Hey Disney lovers!! I am so new here, so excuse some of my wrongful posts yesterday. I had a flood of PM's yesterday and I appreciate you all letting me know the specifics. I wasn't able to respond to you all, it wouldn't allow me to for some reason. I have to say all your enthusiasm for sewing and creating is very catchy! I enjoy seeing your creation.
We are avid Disney goers, holding annual passports and residing in Southern California. I got all amped up about fall last year and created my two girls these adorable pumpkin jack o lantern shirts featuring the infamous mouse!!! They are pictured in my Avatar on the side. When I am allowed I will post more pics of our visit of that fun trip! The decorating for the fall is insanely gorgeous! I hope to share more with you all since we are a "Disney" family and have been frequenting Disney atleast 6 times a year for the last 20 years!!! Keep on sharing your creations!!! I love em!

Angela, well not to be misleading, but you can tell us your e bay id if you just use "code" Hence we refer to "Voldemort" which means "the site which must not be named" or something close to that...which is really e bay. I have seen people say...search princess pink custom Mayr...and we all go and look and then get the sellers name. Hope I'm not breaking any rules being "misleading" or rather "leading" into disception:cool1:

I WISH I could do Disney six times a year!:sad2:

I made this today for the plane ride:

My monkeys are upside down but, whatever.

LOVE IT!!! Share, yes?

Umama-I actually have tears streaming down my cheeksright now. NO, I hadn't thought of it being Pooh Toile, just that someone (amiegee-mabey???) who said they have to try not to type in Toilet instead of Toile, only you would have made that connection. No, okay it was obvious, but I've had a trying day you know.

You be glad to know that little sister is not contracting and with any hope will wait till my rents come home from vacay tomorrow.

KAREBEAR1: alas, I've been knitting again...But I promise to start another project before I finish!!

...t.

Ok, here is the proof that I have lost my ever loving mind. It is in the 90's today here in Florida as it has been all summer and will continue to be until October probably. So I decide to make Megan a corduroy jumper, the prefect summer outfit. I really couldn't help it: it has pink and red flowers embroidered all over it and it was 50% off. So here she is:

Also, when I was taking the pictures she was sure all of you would be interested in her first wiggly tooth, so here is a picture of that:

Oh, I meant to mention I loved UtahMomma's skirt report! I think those things all the time in my head, but they rarely end up in the post. For example, I was using my seam ripper the other day thinking how odd it was that Teresa stuck it in her thigh when I stabbed myself in the thumb with it! I was so mad and it was so hard not to get blood all over everything when you are spouting from your thumb!

Oh, I have another question. When my mother was here inspecting my creations (well, she was watching the kids while we went out of town) she insisted that I need to attend a sewing class. Has anyone done this and is it worth it? I really like puttering around and doing easy stuff, I think if I learned real techniques it would seem more like work and less fun. Opinions? Thanks!

Love the picture of the wiggly tooth and the jumper. My dd, 6, has lost her second tooth and we take a picture of her after each tooth has fallen out. :rotfl: Where in Florida are you? Maybe we can get together to share patterns..and teach each other to sew...LOLL

AQUANET!!!! I love it. I have not thought about that stuff since I had mall bangs in the 5th grade!

You are right if you want hair to stay put that is the best!

Hey, I still have my mall bangs... I used to live in New Jersey and boy were those things really big...LOL...now mine are flatter....sort of...I threw away the curling iron, and tease comb...:rotfl:

I found the absolute perfect skirt for all of you non-sewers...
Run...Don't Walk....to your nearest K-Mart, and get this little skirt...
It was sooooo cute......

How cute would this be with a little white tee with a Minnie zebra appliqued on it....I love it...I would have bought one, but unfortunately, I knew I could make this...so I didn't grab it.

This just too cute. Love it ! Great job.

Thanks much!

Wow, great job!! What a cutie your DD is! If you can do a zipper, you can do anything! I have yet to try a zipper, myself.

Thank you! You know, the zipper actually wasn't that hard. I had three sets of directions; on the zipper package, in my sewing machine manual, and in the dress pattern itself. By far, the directions in the pattern were the easiest to understand and seemed the least complicated.

Both of these are great it's nice to see something different w/ the minnie dot! Also, I was worried about using the minnie dot on DD2 because it's so big...could you tell me what size your DD wears so I can compare. If she's the same size as lily then we're good.

I was going to do a spiral twirl skirt for AK... now I'm wondering if it's too "frilly" for AK. I know you gals like frill, but I don't want to get there and think boy I wish I'd made her jeans. What doya think? I wish you girls were here(although it'd get pretty crowded!!). Noone will help me choose patterns, I'm pretty sure they all think I'm nuts...But I've printed out pictures and laid out the fabrics and other than one outfit my DH liked (pirate mickey top w/ coins along the bottom and map on the jeans) which I now am thinking about completely changing to a layered tulle skirt and corset top. HMMM. My life was simpler pre this thread, when I just logged onto disneyshopping and ought some cute tees from the clearance bin and was done!!

Daisy is 2 and a half and 36" tall and maybe weighs 35lbs? The dress pattern is a 3, so the waist is a bit more dropped right now than I'd like and I also took the sides in an inch on each side.

As for a spiral twirl skirt, I'll be making that for DD8 for Animal Kingdom, so I think it's a great idea! :thumbsup2

tarzandra - I LOVE the dress you made! The little touch of yellow is a nice surprise.

Thanks, Celery!

Is that first one two piece or one? Those pants are too cute! Your dress is adorable! I love the idea of the turtleneck and pants!

It's three pieces, the top, the tie-on sash, and then the jeans. It's a little big because I kind of bought it for our Jan. trip to WDW so I asked her to make a 3T size.

Hey neighbor! We also live in SoCal and have APs to Disneyland! We're there about every week, maybe I'll run into you sometime :)

Ok, I just bought 8 Simplicity patterns at WM using my Joanns ad!   (notice the 3 bananas!) Five of them are Disney Princess patterns, 3836 Poodle skirt, 4163 That's So Raven tops, & 5522 for dd16 she picked out the pattern and fabric for PJ pants!

I think I've talked my mother into coming over tomorrow to hold my hand while I use a pattern to make the pj pants! Might not be a good one to start out with, so maybe we'll do something else, we'll see!

I also bought thread to begin my first applique project! I'm gonna start right after I put dd2 to bed!!!!

I bought 2 Simplicity patterns today at Joann's that have stroller covers...

Simplicity 4636

Oooooh, gotta add that to my list for tomorrow!

I love that fabric!!! It may be from overseas as I was able to fine some "Marie" aristocat fabric from overseas! If you find some I would love to know where you got it!

According to the item description, the fabric was made and sold only in Japan. Anyone know where to look to find Japanese fabric?

Okay, this is my first attempt at shirring. This is my DD8 with her shirred top with shirred straps :yay: There were issues which included laboriously taking out three rows of elastic thread which was almost enough to make me chuck the whole &(&%^*^(#@% project. But I did it and I like it. The buttons on the back and on the pants pockets are just for fashion, not function. Again, I plan to put a black shirt (not turtleneck as DD refuses to wear them) under when the weather is cooler. Oh, and the last pose was her idea and she begged me to take it and post it. And yes, she's a drama queen who takes theatre classes :hyper:

Great find Lisa. I was at Walmart today and bought ballerina style animal print flats for my daughter for $7.00. They were on sale from 12 something. They would match the last row of this skirt (a cheetah print?) perfectly!

I'm making these for my nieces and nephews-my 13 yo says she doesn't want one.
Have you seen the chalk cloth rolls? Basically, you take the cloth and back in a cute fabric and add ties. You can also add a pockets for chalk and/or an eraser. Voila, a travelling chalkboard. It ends up being the size of a placemat. I just ordered 10 yds to make a bunch for my nieces and nephews.

Anyone know a website or contact info for the Spring company that makes the Disney fabrics? I'm gonna find that Jasmine fabric if it's the last thing I do! I don't know where else to begin.

adorable.....

would you mind sharing why you had to take out 3 rows...I know it sounds bad but I seem to learn froms others mistakes....:rolleyes1

Does anyone have easy directions for sewing a tutu skirt. I've alredy looked at teresajoy's bookmarked instructions, but none really say HOW to sew it together. I think I could do the tie one, but how do you cut the strips? My thought is to make a sewn one with Grossgrain ribbon on top that ties around DD waist. Do you sew all the layers together then gather it? How many layers do I need and how many yards. My DD is 8 and wants it past her knees. Guess I could use any and all help you guys have!:confused3

I do the tie on ones that use the 6" tulle that comes in like ribbon bolts. What I do is
1. Measure waist to determine length of elastic. You can either stitch the ends together, or you can actually just tie it in a knot.
2. I use a piece of cardboard the length that I want the skirt to be. I wrap the tulle around the cardboard over and over again. I use about 75 strips, so I wrap the tulle around the cardboard 75 times, and then cut one end of the strips open.
3. I tie the strips to the elastic.

This method is very simple, and pretty quick.

Hey! The disguise idea is a good one! Yet, I just take the stuff out to my car and march right back in and get my set aside goodies and try to go to a different cashier!

A trip to the fabric store without a constant stream of interruptions? No one playing hide and seek under the fabric bolt racks? Not having to buy something you didn't want because your youngest wiped her boogers on it (this of course is reference to a FRIEND of mine :cool2: ). Not having to pretend you actually LOVE the Pokemon fleece and can't wait to create something out of it? Not having to re do the entire thread spools display?

Or you can mop the kitchen floor, of course. :rolleyes1

I got to go by myself tonight. It was lovely!!! We were all going to go but Sophee took a nappy and Hannah wanted to stay with her Daddy. I grabbed my super cute silver metallic Juicy Couture bag and was off like the flash. I feel so light when I do not have 17 sippy cups and diapers!

I found a pj pattern I can modify to make Hannah's Megra costume. I even found cute Greek trim. I am adding that even though it was not on the dress in the movie. I also found really great gold cording for my fantastic skirts.

Then I did it . . . I bought Christmas fabric!!!:scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Well I have a couple pages more to read and then I am going to do some organizing and watch the reruns of Monk and Psych. I missed them tonight because I was :surfweb:

For those that asked. I had seen these around I am sure I can find a few tutorials...
This happens to be one of my fav. blogs!
http://skiptomylou.wordpress.com/2007/04/25/on-a-roll/
http://nested.typepad.com/blog/2007/07/materials-you-w.html

But, I didn't really make mine like that. I wanted to include paper so I went and found a little notebook.

I cut out two rectangles 9"x15" but, you probably want to go by how tall your notebook is if you include one. If it is just crayons it can be shorter.

Sew all the way around (right sides together) except leave a hole on one side (to turn right side out & for the elastic (or you can put in ribbon/rickrack etc.) (You want the hole for the elastic more towards the top.) IF you forget to put the hole in the right spot I have heard you can use a seam ripper to open a little hole and stick the elastic in and overstitch. :lmao: OK that is what I did ha ha ha.

Trim corners and flip right side out. Iron (I know a pain ha ha) Stick in your elastic or ribbon and top stitch all the way around.

Turn up the bottom to create the pouch and stitch down on sides and the new bottom.

I used washable crayons that are a little bigger than normal but, not the giant ones. I stuck one in all the way to the side and stitched as close as I could leaving the crayon in. Mine ended up being 1&3/16" wide so I marked across for the eight crayons and stitched down. Stuck the notebook in and sew on a button and you are done.

My notebook is very small I think it was called a scratchpad or something.

If anyone needs more pics I can certainly do that.
