I finally have enoughj posts to share some things I've done. My budget isn't glad I found this board, but my dds & I sure are!

This is my first applique & my first patchwork work.

This is my first attempt at shirring. It was supposed to be a top for DD3, but she said it was too itchy & refused to wear it. So I changed the straps to be a halter & DD1 wears it as a dress. She's really getting the hang of this walking stuff so 'still' is not in her vocabulary.

They're both fantastic!!

I love the castle this way because this is the way it was decorated for my DD's first WDW trip.

BTW, I didn't like the bling cake at all!! Different strokes......

I didn't like the cake castle. We were there for our honeymoon and were just in shock that they had done it. We kept thinking about all of the people that were probably there for a once in a lifetime trip and the Pepto cake is what they saw. I would have been crushed!

Why My Husband Rocks-

My mom signed up to take a quilting class at local quilt shop. Her sewing machine was not working properly, so I lent her mine. At first it did not seem like a big deal, but I gradually began to regret it. Not so much helping my mom, but handing my sewing machine off when all I want to do is use it. My husband, who usually has a problem with listening and sensing things, actually picked up on this and took me out and let me buy a replacement sewing machine because he could tell how upset I was.

Wow! I had no idea that after 13 years he would still be able to pick up on stuff like that – especially with the amount of things he has going on like work, grad school, etc. Just when you think your husband is totally clueless he may go and surprise you like this.

I almost bought the Brother 6000 that everyone is raving about but I did not know if my Singer accessories would fit. I really do love my new Singer so I opted to get the Singer serger. I am so excited because now I can wash these dresses without worry!!!

My Mom is returning my Singer this week and in the next couple of days I am going to cut fabric. I have all of my outfits planned and almost all of the fabric bought. Now I just do not need anymore ideas!!!

If anyone knows any good tutorials on sergers please PM me! I am a little over my head with this one. Thanks!

I have been busy busy this weekend (with a flop of a yardsale) and unable to post. I love all the new stuff!

I loved that Monsters Inc outfit too and I call DD Boo too! Since Mickey Mouse Club, I also call her Boo Boo Chicken.

I have been calling DS Boo Boo since almost the day he was born. He has a stuffed chicken that he loves and we call that Boo BOO chicken.

that is so funny! We call my dd Boo Boo Bear! Ha same name different animal!

Ok, this is my first attempt at appliques. The first thing I did was the name "Ariel" and I'm really proud of that. The next thing was the Ariel cutout from the fabric of the top and that was a little tricky, but I managed. Then I did Sebastian... now that was rough. I thought it would be easy since it's all one color, except the eyes. Actually, in hindsight, it should have been easy. I just made it complicated by not knowing how to finish the inside lines. I think it looks horrible, but Sarah loves it and that's all that matters. Anyway this is my first one, I have another one to do and it will be a little different.

BTW, don't look too closely!!!! All constructive criticism and advice will be gratiously accepted!

ETA: I CASEd this from here, I think it was revrob or Tink that made one similar for their dd.

I have a Kenmore sewing machine, an older one, about 10 yrs old or so. ANYWHOOO, I want to buy a ruffler foot for it and all I can find are the New snap on kind. Does anyone know if this will work on the older models that are not the New snap on kind? UGH. I reallllllly want a ruffler foot.

Most likely the whole bolt...about 10-12 yards or more...
If anyone knows how to get wrinkles out of tulle, I'd love to hear it...

Ok, I'm going into lurkmode for a while. At least, I'm going to try to. I know it will be hard, but I homeschool my children and we have to start school today. Well, we don't have to, but we are. My computer breaks will be spread out the day between tasks and my sewing is going to be limited to quiet time and after the girls go to bed. So, you all keep sewing and inspiring me and I will be lurking, maybe .

I use a hair dryer to get wrinkles out of my DD's tutus. When we travel with tutus, I squish them into a 2.5 gallon ziploc bag and squeeze out all the air. When we arrive, they're really, really flat and wrinkly. I just pull out the hair dryer and fluff them up (it takes a little bit of time, and you don't want to get the hairdryer too close to the tulle). It works like a charm!

As far as the above tutu - I have no clue if this is made from bolted 45" tulle, but if it is made from the 6" rolls of tulle, my best guess would be 150-200 yards. To make a very full knee length tutu, it takes me about 60 yards. With this being mega full and extra length, my best guess is 150-200 yards.

Sounds like a reason to get a new machine. My ruffler foot screws on though doesn't just snap on. It's the Creative Sewing Solutions one from Hancocks. They told me when I bought it that if it didn't work I could bring it back. They have high and low shank ones.

Oh yes, believe me I uderstand! I don't know why, but I was terrified of doing appliques. The very first thing I did was make a letter "R" and heat n'bonded it to a small square of scrap. Then I appliqued the edges using different stitches until I found the one that I liked the most.

The I used the Waltograph font that I downloaded and typed the word ARIEL. I had dd16 work with it to make just the outlines and print them out the size that I needed. I'm really happy with how that part turned out, even though it all went downhill from there! But, I know what I'm doing now, I just need more practice!

I'm gonna go measure the letters for you, brb.... they are 1 7/8" tall

If I had to do it over again, I would do letters with straight lines, not rounded ones like I did.

She is the biggest one. Approx 6.5 inches long by 6" wide. Minnie and Mickey are about 5"x5" give or take a bit.

I haven't done it with premade stencils but basically make my own. I think it would be easier if you copied the letters onto the heat n bond with it already bonded to the top fabric, just make sure you stencil the letters backwards and then when you cut the letters out they will be correct on the fabric side. Hope this makes sense.

Can you buy 100 yards of tulle? Or is there a limit set by the sewing police? That is one beautiful skirt that I would love to CAB. I just don't know whether I can get a loan approved for fabric.

BTW I loved the cow dress your dd had on earlier but you didnt stick when I made my quotes. I think I'm quote handicapped. I wouldn't have noticed I missed it if someone else hadnt posted it again. I'm sorry, hopefully better late than never?

I'm wondering how to tie it all on. It does make a "statement" though dosen't it?? Besides Waldamort usually has tulle for 77cents a yard, so even if its 20 yards, that isn't too pricey. Now I just wonder how I will buy it, or if they have enough....that is an issue for another day though.

Anyway, we've decided to take a field trip to Grandma's since she and my sister are both off work today. Pooh! We'll have to start school tomorrow. But, we will be organizing our binders today while we are there, so it's mildly school related. Isn't that what most classes do on the first day anyway (book distribution, supply organization, go over the rules, etc.) They can do that while I go to Hobby Lobby and use my 40% coupon

Okay can someone tell me why I need to do these backwards? A step by step process perhaps? Or is this in the bookmarks page??? I have Heat N Bond and just a little fabric so I'd appreciate help. i actually have about 3 minutes of "alone time" today without DH and kids. Of course it's supposed to rain, so that 3 minutes will be gone
