to shut it down:rotfl: no that is just terrible.

add a pic to a shameless post.. hehehehehe come on Lori!!
see like this!

For all those using a ruffler foot here is a little trick I've started doing. When you ruffler fabric that has been pieced together, such as in a patchwork twirl skirt, the seams seem to make the ruffler skip a little so it doesn't quite ruffle as well. After I ruffle the fabric with the foot, I go back and do 1 line of basting stitch, this way I can hand adjust the gathering where maybe the ruffler foot skipped due to all the seams. It has worked well for me and saved me some headach.

That is a really great idea, I had a heck of a time with my patchwork skirt for Halloween! I think this would have really helped.

Thank you everyone for your kind words. Ireland has been reading the posts, when she feels up to it. You all are so kind, and I'm sorry for all of you who've had similar things happpen.
On a lighter note, I have been working away this morning finishing my Grinch applique. Let me tell you, appliquing (spelling) felt onto a stretchy knit is no walk in the park. What a job!! Anywho, I still need to add the fur to the cuffs then I will post the pictures soon...
Kudos on all the new super outfits. I love the peter pan skirt, and little Stitch is just adorable.

Quoting myself - he he he. I bought it. One flat sheet of my childhood. I remember thinking when I was a kid that I really wanted to eat the apple Mickey is holding.

When anyone here finds a fabric they like, but don't really NEED for anything at the moment, but decides to buy it for 'someday', how much do you buy? DH thinks I'm nuts, but I figure if I dont get it when I see something I like, it may not be there later.

I would like to know the answer to this too. Apparently my DS thinks the answer to this is 3yds. We were out fabric hunting today(got a lot of good things too BTW!!!) and he would say 3yds please!:rotfl2: Actually I get 3yds because I have 3 kids so that makes sense right?!?! I figure I can make my DS5 a shirt or something for about a yard or a little more, can make my DS1 something for about a yard and then I can use the scraps in combo with some other fabrics for a stripwork skirt for my DD6.

Thanks for the welcome and the advice. Is it really hard to get started? What type of sewing machine do I need, accessories model # or styles?
TIA

I have a basic Singer machine, I have had mine for about 6 years though DH ordered it from Amazon a few Christmases (is that a word?) ago. A lot of ladies here have a Brother Machine.

I would recommend using patterns marked Easy. THere is a Simplicity pattern No. 4206 which has patterns for a twirl skirt, peasant top, capri pants, and shorts which is "Sewing for Dummies" I think it is super easy.

A lot of ladies recommend a Simplicity book with basics I don't remember the title though.

Browse through Joann's or Hancock if you have one. THere are pattern books on the tables and then you find the right pattern in the filing cabinets.

Pick out your fabrics and thread and see what you come up with!

That is funny. We had blue Bambi sheets when I was growing up. When my mom died I took them and now my kids use them on their beds. I'm starting to think I should keep them locked safely away for some future project!

Ok Now Im LMAO :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I buy to much. LOL. Well if its a bargain. Like the 49.5 yards of Halloween Fabric I got at Walmart for 50 cents a yard come on its only 50 cents.

But normally between 2 and 4 depends on how much I love it and price.

I finished my animal kingdom skirt. I will post a picture when I decide what to do with the shirt. And my epcot dress is waiting on buttons and for me to embroider the mickey head on.

I will try to post pictures in the next day or two. I dont want to download all the pictures. Hundreads of different stuff. So I will have to ask hubby were new memory card is.

My local TRU is taking them back if you bought them there.

That is where my DD got hers(she used her Bday money) Of course we DO NOT have the receipt now. I would like to think that a receipt is not necessaryn for this, but so many stores require them for returns now. Plus I think that she has used most of the dots. Do you have to have dots left to get a refund?

Tessa has been begging for aquadots since she saw the informercial. Luckily, I haven't bought her any (but I WAS going to get some for Christmas)! I'm sure Sawyer would have put them in his mouth, how scary!

I'm so sick of these recalls, too! How dare they sell us dangerous stuff for our kids!! We had to return some of the kid's favorite toys to JCPenney after they were recalled due to lead paint.

Maybe we should bring these production plants BACK to the USA where we can keep a better eye on things and make sure that the toys are produced to our standards!!! I am sure most american families would rather pay a little more for things than have things that could injure or even kill our children!!! Sorry I needed to rant a little bit on this. My DD wanted these FOREVER and she used her own money to buy them and was so proud of herself and now she is just heartbroken that we have to git rid of it! AGGHHH

I agree with you on this. Not only could we keep a better eye on production standards but we could actually give more Americans more jobs rather than outsourcing everything. I can't tell you how much it annoys me when I call a customer service line (for an American company) with a question and I am connected to someone in India.

I second the recommendation to get the ruffler foot. I think I paid $30 for mine.

More questions about gathering foot and the ruffler foot...wish I had waited for the response before I headed out to the store...I picked up the gathering foot and the low-shank attachment (which I didn't realize I already have)..so I will be back to return that tomorrow morning and I am thinking that I will return it and get the ruffler foot instead unless you ladies suggest that I keep the gathering foot as well.

Anyway, I tried out the gathering foot and followed whatever little bit of instructions came with the foot..it says put the fabric to be gathered under the sole of the presser foot, and the fabric that you do not want to gather in the slit...I did exactly that with couple test fabric...the fabric that I wanted to gather about three times the length of the fabric that I didn't want to gather...but there were so much fabric left. I am thinking that I should have changed the stitch length? but how would I know what to set it to so it will match exactly with the fabric that I want to attach the gathers to?

Sorry for all the questions...

Thanks!

It will be called Hollywood Studios (I think) starting next year

HMM, I don't think that I really like that...maybe for DL but since it is in FL...I guess it will take some getting used to. Thanks for the update. I have been stuck on the boutique thread lately and haven't left to wander the rest of the DIS.

I've not completely mastered the gathering and attaching at the same time technique. I gather first, and then pin to whatever it is going to be attached to and stitch. You will need to play with your machine to figure out what is going to work best for you. I have my ruffler set to pleat every single stitch, with a pleat depth of 3 and on my machine a stitch length of 5. This gives me a gather ratio of almost exactly 2:1 - meaning I start with twice the length of fabric that will gather down to the length that I am attaching to. If I prefer a gather ratio of 3:1, I change my machine stitch length to 3.5. Every machine may have a different result.
