Those of you that have your children in dance classes - are you allowed to stay in the class and watch, or are no parents allowed into the classroom? I just took my DD to her first class and was a little surprised to be told that parents don't stay in the classroom. Is this standard for dance classes?

This is my girls second year in dance. We are at a new studio this year and it is MUCH more organized and disciplined than where we were last year. We could not go in last year, but there was a small window you could look in. They came out to change their tap shoes and of course, there was always a parade to the bathroom. This year, they bring their taps in with them and the bathroom is actually on the other side of the studio, so there is no need to come out at all. There is a window, but there are blinds on it that are always closed. Sometimes, there is a tiny crack inthem and you can see a few feet, but no one goes in. The head teacher has been teaching for 35+ years and is a former Rockette. She is my former teacher. There is absolutely no funny business allowed.

Here's a picture from last year. I HATED their costumes, especially when I saw the adorable Cinderella, Belle, and Dorothy from Wizard of Oz that other girls had. They did have to have their hair up in a bun and they had to wear makeup, which they adored. Sorry, I have no idea how to resize this ridiculously large picture.

Ok, here are the girls' outfits. The pics are horrible, but I will have Greg's camera in the parks so those pics will be much better!!!! I'm ready to start packing!

These are my favorite and...
YOU ARE MY IDOL!

I'm off to start packing and getting some more of that laundry done so it stops taunting me.
TNMom, I'll be looking for you!

Ah, you've got plenty of time!!! Holler at me if you see me!

Great outfits! This one's my favorite (along with that Donald Duck):

Thanks everyone, for your comments. This trip is hopefully going to be very special. Despite our budget problems and still no fridge (but that's another story), they are going to look good even if we have to eat pb&j every night!!! And I'll be d@^^ed if I'm gonna cancel BBB or CRT. Cause, who knows when we'll ever get back! I'm just a little down right now, but we leave in about 48 hours so, :dance3: :dance3: I think I'll get over it!

it is very standard. they feel that the parents do not help in the kids attention. I thought that too when I first took my daughter, could not understand. But it is just the way it is. Our studio does allow a one time class watching for all parents to oh and ah at there progress!
Lori

I wondered about this too. One the one hand I can understand the teachers wanting the kids "full" attention, on the other hand I don't think I would take it well if some stranger told me I HAD to leave the room.

What about the makeup for recitals? Do you HAVE to makeup your child?

Cindee

yes makeup is a must. Just imagine them on stage with those bright lights washing there little faces out. When you get the video or pictures at home, you'll be glad there little faces have a little color to them. But there is not cake makeup on, it is usually eye shadow, blush and lip stick

Nope, no parents in the class. We wait in a waiting room but there is a window so we can see in the room and watch. I try and stay out of the way b/c if my dd sees me she gets busy waving and smiling at me and not focusing on class.

ETA - they did ask us to put make up on them for the recital. No one was checking to see if we did or did not. My dd loved it!!! The bright lights really do wash their faces out.

I just got home from the fabric store- (got my swap material) and I saw this big sausage like bag stuffed with fabric and it had 399 written on it. I asked the cashier is it $3.99 and she said yes- I'll take it!! I was really excited at having found such a deal. Here are a couple pics- my dh thinks I am a little nutso for being SO excited but WOW there was ALOT of stuff in there from 3 inch strips to almost full yard pieces!!!!

There was over 50 pieces in there!!! :woohoo:    :yay: :yay: :yay: FOR $3.99, even if I use it for practicing I don't care- I'm feeling like I hit the mother load of fabric deals!!!!

WOW! What a great deal! I'd be excited, too. I've never heard of a sausage bag full of fabric for $3.99. What fabric store was this?

OK, just for fun, here is my dd's recital costume from last year. The umbrella was their prop. Pretty big for 2.5 to 5 year olds!

We get there Thursday 11/29 and we'll be there through Sunday 12/9. We also have tickets for the 12/4 MVMCP. Might see you there, I'm the one with the very active three year old and three adults with British accents. :) My inlaws are meeting us.

Can't wait to get there. I just have to pack still. Nothing like waiting until the last possible minute.

I'll post custom pictures in the morning. I have to find my camera and my husband doesn't know where he left the other camera. I hope we find it before we leave, it's got my DD's ballet class pictures on it.

We're staying at All Star Movies.

That is what I was afraid of. I have a real problem with makeup on my DD(I just don't like it, neither does she), my DD has such sensitive skin and allergies. It looks like dance is not something we can do. Maybe we will try soccer :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Well Ms. NO H Teresa puts two F's in my name EVERY time so we're even.;)

Way behind, but I had to jump in here! I try very hard to remember that there is only one F in your name, and I think that if you look back through my recent posts, you will notice that I usually spell it correctly! ;)

Carefull, I will just start caling you Tif!

I am so exhausted ! it was a long night Mayson's fever has broke:banana: now we are just laying in bed watching the AristoCats on disney channel, and i am praying he takes a nap because i need one bad...:cloud9: :cloud9:
No sewing for me only sleep
Have a great day all:goodvibes

I hope you got some sleep. I'm glad that Mayson is feeling better.

Three weeks till our vacation and I finally finished all our outfits. Most are pretty basic compared to things others make, but it's the style my family likes.

Here are a few:

The hand painted (not by me) shirts for our Ohana's breakfast:

Another day when they are in better moods :rotfl2: I'll get pictures of the rest of the outfits to post.

Now off to make the pajamas I promised for Xmas!!

These outfits are SOOO adorable!!! Your kids are just darling! I didn't notice the snotty look on your daughter's face either!

Oh WOW!!! These are FANTASTIC!!!! Your daughter looks so BEAUTIFUL!!!

I just love the tangents we go off on! Since I have no current dancers in the family, I will post a photo of DD10 when she was probably 6 in her recital costume. They danced to "Celebrate" or whatever that song is called.

P1000254.jpg

The weird thing is, she still wears it sometimes when she plays dress up!

Remember how Heaher said that neither of us like to be wrong? This ought to convince you how true that is. :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

I felt the need to prove my innocence in the Tifani spelling scandal. Here are some of my latests quotes of me referencing Tifani (t-beri):
Oh Tifani, you are SOOOOOO pretty!!! I love these pictures!!

Happy Anniversary Tifani!!! How many years????

I had to go back almost two months to find a quote wher I had used two f's October 4, to be exact.

Ok, back to your reguarly scheduled postings!

I don't check the thread for 2 days (busy making money on expotv.com) and I can get caught up in less than an hour? What's wrong with you people?!
That's what I've been up to as well!
Yup, you did. I was playing with it today! I love how you stitched "I spy with my little eye" all around it.
Did you find the pizza?

Touche! However, your username is not tifaniberi!
See above posts.

Yes, I missed you! I feel for you having to sleep in the same bed as a kid. Ugh! However, perhaps it was the thought of something else keeping you awake....:fish:
That has sent me into a serious fit of the giggles!!!!

Fortheluvofpooh, this one's for you:

Clutterbug, you were SOOO close, with 99 posts. I just can't seem to break into the top ten, myself. I've gotta stop with the obnoxiously long, no one reads them anyway, multiquotes!! :rotfl:
OOH, so close to 1000!!!
I have NO life!

Wow I absolutely love the new customs too  It looks so loverly! Here was my DD4's costume from their recital in May:

There in the background are my DD9 and DD2.5 and sitting in front is a former dance studio kid who has gone to Disney to dance in High School Musical. He flew in for the recital.....

Thats about as close as I come to knowing a Disney CM :rotfl:
That outfit is adorable!!!

My neice was a CM a Tower of Terror several years ago. I was so excited when she told me!! She didn't stay in Florida long though, so we never actually got to see her working there.b :(

Stop... panic time...:scared1:

Well for me anyway, we leave around 4 am on Thursday morning and I'm still sewing... :sad2: I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever get done. I'm still doing laundry too.
Now I'm really going back to my machine and getting to work with Pepsi in hand...:hourglass Clock is ticking... Only Two Days, 8 hours and 56 minutes left until our plane takes off.

Have fun!!! Make sure to post lots and lots of pictures!

This is what I have been working on. There is a mother/son dance at the school Friday and the theme is 50s so I had to make a poodle skirt. Actually, it is a dachshund skirt. The pattern came with instructions for a pettiskirt: should I try it? It seems a little too flat and needs to be fluffed up. I am askeered though, the pattern did say easy, so how hard could it be (har har). I guess I'm taking a trip to JoAnn's tomorrow to get pettiskirt material.

I hope you all notice my JoJo pose! Jacob insisted I stand this way when he took the picture!

th_100_2002.jpg

There is no picture of me twirling: I didn't want to scare you too much!
CUTE!! I am jealous about the Mother Son dance though!!! We never had one when Corey was little. :(

I love this skirt! Funny though, as I was scrolling down I though, "She better post a twirl picture!" Love the JoJO pose and the fact that Jacob told you to do it!!! I like that boy!

That is absolutely STUNNING!
Ohhhhh, I forgot to mention that I talked to the Mom whose daughter I made the turkey outfit for that M is wearing in my sig and she told me Thanksgiving was cancelled because her husband caught a stomach virus. Selfish me could only think of "she didn't even get to wear the outfit?" When I dropped off the outfit she was sick with the bug so I gave it to her husband. She never mentioned it or thanked me for it. Do you think I should casually bring it up? Or should I stop thinking about myself and just wait for her to say something?

UH! What???!!!?? :scared1: I hope you have added a post that says that she came over to apologize and thank you! (I'm a bit behind!) I can't belive she didn't say something right away! That outfit was gorgeous!

I have some pictures of my princess in the outfit I made.

I also appliqued a t-shirt, and made a pair of red corduroy pants for her, with a little applique on them.

The two put together:

Alright I see what's happening teresajoyce!! trying to get to that 1000 mark- j/k. I hate when I get behind and want to multiquote everything but not forget what I want to say about stuff. I usually just give up and make generalizations about things- So I commend you for trying to keep up with everyone- I guess that's why your the queen of posts :worship: :worship:

I wanted to add that the "fabric sausage" was from hancocks and say that is was also my first time in Hancocks- I will be returning- :) But they had NO princess fabric!!!! Guess I'll be making a trip to walmart or Joanns- Poor me.......
