Oh, you should do it! It really wasn't hard at all! I used a rolled hem foot, which made the hemming really easy too!

Thanks! I was kind of proud of those sleeves myself!! :)

Okay, I've heard a couple of you mention the rolled hem foot and I know I have one but I have no idea what to do with it. I need a remedial home ec class but in the meen time, would someone explain what this is and how to use it. Thanks! You guys are great teachers.

By the way, I bought a clear embroidery/applique foot today. Let's hope I can figure out how to get it on the machine!

1st 24 hours in USA, at 13 mo he could only commando crawl. He had eczema on his body as well as staph infection and scabies, severe asthma and GERD. See the hole in the bottom of his right foot? It bled and bled. That's why DD called me from Russia on a cell to the USA...amazing technology...and I called the International Adoption Doctor who wanted to see him as soon as he landed...well, the next day at least!

100_0428.jpg

Blurry photo, but you can see the hole in his head that looked like cancer.. in the airport when DD lifted his hat and I saw it, I lost my breath! I couldn't believe what I saw...it was an infection, deep hole with staph...he was very curious with all of his toys and wanted to see how each one worked.

100_0383.jpg

He had scabies and he just scratched and scratched and then we all got scabies and we scratched and scratched!...we are on our way out the first day in the USA to see the Russian International adoption doctor for a thorough physical exam...his wheezing was so terrible you could hear it in the next room. It took 3 of us to hold a nebulizer mask on him and he fought for 15 minutes straight...after about 4 treatments, he finally got the idea that we weren't going to hurt him.

100_0438.jpg

He loves his new Daddy, and Daddy adores him...and as sick as he is, he is smiling...all the time...

After 4 weeks in the USA with nutrition and medications. He loves swimming and taking a bath...he never had a bath before! With his loving Mommy

Here he is today, on his 3rd birthday...a happy little boy with a wonderful life and a wonderful future...our all American surfer boy...how I love this child, and I thank God for him and the mother who gave birth to him so that he could make my daughter's and son in law's lives complete....
Susan

Sorry, I am done now...I won't hog up space with my emotional stories...can't help myself...I just love people and kids, and seeing all of you and your little lovies just melts my heart...I had always wanted to be a grandma and it was heartbreaking to me knowing that my DD would never have the joy of carrying a child, but she has the joy of our Nicholas, the joy of providing a life to a child who so deserved this life in America with love and comfort and security...:grouphug:

WOW!!! Thanks for sharing!!! What a blessing I'm sure he is to you and your whole family! We will soon have a precious baby boy joining our family through international adoption and your story makes me so happy and shows what a wonderful thing international adoption is! Love, Pixie Dust and God's Grace to all of you!

Hello everyone. I just wanted to check in and let you know everything is going well here. DH is home and baby is doing wonderful. I'm off all restrictions and should be in the clear with this little one. I've spent the last few days resting, hanging out with my family, etc. The internet when down for a while so I have some catching up to do!

You guys are making some lovely creations! Keep it up!!!!!!!

I'm so glad you and the baby are doing well! I sent off the swim diapers this week, I hope you get them soon. I was going to put in a note with them, but I am scatterbrained and closed it before I remembered!

Here's Drew in her Halloween outfit. She wore it to school today and to tell you the truth I was a little shocked that she wanted to. She gets a little shy when people comment on her a lot and I thought that she would think this was a little "loud" and worry that maybe she'd get too much attention. She seemed o.k. with it when the lady at the car drop off lane made over her though!

th_Halloween_on_Drew.jpg

That outfit looks even cuter on the non-favorite kid! I love the tights!

Thanks! And thanks to everyone for the compliments!

I know we're not supposed to apologize for our dd's hair so this is not an apology (because I am a rule follower!) , but I really wish Drew would let me do something cute with her hair. She says that Kindergarteners are supposed to wear ponytails and that is all she will do now!!!! She used to let me put it up in "messy buns" and it was soooooo cute, but now she says that people will laugh at her. I'm lucky if I can get my 10 year old to even brush hers so I guess that the hair thing is going to have to be one of those "pick your battle" things at my house and I guess since it's on their head I'll have to give in. I hate giving in. I would really rather get my own way. I wonder where my kids get it??????:confused3

I can't get anything but ponytail elastics in my kindergartener's hair either. Someone told me that having their hair up in a ponytail prevents the lice from hanging on, so I have stopped worrying about putting little ribbons in her hair. Also, scrunchies are much easier to make than those stupid bows (no offense, Heather!).

:headache:

So, I am working on Riley's Halloween jeans and I really wish I could burn them!!! I hate doing decoupage. HATE HATE HATE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not a "random" gal. I really prefere measurements and patterns and formulas. This is driving me crazy and I can't even just put it up for a while because it's already practically the middle of October!

Wow, I am just quoting you like crazy tonight! I feel the exact same way! I have been wanting to try the decoupage jeans but I know I will have the same frustration of wanting measurements and directions and that's why I mostly stick with patterns.

Dead nature is not good, although I think I might be more upset if the nature was still alive in my house too! Thankfully Oscar is not that quick and mostly blind so I don't have to worry about it. He's also a chicken too

We had a beagle for many years and she never brought us nature, dead or otherwise. I think she was a big chicken too, but I wouldn't have had her any other way!

Wow, what a great story! I work at my DDs school on the preschool side and we have a family that has adopted 4 different kids from Russia. The first 2 boys have been here for about 2 years now, and are now in Kindergarten and 2nd grade. They didn't know any English when they came here, but they are intregating GREAT into our school. Then, the mom just came back at the end of August with 2 more kids, an older girl who is in the 4th grade, and a little boy who is 3.

The youngest one, who is 3, just started in the preschool and the wonder in his eyes when he plays with toys, or when he learns a new word is just amazing. He is SO loving, and I'm so glad to be a part of the wonder that is his new world here in the US.

Finally, I am in a whole world of trouble because I booked our trip during Hannukah. My jewish MIL is not too happy that we are celebrating Hannukah at MVMCP. My DH thinks it is hilarious. (He is jewish three days a year.) I thought it would be nice to surprise her with special Hannukah customs for the girls. I showed DH the fabric and said over his dead body!!!!

christmas007.jpg

OOOHHHH!!! I bought the santa face too! I loved it. I thought it was very retro looking. I actually bought a small red with white dots and the black swirl that is just like the red you show above that. The red was kinda hard to match because it was a little on the orange side. I can't wait to make it! I have big ideas......................

Hi ladies, I haven't read in a while, but am going to get started again soon. We just booked our trip for Jan/Feb. So, I'm going to get started on outfits soon.

I know this is just totally a dream, but does anyone know if you can find the fabric with the faces that everyone uses for Epcot outfits (I can't remember the name) anywhere. Or anyone know what the name is so I can start stalking ebay? I really want some!!! I'd love to use it to make dd an outfit and maybe shorts for ds? TIA!!!!

I love looking at all the things you guys make. I bought 2 custom outfits for my girls for our trip and they didn't arrive in time. Now I have 2 minnie outfits that I can't use.:sad1:

This is really cute. I love that pumpkin fabric.
Adorable!!!!

[Well, there you go, way too many pictures!
Wow!!! I am just amazed at the spiral twirl skirt....it looks so hard to do. I do have the YCMT pattern....tell me...was it hard??? You did such a wonderful job and I love the whole thing!!!!
As much as I enjoy basking in your, that was my wonderful sister who posted those patterns! But, we think so much alike, we're practically the same person!
Whoopsss, sorry about that....Thanks Teresa!!!!! I love you too!!!

Well, let's see, I want to answer the questions posed, no I didn't go along. DD and DSIL took lots of video. And DD called me on a cell phone daily. It was a long and exhausting trip - you go twice to Russia. First to meet the child and then you are invited back to adopt your child or children. God bless all you mothers and grandmothers and all of the adopted and waiting to be adopted children
Susan
Susan thank you so much for sharing your adoption story...very touching. :goodvibes

:sad2: We are a "not keeping up with the Jones'" type family...sorry to hear that you friend is a little off course. :guilty: Perhaps if your close enough to her you can try to influence her away from finding her identity in possesions??? I dont know just thinking out loud....:upsidedow

I know exactly what to do with the rolled hem foot. Listen carefully... wrap the foot in bubble wrap, insert into envelope, address to TnMom25 and drop in mailbox! See how simple that is! :rotfl: And you thought it would be complicated!!!!

but she has the joy of our Nicholas, the joy of providing a life to a child who so deserved this life in America with love and comfort and security...:grouphug:

Let me say this story broke my heart. I grabbed my hubby and showed him your nicholas. My nicholas has been sick since he was born. little things here and there, he was born with a genetic problem that makes his immune system low. so when people are sick I just get him out of there fast! Well I always told my hunny that if the 3rd was not a boy we would adopt from russia. I have an anastasia, josephine and nicholas now! We Love the 3 so much but I always feel a special place in my heart for those russian children. what they go through and the amount of babies needing a home is huge. I wish it was an easier and more affordable route to take. I am so happy you have him in your lives and I am happy you are in his. for your daughter to walk out of that orfanage and leaving those other children must have broke her heart. Thank you for telling your story. It humbles me and makes me love and cherish my children more. I think I am going to make my special pancakes in the morning. they love those! The Special is a smiley face made of Choc. Chips!!!

Lori
p.s. my spelling is bad when I type super fast... sorry

So glad to hear that DH is safe and home and that you're doing well. Yeah no more restrictions! Keep us posted on how you are doing and try to take it easy!

Well, let's see, I want to answer the questions posed, no I didn't go along. DD and DSIL took lots of video. And DD called me on a cell phone daily. It was a long and exhausting trip - you go twice to Russia. First to meet the child and then you are invited back to adopt your child or children. A 50 year old couple was on the same trip and adopted 2 school age sisters. It is amazing what love will do for children.
It is so expensive to ship anything to Russia, and you never know if it is going to get to one of the orphanages. DD took as much as she could with her in donations, and $700 in cash - she bought 3 strollers there and shopping carts full of medications that were requested by the orphanage doctor. I could go on forever, but I will just hit the highlights.
The first referral was they received was for a 7 month old baby boy who weighed 7 pounds...and it was heart wrenching because the adoption agency sent photos of the child. The international adoption doctor told DD she needed to think with her head and not her heart as there are thousands and thousands of adoptable children in much better health. It took months and then Alexi's photo came and his medical records...and they decided to take a leap of faith and went to Russia to meet him...after a long jouney...they got to the orphanage in this coal town that looks like it is from the depression here in the USA and were told Alexi wasn't there - he was in the hospital...after discussion, they were taken to the hospital and Alexi was in a bed rubbing his face on a bare mattress, crying and crying..no diapers, no medications, and he had pneumonia. They were permitted to take him back to the orphanage and DD and SIL bought him medication at a pharmacy. He had terrible asthma...he was 10 months then. They had chosen the name Nicholas prior to ever getting a referral...and used Alexi's name as his middle name. His other two names were long Russian surnames. Yes, a new life, a baby and new name. Had he been older and really knew his name, they wouldn't have changed it. They had no idea that it would take so long to get him...he ws 7 months when they got his referral which is Russian law and then it took until he was 13 months to bring him home. DD said that as far as you could see there was a sea of little toddler boys, all just as cute as can be, blue eyes, brown eyes, blonde, brunette, and they all knew Mama and Papa and would cling to them. In the visitation room, only the potential parents and adoptees were permitted. DD was invited to visit Alexi's bedroom which is considered an honor. DSIL was not permitted. Babies are potty trained when they are infants. At meals they are not permitted to touch the food, and if they do or they spill something, they go hungry. Our video shows Alexi crying hysterically when his food was all gone...like he lost his mama and dada....it was heart-breaking. When he had a bm they held him under a faucet and ran water over him...no soap....and just changed his clothes. He was wearing pink and yellow pajamas. The workers obviously love the children, but there is only one for every 10...of even less. There are toys that are donated, but they do not appear to be played with. The Russian people are very proud and very different from our culture. When SIL started to cry, he was hushed immediately...it is very insulting to appear that you feel pity of believe that the children are in some way suffering. The most difficult was that a young teen was Alexi's God mother and she came to say good by and cried and cried...in Russian she told them that the last baby who left, the adoptive parents promised to send photos and never did...DD and SIL wanted to adopt her also, but they were only approved for an infant...you must be approved for certain ages...but they have corresponded and have sent things to her via other parents travelling to Russia...and she sent a photo of Nicholas Alexi's baptism..which was so special. Nicholas was a very sick child. He is doing very well now. He received a year of speech and occupational therapy...my DD is an occupational therapist and she is just amazing with him. He is an angel. I wrote to the adoption agency and told them that he will never get from us the joy he has given to us.. we are the blessed ones to have this God given angel in our lives...it has been a huge financial burden, but God knew that Nicholas was to be in our lives. He knows all about Russia and he will tell you he is from Russia...I recently purchased a book written and signed by Barishnikov about a little boy and his grandma...it was perfect. DD was a classical ballet dancer with NYC ballet in school years ago and had the opportunity to take class with Barishnikov. We want Nicholas to know and appreciate his Russian heritage and the sacrifice his mother made so that he would have a good life.
So now they are saving for a baby girl and perhaps a boy too...Nicholas wants a brother, DD wants a girl...whatever happens, it is in God's hands and I know that He has a plan for us....
God bless all you mothers and grandmothers and all of the adopted and waiting to be adopted children....
Susan

PS I donate money every payday through our united way to the adoption agency that DD used as they give 85% of my donation directly to the orphanages....it isn't much, but every penny helps.

Susan,
I loved reading your story. It is amazing how these wonderful children come into our lives. We have three biological sons and we love them to pieces. My heart is melted daily by my daughter from China. Sometimes I don't even notice that she's Chinese or that she hasn't been here from birth because it's so natural. Other times, though, I look at her and am in total awe of the miracle she is. That we could be so lucky to be her parents amazes me daily. October 29th we will celebrate our 1 year anniversary with Gracie and right now her birth parents are on my mind a lot. I wish there was some way to let them know what a gift she is, how much we love her and how amazing she is.

Giving birth to my sons was amazing but to be able to experience the miracle of adoption as well has been a tremendous gift.

Wow its been along time since I have read this thread. but gee golly gee! I was in heaven for most of the night.

:rotfl: Thank you for answering my questions!!! You all are great! I am anxious to go shopping now for fabric. haha! I am looking through the posts, and my daughter is saying, "I want that one, and that one, and oh mommy, that one, and.........." :rotfl:

Well, maybe a skirt for now and a t-shirt! haha. Wish me luck!

My daughter says the same thing! I wish we had more fabric around here. its so hard to find cute cute cute fabric!
