Okay, so does this look better to ya'll? It's with a different stabilizer and I think it looks better, so that might have been the problem. I havent done any but this one, so I dont know if it will keep working okay or not.

This is for Glendamax, so don't spill the beans! It's a secret.

My dd with Minnie. She REALLY wanted something from the Minnie Dot fabric so I quickly made this up while she was asleep to wear the next day.

Wow, I have been attempting making my first applique besides a heart or flower shape. I traced a castle out of a coloring book and then copied over to the "heat and bond" paper on the back of the fabric. Then I satin stitched over the tracing on the wrong side of the fabric. Then I zig-zagged on the right side of fabric in colors. It took a while. What do you think? The goal is to cut it out and applique it to a dress. This is my first time so please feel free to make suggestions! ;) Am I doing this right???? :confused3

I like your stitching and use of colors for the stitching. It looks like you did great work.
The only thing that I can think is I usually do the outline stitching after I've fused the cut out applique to my base fabric or garment. Was this a practice piece or will you stitch it to the dress in another way?

BTW - Wow, your castle looks a lot like a drawing of Cinderella's Castle I used as a source for the applique I did on this outfit. :)

BTW - I usually don't do such over the top ruffles but this was a special request for a little girl who is very much a pink and ruffles girly girl. LOL

You can't really see the back in this one, it had lacy ruffles-but it from the purple princess fabric.

Okay, I don't know if anyone completely answered you or not but here it goes...I've had my cs6000i for about 2 years now for doing the appliques I use the stitch number 04 (zig zag). On the right hand side of your LCD screen the Bottom number is the width of your zig zag from side to side the Top number is your thread density or how close your stitches are together...you will want this number to be like about .3 or .4 for a nice dense satin stitch. Experiment a little with a scrap of fabric alittle. Nana

Thank you so much!

You wouldn't happen to have the same eBay seller name would you? If you are the same my DD LOVES LOVES LOVES the Minnie overalls we got from you last year, she still fits in them.

I didn't realize we were in the same state too.

Thanks again for the information! I had a feeling it was something like changing the zig zag stitch.

Thanks! I tried to pick the little girl from the fabric that looked most like her! Her baby brother has a matching shirt as well! :) She told me she was going to wear it ... "all DAY!" I had to bribe her with chocolate to get it off!
Youre welcome.pixiedust:

That used to be my oldest daughter, now not so many ruffles, but still a very pink kind of girl.

This is a great idea with the t-shirt top! Looks super comfy and so cute too! I've always eyeballed that rainbow rick rack, but never could think of what I'd do with it...it worked perfectly on this dress! :woohoo: How did you do the gems on the top? And was it difficult to sew with the knit top?
These t-shirts were $2 a piece at my Wal-Mart -- I snagged 2 of every color! Re: the ric-rac, I was hesitant to use it -but now in the end - like it. The gems are BUTTONS -- found them at Wal-Mart with the buttons. Up close you can see the button holes -- they are on either end. I did not enjoy sewing the gems on. As for the t-shirt - this was my third time and with this one I ended up trying to attach it 2x. It's getting easier as I learn.

I'm so excited to share my next attempt.. then I'll need to go back and look at all the new designs! :)

Here's our epcot outfit!

I may have to borrow this idea. I have this fabric sitting here but I am waiting until I get a little better before I use it.

Outstanding as always.

Just a little note, when looking for Minnie Dot in Walmart, make sure you check *all* the shelves, not just the costume area. I was so bummed today when it wasn't there, but then out of the corner of my eye I spied a bolt buried in the 2.00 table!:woohoo:

I'm going back -- couldn't find it anywhere, but I never thought of checking the clearance section

She is adorable and the outfit is cute -- I see a bit of the bottoms -- do you mind sharing what they looked like?

Absolutely breathtaking. You are surely gifted in this area.

I must admit that I'm guilty of clearing out the regular red Minnie Dot at the Elkhart, IN store!

I feel better getting that off my chest!

Hey that is right down the street from me. But lucky you I went to the Grape Rd Walmart and cleared them out!!!! :cool1: Are you close to Elkhart? Or just stopping by?

I made a corset top today, and it's finished except for the bottom ruffle, but I'm so tired of sewing...LOL, I will have to finish it tomorrow..but here are the photos...

This is absolutely ADORABLE!!! Did you make it for DD - or eBay? I would love to watch the price climb if you list it!

Can you explain how you made the skirt on the dress? Or what pattern did you start with??? It's so cute!!!

I agree - I love the dress - and would love to know how you made it. I must have missed the original pic......

I should remember that equation! I am constantly trying talk sense into brick walls. I call him my father in law!! :rotfl: No, actually I gave up on that one YEARS ago! Just smile and nod, just smile and nod!
Was this at the Westnedge store? I went in there looking for elastic thread, and I was met with blank stares. Finally though, someone knew what I was talking about, and found it for me. I'm not sure they worked there though.
I THINK that THAT "yelling" incident happened at the battle creek Jo@nn's :sad2: ... thankfully, since I don't go there very often.
I go to the Westnedge store all the time. AND it IS TRUE! Most of us know more than they do, especially the second shift crowd (mostly teenagers, it seems). oh well. ... I've learned to just get patterns & supplies there, BUT get INFO elsewhere. It works. :) ... They get 2 stars.
The gals at Hancock's on portage rd = they can sometimes help point you in the right direction, at the very least. I give them 4 stars for good effort! :)

YES! MUCH BETTER! ...
See, I told ya = I could've been wrong about that arm-boo-boo :) I'm glad I was! ...

That makes all the sewing worth it!!! When they love it so much they don't want to take it off! DD wore the Tinkerbell dress I finished yesterday again to church this AM.:cloud9:

Another fantastic outfit! Makes me wish we were going to Animal Kingdom! Can you please tell me about the bottom layer of your skirt. Is it a completely different layer and is it attached at the waist? Thanks, I am trying to get my mom to make a similar skirt out of black and white material for our cruise.

Thank you, thank you, thank you....to all who offered to get me my fabric. I think I've got enough thanks to a couple of wonderful DISers!! I purchased some tank tops with sequined characters on from Kmart. They had Minnie, Ariel, Mickey and Tink. The characters are made of all sequins and hand sewn on (at least that is what it looks like). I has seen them a month ago for 9.99 and didn't want to pay that much. I went back last week and they were on clearence for $4. I picked up 3 Tink, 3 minnie and a Mickey. I am making customs for 3 girls and 2 boys for our tip in March! I plan to keep the Tink on the tank and make some shorts/skirts to match. I'ver already taken the Minnie off and attached with heatnbond ultra to a black tshirt. Minnie has a pink bow and will match the pink Mickey fabric from Walmart perfectly. Hopefully will have some pics this week to show you.

Hello talented sewers!!

I am going to attempt to try an applique!! I have a black mickey head ironed onto fusible webbing which I will iron onto the t-shirt. Should I also iron on a stabilizer to the front inside of the t-shirt? If so what kind?

Also - should I buy one of the dull needles to do this with or stick to what I have?

Thanks to everyone here I have finally learned how to thread a sewing machine that was given to me and practiced stitches all weekend!
