Ask and you shall receive! Here a few prom pics. To keep it on subject... My mom made the first 2 dresses!

My mom also made my homcoming dree my sophmore year. I can't find a picture of that one. It was my favorite (probably because of the story behind it) It was red taffeta with a drop waist. There was a LARGE Black velvet bow on the back - I pretty much sat on it! Anyway, my dad gave my boyfriend a fingerprint card so he could check the bow after the dance for fingerprints!

ETA - Sorry about the pictures of a picture!!

Hi Everyone,

Directions for the simplest poodle skirt ever? i saw a poodle patch at the store, but would love to make the skirt - would you put something ruffly underneath?

thanks, wendy

Well it's not my prom pic but this pic does show my hair LOL

(It also explains WHY to this day I DON'T CAMP!) My Mother and stepfather slept in the "lovely" camper show in the picture. The kids had to sleep in those ugly orange pup tents. (I hated those things) :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Teresajoy does the camper look familiar? Maybe it is the same one your cousin has now pirate:

That is great!!! Thanks for sharing!!! What year was this? Might I add that you are really cute!
This was in 1994, my prom was 1991. Thanks. :)

I've gotta say- not nearly enough sparkle and those sleeves could be a little poofier! :rotfl:
Only 1 huge poofy sleeve, but LOTS of sparkle. My DH wanted me to wear the short sparkle dress, but us girls decided that might be too risque for the military boys to handle.

That is some seriously high hair.
You look great though. I tried the high hair but I have a ton of hair so it would always fall no matter how much hair spray I used, so when I was a sophomore I just grew out my bangs.

I just wanted to thank everyone on this board for being so wonderful! I am having a seriously BAD day. DD4 is really sick. She's throwing up, has a headache and is needing a lot of snuggling. Meanwhile, DS1 is sticking his hands in her "puke bucket", pulling her hair, taking her water, climbing on the table, getting into the kitchen cabinets, sitting on the dog, etc....

So, during the few seconds I have free, I am checking the boards. To my delight, there are wonderful 80's-90's prom photos for my viewing pleasure!

I just love you guys! :grouphug:

Heathersue, sorry to hear you DD is sick. Hope she feels better soon.

For you viewing pleasure:

Sorry for the picture of the picture, I did not think to scan it.

Notice the POUFY sleeves!!!!! No Poufy hair (not that you can tell) The sleeves were big enough.

Here are my junior and senior prom pictures. That's my DH making a really weird face in the 2nd pic. TeresajoyCE made both dresses!

Here's the biggest my hair ever got in 1990. Thank you "Stiff Stuff" hairspray! I had to add this picture of DH too. Wasn't he HOT!!!???

Well...I am starting to organize things to start packing...we don't leave until next Saturday, but with soccer, gymnastics, dance and work (oh yeah my REAL job) I take any moment I can to get ahead...wanted to show you some stuff as it gets packed...this was my first (and so far only) attempt at an applique....each peice cut out and then HAND STITCHED down....no fancy machines here...would if I could, but my machine doesn't do that....

I think it came out pretty good anyway...the skirt was DD's idea...can you find the hidden Mickey in the circles????

Will try to get some of the others up later...did a shirred top !!! My husband asked if I was trying to get a girl scout badge or something as I tried almost one of everything I have seen here !!!

I love this outfit! The way you "pleated" the dress on Cinderella is fantastic! I love that idea! If I ever get around to making a princess outfit I'm going to have to CASE this one! Great job!

Looks like even more great work is happening. Love Aurora and the matching Minnie sets shown plus more that I can't remember right now.

BTW - I'm glad to know I'm not the oldest but I'm up there having graduated in 1980.

Oh, you poor thing! Is the frankle one of those things like the poor girl (I believe it was Joan Cusack) on Sixteen Candles had to wear?

No, you may not think of me as "huh-kite" in your head! :snooty:

I also hated pink. Unfortunately, before my sister got married and moved out, she decorated our bedroom in pink and blue. I got to live with that through my teenage years. I liked black... Although, my favorite colors are pink and purple now. Tessa's room is "bibbidi bobbidi blue" and "wave of the wand". She also has the coolest light fixture- ever! I'll post pictures if you'd like!

Hope Tessa is feeling better soon! The frankle (or is it frankel, I've tried to forget it) was probably very similar. It didn't go around my neck, didn't hers? And I got glasses in middle school. Fortunately I was in the gifted program so all my friends were fellow geeks!

Oh I found a picture:

mjphoto9.jpg

Of course I would like to see her room! I would love to see all the little girls' rooms!

Oh my gosh, you poor, poor, thing!!! That girl on Sixteen Candles also had a neck brace, I believe.
Here's Tessa's room. Since she's sick, Sawyer had to help me "model" it. DH built our house and we've lived here a little over a year. So, I got to pick out all the stuff for it.
Here's her light fixture!
Tessaslight.jpg

Here's her bed (with an awful lot of stuff on top of the turrets). Tessa loves cats, so there is a non-Disney cat quilt my grandma made me when I was a kid:
Tessasbed.jpg

I tried to get a picture of it all together here. I haven't finished putting the border up because it isn't sticking very well. There's a stained glass panel above the door (from Voldemort):
9-21-04SittingonTessasbed.jpg

I'm not done decorating it, but I have all sorts of ideas.

I love that light fixture! That is a good idea, painting half pink with the border. Maybe I can do that and it won't be quite as much work as painting the whole room. Look what I found!

prom.jpg

I couldn't find my senior picture, but here is a prom pic. I blurred my date's face out since I haven't spoken to him since the prom (he was a weird duck himself) and hopefully you can see that weird hair color I had. I'm laughing at it because you can see those bones in the side and in the front are all that's holding that dress up. I don't know what possessed me to do a strapless, especially the same color as my skin. I blame my mother: she really should have known better! :rotfl2:

Now I want to go take pictures of M's room. I really like it the way it is, but I guess the princess should get a room like she wants.

The rest of the family has already decided on a costume for halloween & MNSSHP, except me!! I am thinking that I want to be Belle with the blue dress but I have looked around for the costume or a pattern and have not found much. There was a suggestion on an old thread about making a cape- but what to wear under it?? We are going to the last MNSSHP on Nov. 2 so I have some time but not alot. I was thinking of Alice at least she seems to be popular with patterns, But I am brunett and do not want to wear a wig- besides it being hot and itchy, it might freak out my 14 mo. DD!!! DD is going as tink, DH captin Jack, DS Buzzlightyear. I also thought of being a pirate too, but I really want to be a princess!! And also DS would kind of be "one of these things is not like the others" if the rest of us were peter pan/ piratey and he was Buzz. I don't know!! Help Please!!!!!!

I went as Belle for MNSSHP when we were there last week and made my costume ...

the pic is fuzzy, but until I get my own pics uploaded or order my photopass this is the best I have...

I used 2 patterns, one for the blouse and then I freehanded the collar and then a separate pattern for the dress that I had to modify heavily. I wasn't thrilled with it, but it turned out decently enough. For the dress, I used a costume pattern for a German dirndl dress. I reshaped the back piece, converted it from a front button to a back invisible zipper, slimmed down the silhouette of the skirt a bit (though not quite enough) and hemmed it shorter. If I make a better one down the road, I'll be lengthening the bodice and adjusting the size as it was too loose (though the apron helped cinch it a bit) For the underskirt, I didn't have a pattern at all, though I used the concept of the tiered twirl skirt from the ladies here and made up my own tab closure. It worked out decently enough. Had a lot of great comments on my costume at the party, which was a lot of fun!

Woohoo! Check out this website (I found it through Rostitchery's blog) it shows videos of different sewing feet/acessories!

http://www.sewingmachine-sales.co.uk/sewing_machine_info/video/sewing-machine-feet.php
OHHHH! Thank You for that valuable resource! I STILL can't do a decent narrow rolled hem so I'm doing a very time consuming flower stitch on the notorious Aurora costume. One of the preprogrammed fancy nancy stitches in my machine. It's awesome excpt the pinning of 3 miles of circle was "fun". I too bookmarked that link! Thank YOU!!!!!

I LOVE your bangs! I totally used to have a diagonal slant too. An enough Aqua Net to weather a hurricane! I loved all of your pics!!
COOL Camper! You had Miss America hair too! LOL!

You both are hotties! Stiff Stuff!!!! :lmao:
Ohhhh I hope you didn't have a wardrobe malfunction! So pretty!

Bon Jour Provincial Belle! You looked great as Belle! That Tink is cute too!

You guys! I LOVE seeing all the old pictures! I feel like this is one great big sewing family now! :grouphug: Sorry, I'm so dorky that way. I just love all the finished creations everyone posts!!! This is my very favorite DisBoards Thread. For Real! (Or "Fo' Rizzle" as we say in the hood. Evidently I'm part gangsta housewife).

I'm all packed except for the suitcase for Norah's clothes that rivals Miss Piggy's "gown trunks" at Muppets Vision 3D ...which I can't wait to see! I did the 1 gal. ziplock baggie idea for each day's outfits and WOW is that a cool idea! All her many bows are in a bag with air in the bag to protect them.

I'm bringing my spray starch to iron any inevitable wrinkles.

I'm such a red neck and one of my "luggage" is a big huge cooler to use as a fridge at POP (free ice) to save the $10. per day fridge fee. That's $100 saved according to my fuzzy Disney math...more dole whips and funnel cakes for us!

I always feel like I'm forgetting something at this point....

I would do a circle skirt (lots of directions in the bookmarks) with a crinoline or something under it. (Sorry, not very helpful, am I!)

Well it's not my prom pic but this pic does show my hair LOL

OH my GOSH!!! You have my cousin Christopher's camper!!!!! Did you put it on a trailer and hall it around too!!!

I use to have a horse that looked like that. His name was Rasberry. He was a BAD horse! If you were walking him, he would stick his foot out to the side, and PURPOSELY step on your foot! He once ran me into this big bush that we had next to our house, and just stopped there, so I would get off! I really didn't like that horse!

But, I did have a very nice little pony named Dandy. He was WILD when we got him. So, my Dad read some books, and decided that we could train him. I can't count the number of times I got bucked off, or got scared and just jumped. I had NEVER really ridden a horse before!!! What the heck was my Mom thinking letting me do that?????:confused I was 12 at the time. But, he did turn out to be a decent little pony. He was part Arabian and part Chincoteque. That spelling is way wrong, but it's the same kind of horse as Misty and Stormy, from the books. You know, the ones that come from the island?? He was just beautiful.
I just wanted to thank everyone on this board for being so wonderful! I am having a seriously BAD day. DD4 is really sick. She's throwing up, has a headache and is needing a lot of snuggling. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: You tell Tessa that Aunt Teresa and Lydia feel really bad that she is sick, and give her a hug and kiss for us! It breaks my heart to think of her felling so bad. Too bad your neighbor is gone, you could send that little stinker Sawyer over there!

I'm glad you are enjoying the trip down memory lane!! I have to find my prom pictures. I just had them the other day! Or, I could just put on the dress and model it for you all (not southern, can't say y'all).

Heathersue, sorry to hear you DD is sick. Hope she feels better soon.

I'm not done decorating it, but I have all sorts of ideas.

Heather's house is truly GORGEOUS!!! She and Henry should be very proud of themselves, they worked very hard to get it. It's just one of those houses where there is something beautiful to see around every corner! I am just so proud of her!

It's funny though, because I live in the simplest of simple little straight ranch houses. Tessa was over the other day and said she thought my house was beautiful!!!! What a sweet heart!

I love that light fixture! That is a good idea, painting half pink with the border. Maybe I can do that and it won't be quite as much work as painting the whole room. Look what I found!
