Question for all of you experienced sewers out there.

I have a t-shirt that I purchased DD with a very nice applique on it. It is unfortunately too small for her, (it was clearanced, so not too big a deal) but I really want to incorporate it into a new custom for her. (It's very unique, at least to me it is;) )

The t-shirt is a fairly heavy weight material, not too much stretch to it, but it does have some.
Do I try to be very careful and cut as close to the applique as I can and fuse it to the new fabric, and then stitch it on?
Do I make a panel out of it, and can I surge it to a cotton without it puckering? (never tried surging two different types of material together)
Or do I take the panel and fuse the whole thing to a piece of cotton to make it more "stable" to use?

It's the only one I have, so I just can't practice and then scrap it if it doesn't turn out.

Any and all suggestions will be helpful!

Thanks!

Why not (if the shirt fits but is just too short) make a t-shirt dress out of it? I did this with plain t-shirts and they came out great. I just ruffled fabric and attached it to the shirt so they had an empire waist and put ribbon over the seam. Really cute! After I get enough posts I'll show pictures of all of their outfits.

Hi Everyone,

I loved the pictures on page 600 of the appliques that LisaZoe did of the princesses. Does anyone know where the pictures went? Just wondering, they were so beautiful! Thanks!

OK ladies, I have found the next thing you need to go with your outfits, bows, jewelery, covered wipe and sippee covers

custom Stroller covers!!!!!!

Go to :wizard: type in custom stroller cover and you are off onto your next project! I can't wait to see photos!!:rotfl: :rotfl:

Dh and I have been hatching that plan for awhile! It's never come to fruition, but I guess now's as good a time as any!:rotfl:

All of the twirl skirts I've seen have 3 tiers. I was going to make an Ariel twirl skirt for DD but since the skirt will only be 12" long that makes 4" for each tier and you'll hardly get to see Ariel. Would it look okay to do just 2 tiers instead?

Great job!
What do you plan on doing for a top to go with the mickey swirl skirt? I have that fabric and I can't decide what to make with it yet.

I am thinking I will just get a white T and no-sew appliqué a mickey head shape on the front and embellish with some ribbon. I will probably also make me a matching T-shirt. And don't forget the matching hair bows. DH tried to convince me last night to make a twirl skirt for myself with the mickey swirly head fabric.:rotfl2:

nice skirt !
have you ever done a ruffle? I think this skirt is calling out to you to put a tink pattern ruffle at the bottom:love:

I have not attempted a ruffle, just the gathering on the other skirt. I too was thinking about adding a ruffle but we shall see....

Looks better than my first try! :thumbsup2
I find I get better results (less of the feathering look) if I try and go on the inside of the line instead of the middle. Just a tip. We should all be getting good at mickey heads, lol.

You could certainly just do 2 tiers. Also, keep in mind that the tiers don't need to be the same width so you could to a 6" tier of the Ariel fabric and 2 3" tiers if you wanted a 3 tier skirt.

I'm certainly an amatuer, but I do my ruffles just the same as the tiers on a twirl skirt just that the ruffle isn't as wide.

I love both your skirts and really like the crisp, clean lines of the second one without the ruffle. Great job on your first projects!

I love this thread! I also buy custom outfits for Disney!! I guess you would say I am a little addicted. Here is a pic of a really cute outfit I bought last year:

I recognize that pic from TGM! I am Roseanna13 over there but I don't post much, mostly lurk. I am in you Vacation club. I love that top outfit, so cute!

I have a Singer Esteem machine from Target. From what I can tell, the presser foot is the snap-on type. Do I have to buy only a Singer brand snap-on ruffler foot or will other brand snap-on feet work also? Thanks.

I have that same machine! I looked everywhere for a ruffler that would fit and had a hard time! I finally took it to a hole-in-the-wall sewing store and they tried all sorts of brands on it. The only one that fit was "A New Home" brand ruffler. We did have to bend the front thread holder up the slightest bit but it works great! HTH!!!
