Kids Disney Boutique / Customs Clothes Part 3

I just bought 14 Simplicity patterns for 99 cents each today (plus my wonderful sister got me one yesterday)!! But, I realized that every one I got for my 14 month old son is going to be WAY too big. I want to make him some flannel pajamas, but the XS in the patterns is size 4-5 and he wears between an 18 months and a 2T. Is there an easy way for me to resize these patterns for him, or am I going to have to wait until he grows?

Here's the pattern I wanted to use:

Hmm, not sure. Definitely shorter and take in the sides a a litle bit. Maybe just put a regular tshirt with it for now.
Is it just me or is the 'family' on the pattern kind of sickening. :lmao: I probably just need some sleep, ha ha. I mean, yeah, that's usually what I look like when I go to bed. ;)

Confession: The number of to do projects and the amount of fabric I have far exceeds my skill level and my free time.

Hopefully by next summer I will be up for it. Although I doubt in my version the bottom ladybug will hang down below the hem like this one.

Cute! I doesn't look too hard actually. You can do it! I have seen things hang off of clothes like that before and they are appliqued on to a separte fabric, cut out, then tacked on. The daisies I bet you could find in the trim dept. and just cut apart. I love ladybugs.

What? At the end of the day, your hair hair isn't perfectly coifed and your makeup isn't perfect. Your DDs hair isn't in perfect ringlets?

They look like dorks. Yep i said it...dorks!!

In my family, the mom would have mascarra dried under one of her eyes, and her hair would be stuck up straight , where she tried to look "professional" at work today and forgot that she really dosen't know how to apply make up and /or hairspray, the husband would be shirtless with something looking strangely like a beer in his hand, the son's jammies will be stuck to him because he "forgot" to use the towel after bathing, and the daughter would have a lovely combination of chocolate and toothpaste dried on her face. AND the 15 y o would be in the background rolling his eyes at his parents and siblings, and texting his friends about his latest "girlfriend of the minute "

LOL!! Too funny! You know...I was just thinking...What do these people say when someone asks them what they do for a living? "I'm a pattern model." Come on, we've gotta feel kinda sorry for them, don't we? :rotfl:

This just strikes me as really funny, but maybe that's because it's after midnight...

I finished my 2nd applique (Well I almost finished it, I still have some detail work to do). I made the whole thing as requested by my DD. SHE is very happy with it!   I tried to get a decent picture of her spinning in it and couldn't catch her LOL.

Now I am off to enjoy a diet pepsi! I still need to make something for her to wear to her picnic tomorrow:confused3

aaaah!

This is adorable! My dd loves the dress and wants me to make one, what pattern did you use?

I think she is in love with the blue floral and wants me to do a Lilo and Stitch :)

After being so inspried by everyone I have bought a custom outfit for DN birthday. I have permission to share from the seller/designers. I fell in love with the JoJo outfit Tink561 bought for Gracie and our very own Diser Dena made a similar one for my DN  The pretty little girl in the photo is her DD :cutie: I found a seller on Voldemort to make the matching shoes :cool1:

Very cute! Did you find bows to match?

Okay, how the heck do you get the pictures to show up smaller when you multi-quote?
It's not making anyone mad, I hope ... I was just trying to save space. :)

I noticed the photobucket codes for click-to-enlarge-"THUMBNAILS" is the same url/web address, EXCEPT there's a "th_" before the name of the picture ...
like =
http ://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb57/the-seamstress/ mm_coloring_book.jpg
http ://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb57/the-seamstress/ th_ mm_coloring_book.jpg

minus the spaces, of course

I just quote, copy the img url ... while it's highlighted still, I click the link button, paste the url there ... then I add the th_ to the IMG SCR url (image source) ... and tada, it's now a click-to-enlarge "thumbnail" ...
it's a bit of effort ... but it saves space ... ya know me = "I'm all about saving space" ;)

... I can't type what it looks like without it getting converted to html when I post it ...
you end up with a regular-sized picture URL LINK with the smaller picture link attached to it/viewable here. does that make sense?

not all picture hosts use this method ... but photobucket does :)

:lmao: You painted such a great picture with your words ...
I could totally see it, as I read that ...
but you forgot the diet pepsi in mom's hand ;) ...
my hubby would have a wrench in the other hand, for sure.

One more question for all you creative gals and guys out there.

I have found plenty of ways to organize bows and clips but how do I organize headbands! My DD6 has decided these are what she wants to wear right now but I find them all over. I need a place for her to put the away.....hep!

ARGGGGG!!! I am NOT meant to sew today!!! I started making a ruffle fro DD's Halloween outfit...it didn't work!!! After trying to do it using a basting stitch (it broke BOTH times) I broke out the dental floss. Of course I didn't have quite enough, so I shortened my ruffle. After zigzaging over the floos I startrd gathering. Much better, until I came to a section where the needle caught the floss!!! AHHHH!! :headache: I tugged too hard and heard the tell-tale SNAP.....the zigzag stitch broke!!! I decided to give up on that for now and finish DD's "Cow" dress for a birthday party tomorrow. While hemming it (not even an inch into the hem actually) The machines needle hits a pin...bending it into a "W" shape and of course breaking the needle!!!!! :scared: Now I know I have more needles but...yep you guessed it I CAN'T FIND THEM!!! So I go and get the mail and lo-and-behold an absolutely adorable custom is just waiting to be opened. I go to take a picture to show all of my "new" friends and the battery on the camera is DEAD!!! I QUIT!!! I AM DONE FOR THE DAY!!! I MIGHT ACTUALLY GO CLEAN!! :laundy:

OH! I'm clear back on pg. 688 and couldn't wait to respond to your "sewing drama"! I swear, there are days when I need to just walk away! So, I totally can relate!

My made-up version of the zig zag and floss method of cave-man ruffles is to first to a nice zig zag (no floss yet). Then I thread a sewing needle with a nice long strand of either floss or thread and and taking the needle underneath the zig zag, alllll the way around once. Anchor it first by stitching a quick slip stitch at the beginning of the zig zag so you don't have to start drinking because you've gone all the way around 6 times because you were also DISing. Not that I'd know.

And, your imaginary friends want to see your new fancy shmancy custom thing (what is it?)

Oh, I should tell you I'm actually still back on pg. 688, so if you told us that already and maybe even took a picture of it (since you had to go to Walmart to get new needles, hopefully you got a camera battery too?).

I love seeing what every one is buying and making!!!

Hope tomorrow is a much more wonderful sewing day!

Speaking of which, I made a peasant top to go under my DD7's Alice dress (for our 1900 Park Fare breakfast). It's cute. I just haven't figured out what I'll put in her hair. She just had it cut for Locks of Love, so it's MUCH easier to manage! I thought about finding a black headband like Alice's (with a bow), but now I'm thinking I may just use a blue bow.

Also how does anyone have the time for all of this sewing?? I need some time management help I believe. Thanks--- Mindy

No way! Making my dd an Alice dress for that breakfast! We're going on the 2nd of October!!! You?

And I find it's best to throw boxes of cold cereal at my kids for nutrition and pop in a dvd for them to watch. How's that for time management? :thumbsup2

My mom would sew for me a lot when I was little. She was a real do-it-yourself-er.... I guess I come by it naturally!

Once I hit the tweens, I was such a pip about it. I'd see some trendy outfit that I wanted and my mother's comment would be, "oh, I can make that." We'd leave the store w/o it and whether she'd get to making it or not, I'd be disappointed. (What a brat I was!)

I have one story in particular, that greatly forms the way I think as a mom now...

One Easter, I was in 5th grade, my mom decided that I didn't NEED a new dress. I had a lovely one from the year b/f that still fit me (I only wore it that one time). It was the night before... and I just had a fit... I cried and complained about how all my friends would have a new dress at church and how I didn't want to wear the same one as last year. (Okay, I admit, I was spoiled!) Thinking back on it now, I was terrible!!!! The dress was lovely. I knew that I was going to be wearing that dress, but somehow I decided that the night b/f was a good time to pitch a fit and it made my mother feel terrible.

When I woke up the next morning, beside my closet was my Easter basket filled to the brim with goodies. Above it, hung an adorable dress, made from a collection of calico prints from my mothers cherished stash of fabrics. She spent the majority of the night making me a new dress to wear to church.

When I told my mother this story, about a year ago, she doesn't even remember doing it. She was so selfless of her time and of herself, that she didn't EVEN REMEMBER!! She did cry, however, as I told her about it. (As did I!)

That dress was a favorite to a friend of mine in school. She coveted it. I remember her telling me that she would sneak in my house one night and steal it, she loved it so much. My friend Karrie was from the wealthiest family in town. She had more clothes than I dreamed to have, yet she loved THAT dress!

My DD7 complains every time I ask her to try something on that I am in the middle of making. Even if our kids don't appreciate it or they take for granted that they have crafty moms (or dads), someday, maybe when they're parents, they'll realize how much love we put into the things we make for them!

OHHH! That was a great story! You made me remember something similar. My dad thought the Barbie Townhouse (this was back in the 70's) was way too flimsy (it really was a piece of crap!). And I wanted it so badly for cChristmas! So he worked in his workshop to build me a gorgeous wooden one with a cool elevator and all the furniture and details. I was SO disappointed it wasn't the plastic one from Mattel, I'm sad to say. I knew he worked hard on it so I pretended I wasn't bummed UNTIL all my friends saw it and wanted to play Barbies at my house....I hate that I acted that way!

These things really do shape us as adults! I'm sure your mother was very touched at your gratitude.

Okay first, that skirt is so completely DARLING!!! I LOVE Candy corns on anything...add Candy Corns to any outfit and BA-BAM it's cool!

second...seeing your cute patootie little one almost makes me want to have my own...almost...see I have this FEAR of childbirth...and toddlers...and teenagers...and what if I have BOYS?! ;)

seriously too cute though! GREAT job!!!:thumbsup2

Thank You!!!!

She IS cute, for the birth-control poster child (I am sooo kidding, I just think that when she's pissy- which is often)

I thought of a super cool idea for a halloween twirl skirt! Do it the 3 colors of candy corn and applique a candy corn onto a lycra t-shirt or do something candy cornish to a top. It's cooler in my head than in writing.

Ugh, I had 3 boys in a row, you have reason to fear! :dance3:

Amy, thanks for sharing, I could have written this, my mom was the same way too! She sewed for us out of necessity, back when it actually cost less to do it! I remember at one point it was everything but socks and panties, lol.

I too was a brat about it, and also the sweaters my grandma knit for me, they didn't look like the store bought ones my friends had. But the sewing my mom did always made it look like the latest styles as I grew older, and I was thankfull for that!

Now I've got 3 girls of my own, though my sewing for them is pretty much limited now to the youngest, with the occasional Easter Dress. My oldest dd (15) needed a formal this last winter, and she let me sew for her. We ran into a friend at the fabric store who asked why we were there, and dd said getting fabric for her ball gown, friend replies "Oh yes, you did tell me you were having it made." LOL, guess that sounds a bit better than 'my mom is making my dress'.

My mom passed away last year, and I know she passed a legacy on to me with her love and talent.

oh here is the newest pirate mickey! anastasia loved taking some pics for me!

Lori

Oh my, this is beautiful! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the red peeking out of the bottom.

Do you think I could get away with wearing something similar??? I bet I would end up on that "weirdest things you saw at WDW" thread! :rotfl: I am pretty sure that I could NOT carry off those boots at my age, much less the rest of it!

Terri

PS Thanks to the_seamstress for the tip on quoting using the smaller pic!:goodvibes

I was able to get just enough juice in my camera battery to snap a few pics and upload. Here is the Halloween set. Simple, but very cute on!

And this is a close up of what I call the semi-appliqued tee. I heat-n-bonded the candy corn, and instead of stitching around the edges, I placed rhinestuds to trim. I like the way it looks, and if it doesn't hold up, then oh well. It's probably only gonna be worn once anyway.

IMG_2779.jpg

Very cute! Are those hotfix rhinestones? I never thought about doing it to everyday clothes...I've got a hotfix setter that I've used on dance costumes for years. It's so easy, I really should do it!

I agree! This doesn't look to hard. Joann's has ready made ladybugs that you can stich on, you can buy the rickrack and flowers. My DD has a couple of dresses like this and loves them.

you can do it! (We need a cheerleader icon:woohoo: )

This is adorable! My dd loves the dress and wants me to make one, what pattern did you use?

I think she is in love with the blue floral and wants me to do a Lilo and Stitch :)

Thank you! The blue floral I just bought at Joanns it was part of the 1.49 quilting fabric sale. I didn't use a pattern for the top or the skirt. But bascially the top is a short pillowcase dress. I just kinda made it up as I went along.
