I love looking at all the things you guys make. I bought 2 custom outfits for my girls for our trip and they didn't arrive in time. Now I have 2 minnie outfits that I can't use.:sad1:

You should sell them back on Ebay: I have seen the resells go for as much as the originals!

Your coverall outfits for the girls look fun! Where does everyone get their appliques of the princesses and other characters to place onto their projects?

NCTWINSMOM Your coverall outfits for the girls look fun! Where does everyone get their appliques of the princesses and other characters to place onto their projects?

The princesses are pillow panels from Walmart, you buy them off the bolt just like fabric. I think you get two panels for 1/2 yard! Not too bad!

I am working on appliques, but haven't figured it out yet.:confused3 Any tips?

There is a free download for appliques on You Can Make This . com
You just have to sign up to get there email newsletter(which is free too) and then you can download 6 or 8(don't remember) FREE downloads. I just glanced through it but it seems like it is a good one with great step by step directions. I just haven't had the time or nerve to try yet! Good Luck!

This is very cute. I love it.
I love those fabrics together. Never too many pictures. Is that a You can make this pattern? How do those work? Do you print them out at home? Do you end up having to tape pieces together? DO you have to enlarge them yourself? HMM sorry to ask so many questions. It turned out really cute. I have to find some of that glow in the dark rick rack.
Yep, this is the YCMT pattern. It was truly very easy to do! It goes together so nicely! When cutting it out, I cut out squares of fabric first, and then stacked them up and cut about 5 pieces out at a time. It is a bit time consuming and monotonous to keep sewing the same thing over and over, but it wasn't hard.

I also wanted to mention that I added a yoke to the top of the pattern. The YCMT pattern didn't have that. I just didn't have enough of the blue sparkles to make it as full as I wanted, so I made it with a shorter spiral and then added the yoke so it wouldn't be too short.

HOW did these people find my husband?! He used to stand up on the balcony at our local Meijer store when he was a teenager and yell to my mom "Barbara, Barbara, don't leave me. I love you." He still likes to embarass me with any cylindrical shaped vegetable in the produce department.
See guys??? I TOLD you it sounded like my brother in law!

As much as I enjoy basking in your , that was my wonderful sister who posted those patterns! But, we think so much alike, we're practically the same person! :cutie:
I am called Heather so much in real life (even by people who don't even really know HEATHER but see me several times a week1 :confused3 ) that I don't correct people much anymore, and just take any compliment thrown her way for myself too! :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: Like she said, we think so much alike we really are practically the same person!

That's my fabric!!! I am working on a Cinderella themed outfit with that pumpkin fabric. I absolutely love what you've done with it! Hopefully I'll get mine done one of these days.
NO that's MY fabric!

I think it's time for a new rule NO APOLOGIZING FOR YOUR CHILD'S HAIR!!
I have yet to see a child on here that is anything other than stunningly beautiful, whether their hair is disheveled, wet, or downright ratty! So, just go ahead and say "Look at my absolutely gorgeous child in their fabulous creation".
I couldn't agree more, and was wondering when you would make this a rule!!! ;)

Really guys, we don't care if you kid has messy hair! They are ALL beautiful!!!!
I am SUCH a sap! I'm getting teary looking at the pictures of my beautiful nieces. I just love them so much! You did such a wonderful job on this outfit. I absolutely love the glow in the dark ric-rac and the spiral sleeves! I also love how well-pressed it looks! ;)

Awwww, you are the bestest sister and bestest Aunt in the whole entire world!!! (Besides me that is)

Yah, I knew you guys would miss me.

TJ- NO, that would be cool, but the jumper was LILY'S. Still, I'm totally down w/ repurposing stuff.
Well, you see I was all teary eyed seeing you posting again that I couldn't see straight to read your post carefully enough!! I told my husband how excited I was that you were back, and he just looked at me like he was a little worried! (right now he just told me that he is going to leave the house because I'm "clicking too much"!)[/quote]

Teresajoys little baby sister Heathersue said:
Teresa, I remember you printing out a pattern for some little pants or something for kids in Russian orphanages once. Do you remember what I'm talking about? They were like footed overalls that tie on the shoulders.
They stopped doing that right after I was all set to start!
Did someone say Mackinaw Island FUDGE? :woohoo: You know the only thing better than Mackinaw Island fudge is Frankenmuth Fudge! (And Frankenmuth is easier to get to :))

Cindee
Hey, if you were there, I'd go over to Frankenmuth!
God bless all you mothers and grandmothers and all of the adopted and waiting to be adopted children
PS I donate money every payday through our united way to the adoption agency that DD used as they give 85% of my donation directly to the orphanages....it isn't much, but every penny helps.
Susan, thank you thank you thank you for sharing this story!

I also have a sewing related question. How do you keep the bobbin thread from unraveling off the bobbin when you are storing them? My "bobbin bin" is a mess of tangled thread and it's driving me nuts. Any tips?

When Tracy (our cousin) gave me Aunt Marilyn's sewing machinge (to borrow) all of her bobbins had a tiny little rubberband on them. Like the kind you would use in Tessa's hair. They really stayed nice and neat that way. Although the rubberbands were a little hard to take off. I think that's becasue it hadn't been used in so long though.

Hello everyone. I just wanted to check in and let you know everything is going well here. DH is home and baby is doing wonderful. I'm off all restrictions and should be in the clear with this little one. I've spent the last few days resting, hanging out with my family, etc. The internet when down for a while so I have some catching up to do!

You guys are making some lovely creations! Keep it up!!!!!!!
I can't tell you how many prayers I have said for you and your little one! I am so happy to hear that everything is ok! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :grouphug:
I got it at Wal-mart:thumbsup2 Hope it's ok to say the store name, not sure.
Yep, you can say store names! Just don't like to any Ebay auctions or give "hints" to find any Ebay auctions. :)

Thanks everyone! I have checked out the first page and the links too. I tried cutting some mickey heads out of extra fabric last nite and attaching to heating bond. I then stitched around the edges. Lets just say it did not turn out pretty. Am I going about this the right way? I didn't print and go directly by the links. Maybe I should try that.

I have never appliqued, but I know everyone has said to make sure you are using the heat and bond lite. Make sure you show us what you did, we like to see pictures!

Ask and you shall receive. I put it under "crafts" and under "sewing". There's some cool free stuff on there. Thanks for the Christmas gift ideas!

My sister and her husband are installing a new patio door on their house today. I hope she doesn't mind me saying this, but they're not real handy. :rolleyes1 She needs our good thoughts today!!

Actually, Brian ended having to go into work yesterday. Someone's friend was in a car accident and they had to go to the funeral. :sad1: So, we didn't get the window in. However, we did get the window put into his van. (Remember someone broke into it the other week). So, we did get something done.

I doubt we will try the patio door today, since it is cold, windy and raining.

Yeah, we aren't real handy, so I was hoping he would call one of his brothers or someone to come over and help him.

Hi everyone,

I don't know if any of you remember me, but I used to post here fairly regularly before summer. With the girls home, though, it just got too hard for me to keep up. Then, I had a slight ToonTown addiction that kept me off the boards for a couple of weeks too. Anyway, I would come on as often as I could and just scan the board looking at the pictures. Ya'll have been doing some really good work. Props to everyone. I know I won't ever catch up, and I haven't been sewing a whole lot (except for some pirate outfits I made for our cruise). I hope to get started again soon though.

Anyway, t-beri, you are the reason I am coming out of lurkdom. My girls enjoy pin trading and looking for hidden Mickeys, too. If you have the pins and the book, those activities don't cost anything either. I don't know if you have pins or the hidden Mickey book; but if not, I'd like to send you some. I don't have a lot of pins; but if you send me your address, I will get a couple in the mail to you. I also have the hidden mickey book. It has a section on HMs at the resorts. Anyway, if you are interested, PM me your address, okay. I can still get it in the mail to you before you leave.

Of course we remember you!!!!!! Glad to see you posting again! And, wow, how generous you are!!!! I would add some smilies here, but I'm sure I'm over the image limit for this post, so just know there would be several dancing bananas her and big hug smiley!
Too cute to make small! Fabulous skirt!
Awww, Thank you!!!!
Okay, I've heard a couple of you mention the rolled hem foot and I know I have one but I have no idea what to do with it. I need a remedial home ec class but in the meen time, would someone explain what this is and how to use it. Thanks! You guys are great teachers.

By the way, I bought a clear embroidery/applique foot today. Let's hope I can figure out how to get it on the machine!
Here is a great video demo of the rolled hem foot (not to be confused with the roller foot!) http://www.sewingmachine-sales.co.uk/sewing_machine_info/video/60/rolled-hem-foot.html

I had always wanted to be a grandma and it was heartbreaking to me knowing that my DD would never have the joy of carrying a child, but she has the joy of our Nicholas, the joy of providing a life to a child who so deserved this life in America with love and comfort and security...:grouphug:
Wow, thanks for the pictures!
So I've been working on some outfits for my girls to wear to Disney...so what do you think?

th_DSCF1598.jpg
I love them!!! Your daughters are cuties!!!
Hi ladies, I haven't read in a while, but am going to get started again soon. We just booked our trip for Jan/Feb. So, I'm going to get started on outfits soon.

I know this is just totally a dream, but does anyone know if you can find the fabric with the faces that everyone uses for Epcot outfits (I can't remember the name) anywhere. Or anyone know what the name is so I can start stalking ebay? I really want some!!! I'd love to use it to make dd an outfit and maybe shorts for ds? TIA!!!!

I think Deann allready answered you (Hancock's), but just wanted to say it was nice to see you here!

I wish there was some way to let them know what a gift she is, how much we love her and how amazing she is.

Giving birth to my sons was amazing but to be able to experience the miracle of adoption as well has been a tremendous gift.

Hi Angel!!!! Great to see you here too!!!
I bet Gracie's birthparents know.

this is an outfit I made for my daughter.

Aww, that is cute!!!!

Looking at this I had a revelation!!!! In addition to making the bodices with elastic instead of buttons/buttonholes... I can also use ribbons and have them tie!!! Thanks for the inspiration!

Cute outfit by the way!

Here he is today, on his 3rd birthday...a happy little boy with a wonderful life and a wonderful future...our all American surfer boy...how I love this child, and I thank God for him and the mother who gave birth to him so that he could make my daughter's and son in law's lives complete....

I am so glad you shared his story with us. My dh has been talking about adopting a little boy. Maybe we should go past talking.

Yesterday I took pictures of how I did the spiral sleeves for Lydia's Buzz outfit, but for some reason, I can't get the pictures off of the card and onto the computer! Really, I am usually very good at this sort of thing! I'm wondering if something happened to the card. hmmm.... I'm working on it....

ETA: Typed this, tried again, and VOILA!! It's working!! I guess I just needed some pixie dust!!!

What??? I come back and you all take a day off?? What gives?!?!?!

Anyway over on the budget board there is a thread about homemade holiday gifts and it made me think. You know on Amy Butlers website (www.amybutlerdesign.com) you can go into her sewing pattern section and there are FREE patterns. a few quilts, a yoga bag, some pillows, a cafe wrap skirt and an eye pillow w/ slipcover and carrying case. thought this would be something you girls would be interested in. I'd imagine that you could make eye pillows out of the scraps you've got laying around and they would be really great gifts for coworkers or friends. You know when you've got to have a present/ something nice but not too much. You know what I mean. And the cafe skirt is really cute, it's ankle length but you could probably shorten it easily enough.

Hey TJ (or Heather as the case may be) how 'bout a book mark!!

That was all, I just thought about it, I wanted to do it last year but time ran out on me, I might try to do it this year and knit some chenille washcloths and make bathsalts...VOILA a spa basket. OOh that's a good idea!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: I'll be taking orders through Nov:lmao: :lmao: I cracky me up too.

I love the idea of the spa gift basket!

Finally, I am in a whole world of trouble because I booked our trip during Hannukah. My jewish MIL is not too happy that we are celebrating Hannukah at MVMCP. My DH thinks it is hilarious. (He is jewish three days a year.) I thought it would be nice to surprise her with special Hannukah customs for the girls. I showed DH the fabric and said over his dead body!!!!

th_christmas007.jpg

I spit out my Diet Coke laughing at this! Too funny!

100_0450.jpg

1st 24 hours in USA, at 13 mo he could only commando crawl. He had eczema on his body as well as staph infection and scabies, severe asthma and GERD. See the hole in the bottom of his right foot? It bled and bled. That's why DD called me from Russia on a cell to the USA...amazing technology...and I called the International Adoption Doctor who wanted to see him as soon as he landed...well, the next day at least!

100_0428.jpg

Blurry photo, but you can see the hole in his head that looked like cancer.. in the airport when DD lifted his hat and I saw it, I lost my breath! I couldn't believe what I saw...it was an infection, deep hole with staph...he was very curious with all of his toys and wanted to see how each one worked.

100_0383.jpg

He had scabies and he just scratched and scratched and then we all got scabies and we scratched and scratched!...we are on our way out the first day in the USA to see the Russian International adoption doctor for a thorough physical exam...his wheezing was so terrible you could hear it in the next room. It took 3 of us to hold a nebulizer mask on him and he fought for 15 minutes straight...after about 4 treatments, he finally got the idea that we weren't going to hurt him.

100_0438.jpg

He loves his new Daddy, and Daddy adores him...and as sick as he is, he is smiling...all the time...
100_0596.jpg

After 4 weeks in the USA with nutrition and medications. He loves swimming and taking a bath...he never had a bath before! With his loving Mommy

Sorry, I am done now...I won't hog up space with my emotional stories...can't help myself...I just love people and kids, and seeing all of you and your little lovies just melts my heart...I had always wanted to be a grandma and it was heartbreaking to me knowing that my DD would never have the joy of carrying a child, but she has the joy of our Nicholas, the joy of providing a life to a child who so deserved this life in America with love and comfort and security...:grouphug:

Susan, thanks so much for sharing his journey here. Seeing the pictures breaks my heart and now I want to hop on the next plane to Russia and bring babies back! I've been lucky to have two beautiful daughters but I always think that adoption/foster is something I would want to do.

What an adorable little boy! Your story brought tears to my eyes. I am glad to see he looks so healthy now. Oh you poor souls with scabies itchy itchy. . .

Thanks for sharing his story. I would love to adopt a baby too or maybe an older child.

Fantastic job! They're great!

I love looking at all the things you guys make. I bought 2 custom outfits for my girls for our trip and they didn't arrive in time. Now I have 2 minnie outfits that I can't use.:sad1:

Who cares if you're not at DIsney, let them wwear them! You can always resell too.

I know exactly what to do with the rolled hem foot. Listen carefully... wrap the foot in bubble wrap, insert into envelope, address to TnMom25 and drop in mailbox! See how simple that is! :rotfl: And you thought it would be complicated!!!!

Hee Hee!

I don't have to wrap anything, it's still in the bubble wrap!

   Congrats on your trip!!!!! If you're talking about the one that has the flags on it too, I bought some at Hancocks last Monday.

Ok I am posting when I can which is not often with a very sick 11mo.

Susan- Your story is heartbreaking! All of those poor babies needing a home! How sad and hard for you children to walk out and leave them! I am glad to see how well Nicolas is doing now! What a happy healthy cutiepie!:yay:

All of the new outfits are soooo good! Everytime I get a chance to get on here there are more and more pics to look through, and my dd4 sits and says mommy I want that and that and that!!! Everything is so amazing! I am working on an outfit for dd11mo first birthday! I will try to post pics when I finish. Hopefully DD11mo is going to get better and life will get easier!!!:rotfl:

I hope she feels better soon. I know it is not easy when the dc are sick.

My 10dd gets pneumonia all the time. She started that when she was an infant.

Ok, I'll try to attempt to show how I made the Buzz spiral sleeves on Lyddys outfit!

First I took the piece that I had leftover from making the spirals.
010_640x480.jpg

Trace the outside edge of this onto some paper to form your pattern piece
016_640x480.jpg

Here's what it will look like
018_640x480.jpg

Take your leftover piece and put the outside edge on your pattern piece. Move it around until you like the width of it (this one is a little skinny, I would make it wider than this)
020_640x480.jpg

Trace the edge onto your pattern paper
022_640x480.jpg

Voila! A pattern piece that looks a lot like a banana!
026_640x480.jpg

Cut out your pattern piece
028.jpg

Place your pattern onto your leftover fabric piece, line up the outside edge and then you don't have to cut that side. Cut out enough pieces to be able to cut out your sleeve pattern.
030_640x480.jpg

Sew all of your pieces together, just like you did your skirt. Of course, your piece will be fabric and not paper like I'm showing here. :lmao: And there will probably be a lot more pieces to this, I just got tired of drawing the bananas.
033_640x480.jpg

I then pressed it.

Now, place your sleeve pattern onto the fabric. Place the inside part of your pattern (the part betwen "place on fold" and the diagonal cut) on the straight edge of your fabric. I had to sort of stretch it straight, since it had a tendency to curl. (you can't see this in the picture since paper doesn't stretch well)I also trimmed the tops so that the tops of the spirals were all even. (This will be the edge that you put the elastic through if you are making a paesant blouse)
035_640x480.jpg

Cut out your sleeve piece.
038_640x480.jpg

Your sleeve (although yours will be twice this big, this is only half a sleeve)
040_640x480.jpg

I then put a hem around the outside edges of the sleeve.

Sew your sleeve onto the bodice
042_640x480.jpg

All done!

These are great directions, would you mind adding these to the bookmarks when you get a chance? Thanks!:thumbsup2

I can do that. Wow, this may be the first time I've got to add MYSELF to the bookmarks! :cool1:

done! I put it under tops.

Just a reminder, if anyone is trying to find something on the bookmarks site, there is a search link at the top of the page that can help! Sometimes when I don't remember where I put something, I use that.

I remember someone posting a coupon code for YCMT.com a little while back. I don't need the WWMAG one-I already used it!!! But there was another one right after that. There is a super cute peek-a-boo skirt that I want to make, I have a great idea for it already!!!! Now I just have to find the coupon code and then the time to work on it! Thanks

NEVER MIND, I THOUGHT AFTER I POSTED I BET IT IS IN TJ BOOKMARKS-BY GOLLY IT IS. THANKS FOR THE GREAT BOOKMARKS!!!!

FYI it is PUMPKIN-oh no it expired 9/30

Anyone have new one?

Teresa! You are not cutting all that out with preschool safety scissors are you? Where are your real scissors? I am laughing so hard! :rotfl2:

Um, thank you for adding to the bookmarks. That is way too much for me to try to absorb on a first reading. I might have to bring the fabric over to the computer when I try it! You are awesome!
