OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :scared1: I LOVE THESE HAIRBOWS!! Ok, I subscribe to this thread and constantly ooh and aah over everyones wonderful creations....but, I HAVE to know how to make these hairbows! I am SUCH a hairbow freak, and my almost 6yo dd is never allowed to leave the house without a hairbow! :rolleyes1 Someone help me, I need to get busy making hairbows! :cutie:

Any advice/help/guidance is greatly appreciated!!! ;) Would love to know how to make the super-cute flip flop bows too!!

TNMom - I love your nemo skirt! It's adorable!

I bought some tulle, but I haven't tried using it yet.
I'll FINALLY be able to sew tonight.
First time in over a week that I'll be home early enough.
And I'll have Jeanie on Saturday, so I can try everything on.

Oh yeah! I got my Brother embroidery card yesterday -
so I officially can do an Ariel embroidery!
Woo!

...do you think a patchwork twirl skirt would be hideous if it had one patch of each fabric I have, without any repeats... Would it be schizophrenic (again spelling issues) or neat? I have all kinds of cutie prints, orange , purple and black gingham, and tons of coordinating sparkly green and purple too.

I think that would be way too cute! I've also thought about the same thing using various Christmas prints!

I think it is so cute....the tulle makes the bottom look like water....you should sew some little nemo's or crush into the tulle...it could be like the current they were riding in...what was the name of that  ....(nemo was not a big hit in our house)

Thanks for letting me share!!

Which one of your girls will have the mop and bucket for the drool of all of the moms rushing to the front row??

I lucked out because someone posted a code you can use for a presale. So, you know me, even though it was for another state, I figured what the heck, I'll give it a try, and it actually worked...Yea!!!
Now if it was the Wiggles, I would be drooling, but Handy Manny, and little Einsteins just don't do it for me.
I am making the girls Little Einstein shirts, an maybe custom skirts... I'm using the iron on stuff for the shirts and so far, so good...

This is what I spent 6 hours on yesterday and I absolutely love it!!!!!!!! DD2 tried it on this morning, but my camera is crappy and I'll have to wait until dh gets home with the good one so I can show the massive twirl factor!!! Anyone else think that I need to use more tulle next time? This one has orange and turqouise and you can barely tell. I used four 52" strips of each color. Maybe it will show better with the good camera and you can tell more then.

I love what you did!

I did almost the same thing with some pink/black cat fabric from WM. Put it together, put 3 strips of 1.5 yd long pink tulle sandwiched in the middle. Then added two strips - mine are straight, not ruffled - 'cause I wasn't happy with the look. Still am not in love with it, but DD5's worn it 3 times already so she must like it. Maybe I'll strip off the straight edge and put on a ruffle. Nah, probably not. She likes it, and it was a demo piece, so I'm good. I've got loads more projects to work on.

I've got a 2-day trip to WDW in about a month, with my sister, who buys her kids (non-WDW) customs as a matter of course. And no customs for my kiddo. I'm looking at non-princess characters - Tinkerbell and Mary Poppins are the two possibilities right now. DD loves Rani (Disney Fairies) but I don't think anyone will get it...) and Peter Pan these days.

I'm also making school uniform bottoms. No joke! I'm in a *public* school with uniforms, but the policy on bottoms seems to be strictly restricted to length and color, so last night I finished a custom flounced 3-tier skirt - all in navy twill. b-o-r-i-n-g, but she'll stand out from the rest of the kids in straight skirts and plain polos.

I won't be online any more today!!

Ireland is 6 Today!!! so we're having a SpongeBob party..so I need to get ready...
Enjoy your day every one...Tomorrow we are off to Sea World...

Greetings all -

I'm making uniform skirts for my DD5, going into kindergarten. I'm certifiable now, I think. Pardon the uniform, but I don't want her looking like all the rest of the girls (and boys, for that matter) and I don't do the custom bow thing.

So...I just finished McCalls 4914 last night - someone posted this a few days ago with two pink Mickey fabrics.

It's a 5/8 hem on a completely bias edge. Not too surprising, it's rolling. Does anyone have any great ideas on how to stop this? I'd like to make the skirt - in a non-navy, non-twill fabric - again.

I love this .... I'm going to have to try one of these .... I love this fabric too. I've been wanting to buy it -- but I have spent SOOOOO much money on fabric this month.

I won't be online any more today!!

Tell IRELAND to have a HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!! Have fun at Sea World --- !!

(I have some questions for you but will wait til you get back)

I think I'm finally ready to get started on some sewing! I might as well do something with all this fabric I'm accumulating :rotfl:

A few questions:

Where is everyone finding the cute white tees to put ribbons on. I love the ones with a puff (??? I don't know what they are called! Where they raise a little and are gathered) on the sleeves, but can't find them any where.

My daughter is almost 8 months now and will be nearly 12 months when we go. I want to start sewing now, but I'm not sure what size she will be in. Do you think if I go with exact measurements and add an inch I would be OK?

Thanks!
Heidi

Hey Tiffany,
I'm glad you liked them! I actually got the website with instructions somewhere in this thread. It's: http://bowdesigns.50webs.com/index.html
It has instructions with color pics to make a bunch of different bows as well as how to make corkers. I tried them, but don't think I had a small enough dowel rod...back to the drawing board on those. The bows you saw are the "stacked bow". You need ribbon, hot glue gun, wire, and clip and you're good to go. I got the Disney bottle caps in the scrapbooking section of AC Moore. The Pluto and Tink bows are the basic stacked bow...and I put pics of a couple others I did below. I added an extra stack or two for the flip flops and the Mickey bow. The instructions are really good. I also made the loopy bow like the one below...very easy!

Does anyone know of a pattern for the skirt with the diagonal seams? Or did one of you make that up?

You can buy them on youcanmakethis.com (they're called strip twirl skirts or stripwork twirl skirts on there) or make your own--here's a good starting point: http://patternsthatfityou.com/frskirtcl.htm Then just change the dimensions based on DD's measurements and how many panels you want. :)

Target has some, but they'll be gone soon and are in limited sizes now. They're folded up on shelf display thingie. The ones in your DD's size would be onesies instead of tees. They're $3.99.

I've been on vacation for some time now and missed out on a lot of new creations, wow, you guys work fast ha!

I have a question for mammapooh or whoever can answer it! how do you do the fabric characters??? i know it was asked before, just can't find it now... please someone help... do you need a special machine??? My mom does all the sewing for the kids... thank's

OH my GOSH!!!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SKIRT!!!!!!!!! The bottom tier really makes it for me!!! It looks like the ocean rolling with the tulle over that fabric!! I can't wait to see it on your daughter!

Ok, here's what I've came up with using instructions from the net and my own algebraic calculations. Yes, I'm a math geak!

I will use dd6's measurements since that's the one in the pic that UtahMama referred to.

Waist 21" x 2 = 42 + 6" (for seam allowance) = 48" for 1st tier of skirt
1st tier x 2 = 96" for 2nd tier
2nd tier x 2 = 192" for 3rd tier

To figure length:
Measure desired length - 15" divided by 3 = 5 + 1" (for seam allowance) = 6
So, I cut three tiers that are 6" wide.

You could stop here and use this for solid strips. It takes 1.4 yards of fabric to do solid strips using the measurements above.

OR you could go on to figure for patchwork skirt...

Determine how many fabrics you are going to use. For this one, I used four. I want the patches 6" wide because 48" 96" and 192" are easily divisible by 6 and it's a good size to start with. Remember when you want your patches to be 6" wide to cut them 6.5" for seam allowance.

First tier:
48" / 6 = 8 patches *** I need 2 patches of each fabric

Second tier:
96" / 6 = 16 *** I need 4 of each fabric

Third tier:
192 / 6 = 32 *** I need 8 of each fabric

Now cut 14 patches of each fabric 6" x 6.5" (2+4+8=14) NOTE: When using prints that have a pattern you want to make sure that your pattern is the direction you want it to be. The 6.5" measurement is horizontal and 6" is vertical. You don't want Mickey lying sideways on your skirt!

For 45" fabric, this takes 13" of each fabric.

Construction:
Arrange your patches however you want them, and sew right sides together then sew end to end making three large circles.
Make elastic casing in 1st tier OR make 2" waistband and make casing in that. DO NOT add elastic yet.
Hem the 3rd tier
Gather 3rd tier and attach to 2nd tier
Gather 2nd tier and attach to 1st tier
Gather 1st tier and attach to waistband (if using one)
Insert elastic and let the twirling begin!!!!!!

Disclaimer:
I found most of these instructions on the net and probably from others on here, so don't go thinking I'm a genius or anything :rotfl:

This is probably confusing as heck, so feel free to let me know so!

That is so neat, I put it on the bookmarks site!! (link in my siggy and in first post of this thread)
