I have a cricut! Maybe I'll dust it off and give it a go! I saw the Disney cartridges at Walmarshay, and was sorely tempted.

Anything to make cutting these dang-blasted letters out easier!

Lisa-Zoe- Thanks for the tu tu instructions! It's really cool! I only have 10 yards of black and orange tulle I plan on blasting with glitter spray, uh..."pixie dust", to turn into a witch. But tulle is pretty cheap, so if I need more, I'm not too put-out. That outfit is crazy cute!

Not clothes, but here is a pillowcase we made for character autographs on our cruise. I'm planning on having them sign on the yellow part with a black marker. I thought it would make a cute souvenir for DD. Her name is on the other side in the same Disney font.

This is GENIUS! I LOVE IT! I so need to CASE this too!

Hi All, I just found out we will be at Disney for the MNSSHP, or whatever it's called...Yea!! So now I have to find costumes for my dd's.
So far the ideas are....Tinkerbell sitting on a toadstool..(there's something like it on our favorite auction site), or a car hop at Minnie's Diner...
Anyone else have any ideas that aren't princesses, witches, devils, or hanna montanna...LOL
When I asked my littlest if she wanted to be Shirley Temple for Halloween, her reply was," Who's Shirley Pitbull?":rotfl: :rotfl:

I would go with Minnie!
I got lots of attention last year, and I'm a pooh sized adult.
I can just imagine the reaction to a little girl - especially if it's a well made custom.

please help -

do i have to wash my fabric before applying it to the jeans or no???? im really not sure!!! thanks, wendy

I was taught to wash fabric before sewing, so it will shrink before being made. I don't usually pay much attention to this rule.

ohohoohohoh!
I'll trade ya embroidered stuff for cricut stuff.
hmm.
maybe you can do the actual applique too.
heh.

I use a hair dryer to get wrinkles out of my DD's tutus. When we travel with tutus, I squish them into a 2.5 gallon ziploc bag and squeeze out all the air. When we arrive, they're really, really flat and wrinkly. I just pull out the hair dryer and fluff them up (it takes a little bit of time, and you don't want to get the hairdryer too close to the tulle). It works like a charm!

As far as the above tutu - I have no clue if this is made from bolted 45" tulle, but if it is made from the 6" rolls of tulle, my best guess would be 150-200 yards. To make a very full knee length tutu, it takes me about 60 yards. With this being mega full and extra length, my best guess is 150-200 yards.

Another trick to help keep the tutu full is to hand them upside down. We do this for my dd's balet outfits.

I have the cutest 3 year old cousin (she's a smart easygoing kid)

My mom suggested that I make her Halloween costume so I asked her what she wanted to be. First she said "Mimi" (apparently Hello Kitty's sister???) but after much convincing, settled on another character

"Pink Minnie Mouse"!!!

Ok, I know red minnie mouse fabric is out there at Walmart (saw a ton of it there last week) but is it going to be possible to find larger white on pink??? Anyone know of it for fairly cheap?

And should I just CASE the costume from tons of pictures or is there a pattern/tutorial out there? She wears at least a 4 but I could skinny down a 5 because she is so tall.

Any tips for my first Minnie Mouse costume????

hi all,

any ideas for decorating boys jean shorts without making them girly? its for a 3 year old boy,,,,,, thanks!

Another question-

My birthday is coming up-

My mom suggested a new sewing machine (I have a hand-me-down White from the 70's) and I told her about the Brother 6000 that everyone has been enjoying.

Now with all the talk about serger I am wondering if I should suggest a serger instead. They would want me to pick out the model myself, so which one do you suggest?

Or should I stick with the Brother sewing machine... my current machine only needs a new foot pedal ($20 on voldemort from what I can tell). Any thoughts?

Genius? :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Try insane!!! Where were you when I started this thing. Don't you know we all share a telekinetic bond? You should have sensed my project forming in my mind and jumped in with "oh no, that's going to be difficult... you might want to start with something larger and easier" :rotfl:
Hey I dont think I would even attempt something that size. I value what little I have left of my sanity. You did a great job!

Ok, I'm going into lurkmode for a while. At least, I'm going to try to. I know it will be hard, but I homeschool my children and we have to start school today. Well, we don't have to, but we are. My computer breaks will be spread out the day between tasks and my sewing is going to be limited to quiet time and after the girls go to bed. So, you all keep sewing and inspiring me and I will be lurking, maybe ;) .
Me too! We already started with art. They have been going at it on the porch. I bought them some canvases and different types of paint to experiment with. If they get it on them, they just play in the water before they come in. :rotfl: School and recess in one. I love the flexibility of homeschooling, they attended public school until the 2nd and 4th grade, so this is different but better. I don't get much alone time though....:rolleyes1

Aw, I'll miss you! Megan loves the Ariel outfit and wants me to make her one like it. She loves to shop on this thread and pick out outfits! Anyway, good luck with your first day of school. I send mine off tomorrow (first day of kindergarten, sniff!).
I feel for you, its so hard to let them go.

I have been busy busy this weekend (with a flop of a yardsale) and unable to post. I love all the new stuff!
I have been calling DS Boo Boo since almost the day he was born. He has a stuffed chicken that he loves and we call that Boo BOO chicken.
HAHA----My DMIL calls DS Boo BOO Bear.
Isnt it funny that out of all the things we could call our kids we all call them similar silly names! :thumbsup2
This is so cute and a great idea to use it as a dress for younger DD.
Okay, another quote mishap. I admit it. I have a problem. :rotfl2: Isnt that the first step.... I have no idea what this quote was for.. But I must have loved it whatever it was.:thumbsup2

Have fun with the homeschooling. We also homeschool, but won't be starting till after Labor Day. We want to wait till the pool closes for the year.
Hey another HS mom! Yeah!:thumbsup2 BTW, my oldest dd made her first pair of pants for home economics this year. And they turned out great and she wore them and got lots of compliments and then she told them she made them. :woohoo: What a boost for her self confidence!

I just got my bolt of 50 YARDS of pink tulle for DD's birthday party! It was only $30 WITH SHIPPING on Voldemort. I'll post pictures after her party next weekend. We are hoping for a nice day. If it rains all my decorating plans will be for naught!! (It has been pouring in my part of Michigan for 2 days, and is expected to rain the rest of the week )So after the party I'll have LOTS of left over tulle!!!
Thank you!

You did good! Your niece benefited from your gift and I bet she was as happy as could be!

TOTALLY OT: Just realized that my inlaws changing us to an off property hotel cancels my extra magic hours plans INCLUDING the magical beginnings. I'm tempted to get a room at a moderate just to be able to go- is that totally insane???

...t.
I'm so sorry... I would rent a moderate room, but that's just me. It's all about the magic of the trip. :sad2:

Here are a couple outfits for our trip. I can't take the credit - MIL made them, but I thought they were cute.
I am so jealous. I have been looking for that yellow dot fabric. No one here has it, so that means a trip to the metroplex...arrrrghhhpirate:

Absolutely!

I have a grumpy brother in law and for each of his kids' birthdays I give the loudest most obnoxious toys I can...taser guns, popcorn popper, anything with a pull-string and repetative noises, or BARNEY("I love You, You love me....")
:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: This is what my db's always said I did....:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Great job!

I did this tutu last year using 6 inch wide rolls. I think I ended up using 65-75 yards.
So I was right about 100 yds. ....Holy cow.....

30 more days. What are your dates?

Step by step-
adhere the fabric that you want to applique to the heat n bond. Leave the back of the heat n bond on. Stencil the letters, or whatever shape you are doing to the back on the heat n bond paper, you must draw them BACKWARDS so that when you cut them out it with be correct on the front fabric, it you don't the letters will be backwards on the fabric. Since you are drawing on the back it is the mirror image. Make sense? After the design is cut out, take off the back of the heat n bond and adhere the applique fabric to the garment fabric. Applique.

That is so great! Thanks!

Well I am pleased to say that DB actually sent me a picture via the cell phone of DN3 in her JoJo outfit at WDW :thumbsup2 I don't know if she was wearing the shoes and I didn't ask. He said she had a great time and JoJo at MGM made a fuss over her outfit :cool1:

I am a happy camper :yay:

So happy for you! She wore the outfit, and you got a picture!

For the length and fullness of the tutu shown, I'd at least double that amount. Using the 6 inch rolls is quicker but the wider tulle can be used, too, by cutting into strips 6-8" wide. I cut 6" wide strips into pieces double the length I want for the tutu, fold in half and then knot them onto the elastic for the waistband. Sometimes I cut the ends to a point before knotting them. That makes a cute edge that is more "finished" looking. I used this method for the knots: http://www.gophotography.com/tutu/ I prefer using wider elastic than shown in the tutorial because it doesn't get stretched out of shape as easily.

Wow! So many responses about all the tulle it takes to make thsi skirt! Thanks to everyone! I just can't imagine 65 yards of anything!! I'm gonna start with 10! I figure when I tie the strips on, I can always add more. Here is a picture of the last one I made (posted before but it's my favorite, so I am posting again...bear with me please!!)
Picture010.jpg

It was pretty easy by the way. Next time I'd just do longer strips, and use a piece of cardboard to wrap the tulle around and make one big cut insteas of tons of little ones!

A little OT but still Disney related :)

Does anyone on this thread scrapbook? I am going through some of my swap things and I have a JOJO and a Goliath paper piecing that I can send out to you. They are really cute, I didn't make them so I can say that :rotfl2:

I also have the little otter I think his name is Peanut Butter from one PB&J

If you are interested PM me.

I am so glad you got this, it is totally adorable!

I got the yellow polka dot, too. We are using it in a dress for my DD. It was $2 a yard and now I am wishing I bought the whole bolt and not just 1 yard!

And to think I have been using plain white pillow cases that I had someone embroidery. Now I have to have one like this!!
(Wow, I quoted you 3 times!)

I purchased a bolt of tulle from Hobby Lobby it had 40 yards and I used my 40% off coupon so it was only $20. I would recommend if you are going to make this to buy the wider tulle, cut it to the length, fold it in half and make a casing across the folded part (is that the right sewing term? I am still new to this! Anyway, a hole you can pull the elastic through)
I ahve done it both ways now and this seems easier, not as much cutting or tying! I can show you a picture of one I did with the casing, if you want. It is not a real full one because I made it for my friend to be the tooth fairy. But you can easliy make this type extremely full!

Of COURSE I want to see the picture! I appreciate all help! I've only made the tie type. It was pretty easy.

I found it at Walmart a few months ago. Not the best quality in the world, but when I ran out and wanted more for a pillowcase, it was gone. And I can't find anything like it at Hancock or Joanns. :sad2: I like it with the red Minnie dot - just wish my Walmart still had it.

Robert Kaufman has a yellow with white dot pimatex basic. You will have to do a "Search" for it unless you can buy a whole bolt wholesale from them. I might in the future. Pimatex basics are very nice and a good quality 100% cotton.

When I asked my littlest if she wanted to be Shirley Temple for Halloween, her reply was," Who's Shirley Pitbull?":rotfl: :rotfl:

I can totally see your girls as Dorothy. It's not a witch or a princess, but could also be worn to Disney Studios and the Great Movie Ride.I also love little girls in Raggedy Ann.

My mom made my sister and I flower costumes on year too. It was a long green dress, the long sleeved arms were brown, and we had a "hoodie" type hood that had the petals sticking off. My sister and I won the Halloween contest every year in our school. One year I went as a table. My head was the center piece with dried flowers, and the table was fully decorated. i think I creamed about eight other kids that time though, because I couldn't see my feet. I used to be so jealous of my friends who had store bought costumes and used to be "wonderwoman" We were Jolly Green Giant and the little elf dude too.

Back to your question though. There are some cute Poodle appliques pre-done at Waldamort. A big old poodle skirt and top might be the most comfortable for the rides.
