I love the hoody! Your son is a doll!! Of course, he reminds me of my little guy- do you see a resemblance?

Thanks! I do think they look alike. Must be the blue eyes. I also have a Tessa too. It's my 10yo step-daughter. I think it's such a pretty name.

I've been busy for a few days so haven't had time to see all the great outfits everyone posted.

But, I found the Joann's by my home and they had the green mickey swirl fabric. I don't know if anyone is still looking for it but I bought some extra (I had a 40% off coupon). PM me with how much you are looking for and I might be able to help you out.

Have a great weekend!

One eye opener for me in watching this thread is the lack of fabric stores. Even 10 years ago I had a choice of 5 different stores, plus Walmart...now all I have is Joann and Walmart in my area. Hancocks closed, and Joann downsized in some stores. Unless I go into Philadelphia into the city, there isn't much choice....sad. Do they even teach sewing in school anymore? I can remember 7th grade being taught in home ec how to make a pleated skirt. Man, I wore that skirt all the time...but that was in the 60's. I think if it weren't for quilters we wouldn't even have Joann! Maybe I should go over to those quilt shop fabric stores in Lancaster ... I know they had really great fabric a few years ago and hundreds of patterns.

This site is hazardous to my finances...bought a serger and now my Brother Disney embroidery machine arrives today!!! I am really into the thick of things!

Keep those pics coming...love to see all of your tallents...I am so proud of my young Dis friends and their keeping sewing alive!!

Have a great day everyone!

OOH! You bought the Brother machine?! I'd love to hear how you like it from a newbie perspective. I was going to ask for either a new sewing machine or a serger for Christmas, and then caved and bought the serger anyway. Now I'm thinking that I'll ask for a new sewing machine, and can't decide if I want the Brother 6000 or the embroidery one. Let me know how it goes! This information will be helpful.

Have a great day everyone!

Its so funny you should mention this. My DH and kids and I went to Lancaster for a few days earlier this week. Knowing that it is quilt capital of the eastern US, I thought to myself.....fabric stores!!!! So I went online and got addresses and directions to the top three stores listed which were JoAnn's, Hancock's and PA Fabric Outlet. I also planned on hitting a couple of Walmarts. (I live 45 min away from the only fabric store). Well, we stopped at a Walmart along the way and I found some cool stuff. Then in Lancaster we went to PA Fabric Outlet. It was a bust. Then later in the day (it was cold and raining btw) we started looking for Hancocks. We drove and drove and finally I stopped and asked. It went out of business!!! Ahhh  DH was tired of driving and so we stopped at another Walmart and I found some great stuff and that was the end. We never did look for the JoAnn's. :sad2: :sad2: I can't believe Lancaster is having trouble keeping sewing stores open. Who'd a thunk

She looks adorable! How are you and DW doing? My DS has his first day next Thursday.

DW cried all the way back home from the bus stop.:sad1:

I just got the "hard lump in your throat that won't go away feeling".:sad2:

It will get better. I know it will!

Good luck to you next Thursday!

Check out the Creative DISigns board. They have some really cute designs on there that you can print on your own transfer paper.

I have asked some of the ladies there for a special design I wanted and they were very willing to help me.

PiperPizzazz- That LINK!!!! OMGosh!!!!!

LOOK at those outfits and dresses! They are so cool!

BUT!!!< I'd never be able to spend that kind of money on clothing! And be able to feed my family and have electricity...

I am so inspired by the clothing that's like that and posted HERE. It really makes me feel good when I KNOW I can make things like that (my simpler versions till I get better, anyway). It's a matter of considering your skill, finding great fabric and adornments, and finding the right pattern! Oh, and the TIME to make the item. But GOSH, in the end, when the final loose threads are clipped and the garment is pressed one last time....it's such a good feeling! :woohoo:

I wanted to say 'hi' to all of you since I feel like I know you from reading this massive thread. Your beautiful designs have converted me. I broke out my mom's sewing machine and she and I used it for the first time Tues. This is really the first time I've made anything and it was coming along until the bobbin and I got into a fight and it won. Now it's sitting there waiting for her to come back and fix it this weekend.

I went to JoAnns yesterday and bought more fabric for our Disney trip. Once I get something completed, I'll try to post. And I'll try to respond more but I'm actually at work, and can't read this board all day :confused3

I noticed quite a few from Maryland- I live close to Annapolis- so Hi neighbors!

And, we're taking my DD for her 5th b-day on Spet 20- 24 at ASSp. I'm sure I'll see some of the fabulous clothes there!

Truly, this is an inspiring thread and I'm really excited about starting a new hobby :cool1:

April

Oh, and for the record, I love Harry Potter and Star Wars!

TOM - your DD looked very, very cute on her first day of school. What a great outfit to start school off right! I hope that you and your DW feel great about her being in school real soon. It's so tough (for us, not for them!).

On a separate note - HOLY RUFFLES, BATMAN! I just started working on my first twirl skirt (using the turquoise, lime green scattered mickey head fabric). All I can say is, WOW! That's a LOT of ruffles! I mean, I knew that, but WOW! There's something about when all the strips are sewn together and it makes a HUGE pile of fabric, and you realize "that is ONE tier!" WOW! I'm sure it'll look great (well, as great as it can with me sewing it!). But man, that is a lot of fabric! I'll keep you all posted.

Welcome!!!!!

I LOVE Harry Potter but the rest: Star Wars and Star Trek etc. I can take em or leave em. There! I said it.

Voldemort - I asked the same thing LOL - code name ebay

There are fabric stores in Bird In Hand that sell loads of fabrics for quilting. I will hit it tomorrow and let those of you know how it is and how to get there for those who live nearby or plan to visit the PA Amish country. Yes, that's right I said Bird In Hand - and we truly do have Paradise, Blue Ball, Intercourse, all in Lancaster County PA.

Our Walmart had all of the Disney Fabric and I got lots of red with white polka dots at our Joann's in the quilting area.

I will let those of you who want to know how my Brother Disney embroidery machine works. It was given a best value award by Consumer Reports, so i think that is a good sign. I love my Brother serger. Now to figure out how to sneak them all down to my sewing table without my husband hitting the roof....well, afterall, I do work and make money too! Well, I should be working now. but had a lull in my clinic - :rolleyes1

I know I haven't been around the thread in a while, but I was hoping someone could help me troubleshoot a problem I'm having sewing elastic.

My machine is the Disney Brother SE-270D. When I sew elastic, the bobbin thread won't turn and the bobbin thread snarls and tangles up. :confused3

I've asked my mom about it, and she has no idea why it does that. She said she has never seen a machine do that.

I've read in the manual and I've been using the stitches recommended for sewing elastic. I'm getting very frustrated, and I'm afraid my machine will break. I've been having to hand stitch my elastic together, and I don't like doing that.

Please help me! Has anyone else had this problem?
