I'm so excited to share my next attempt.. then I'll need to go back and look at all the new designs!

Here's our epcot outfit!

That is sooo cute! I love that you matched the face on the shirt to your DD and it looks as though she loves it too!

I made a corset top today, and it's finished except for the bottom ruffle, but I'm so tired of sewing...LOL, I will have to finish it tomorrow..but here are the photos...

This came out really well! The corset tops/dresses just look so sharp! Great job!

My dd with Minnie. She REALLY wanted something from the Minnie Dot fabric so I quickly made this up while she was asleep to wear the next day.

Can you explain how you made the skirt on the dress? Or what pattern did you start with??? It's so cute!!!

I started with a very simple sundress pattern, anyone would work I can give you the specific pattern # if you want. I really only used it to cut out the bodice and skirt. I decided to have the bodice fully lined so that the white top wouldn't appear too transparent., then I just cut out 2 skirts instead of one, figured out how long I wanted them to be and added the ruffles to the bottoms. It all took a bit of figuring out, especially lining the bodice and attaching the skirt to the bodice. I took pictures while lining the bodice so that next time I would'nt be so frustrated. I keep a sewing binder with samples and photos of techniques so that I can refer to them when I need too. You wouldn't believe how many times I forget how to line a bodice, or do a blind hem! Having something to refer to is so helpful.

I think the key to boutique sewing is using multiple coordinating fabrics and added details. Hope this explination helps you! If you have more questions just ask!

Okay guys, be gentle, I havent posted any sewing for awhile, but here goes.

Animal kingdom will never be the same.

That is bling on the shirts, and if you do decide to buy the princess things from the Disney Store, you might want to think about sewing them on. We ironed them on and they fell off a few days later. We did follow the directions... (ignore the blue paint, my dd dropped a bottle on the porch while they were painting )

Also, we made shoe bows to make our crocs prettier! And we even did them in pink, red, black and this color.

This is the first outfit I made for AK.

Jesse is appliqued, but not the best job...

Not too many ruffles here. I guess having older kids I have to go more with their likes. I'm still working on the pirate outfits and too many more.

They are going to be stylin' at Animal Kingdom! Great idea on the CROCs decorations! I like the redneck option of course.

Did you do Jesse's face all applique? Or is some of it painted? Pretty darn good, Eeyore!

I like your littlest dd's pose in the first photo! She's a natural!

Ok, I am up and rested. My foot is feeling better and not as swollen. My kids are running around getting into stuff they shouldn't be, so I can come here. lol. No, really the babysitter is with them - my son's computer and the Disney Channel.

LisaZoe, you need to offer sewing classes for us. I have flight privaleges (sp?), I can fly to you. Your outfits are amazing! DD loves your little girl's Ariel outfit.

I am going to buy a new sewing machine in a few weeks. I have been looking at the Brother/Disney machine, but I noticed someone suggested the Brother cs6000i. Which one is better for a complete novice like me?

I LOVE my CS6000i and I am a beginner, channeling my 4 years of high school home EC from *cough* years ago. I think for sewing purposes, both machines are really similar. But if you are wanting to embelish with embroidery, the Disney one is COOL...but you have to purchase separate packages for each character group (Pooh, Princesses, Classic etc) at $150 a pop. I figured if I need embroidery, I'd take it to an embroidery place and have a nice selection for a much smaller price tag.

The CS6000i has the easiest bobbin I 'll bet!

I think of ease in that context as a way to reduce the length of one piece to match the other but not enough to actually have gathers. For example often set in sleeves will have the fullness of the sleeve cap "eased" in to fit the armhole but the sleeve isn't intended to have a puffed/gathered top. I don't know if that makes sense. What is the pattern number and where is the ease? If I can see what it looks like, I may be able to explain a bit better.

It's Butterick 3860. It's an A-line dress and the easestitch is roughly 3 inches, one on each side of the chest just below the armholes.

I don't remember all posters names, but I know there were nice twirls skirts, twirl dresses (the really long one on the child with long blond hair especially stood out to me) and someone did what I've been thinking of doing- bows on the crocs! My family only wears Crocs in WDW so after I figured out the girls' wardrobe I'll get cracking on bows for the crocs (not that I intend to make them, lol).

Well UMama you talked me into the Brother 6000 Machine!!! I ordered it and will be picking it up later this week. I am totally pumped!!! I think with as much fabric as I have bought recently and now the new machine I could have had a nice couple day vacation at WDW!!!!!

I've been sewing away since I finally found this thread! I hope to post pics soon. With al the talk of the brother 6000 (or whatever number it is), I'm thinking I really want to get that machine! My machine is about 15 years old, and it works fine, but it is very basic. I'd love a machine that threads itself and has a drop in bobbin! All the stitches would just be an added bonus! If I keep up the pace, I think that I'm gonna ask for one for Christmas.

Do you think this is a machine that is easy enough for a teenager to use? I bought DD a Brother 2125 a while ago because I don't want her using mine...but now that she is actually attempting to sew (wants to do what mom is doing), her machine is having continual problems (guess that's why it was only $60 when I bought it)...I don't want to spend more than a couple hundred, but I want it to be something that she will have an easy time with. Also, does it come with a case?

Hey that is right down the street from me. But lucky you I went to the Grape Rd Walmart and cleared them out!!!! Are you close to Elkhart? Or just stopping by?

Hehe, I am in Southwest Michigan, pretty close to the border, about 30 minutes or so from Elkhart. I get down there a few times a month usually. There are quite a few of us around here, aren't there! I was in Mishawaka on Friday, and thought of checking out the Grape Rd Walmart, but I ran out of time. I did pick up some patterns at Hancock's though. If you were in Hancock's you would have noticed us, I had the two little girls that were running amuck as I ignored them and looked for patterns!

I THINK that THAT "yelling" incident happened at the battle creek Jo@nn's ... thankfully, since I don't go there very often.
I go to the Westnedge store all the time. AND it IS TRUE! Most of us know more than they do, especially the second shift crowd (mostly teenagers, it seems). oh well. ... I've learned to just get patterns & supplies there, BUT get INFO elsewhere. It works. ... They get 2 stars.
The gals at Hancock's on portage rd = they can sometimes help point you in the right direction, at the very least. I give them 4 stars for good effort!

Do you mean Field's Fabrics on Portage? They do seem to know more there than some. I hardly ever go to the Battle Creek Joanns, it's so far out of the way! (of the mall, that is!)

When I was in Hancock's in Mishawaka the other day, I asked the lady if the ruffler attachment they had on clearance would fit my Viking machine. She assured me that it would not, and that it would not fit my Singer either. She then tried to sell me a full priced rufflere for $30. My son and I decided to take our chances with the $7 clearance ruffler anyway. Guess what?? It works beautifully on ALL our machines! Even the Viking. I do think that the lady at Hancock's was just trying to be helpful, but she didn't really know what she was talking about.

My sister and I just bought the animals print that you have in this skirt. She is working on a twirly skirt with it I believe. I love the way it looks in these stripwork skirts too! Your daughter's all look so adorable! And, I love the way you decorated the Crocs! Great job on all these outfits!!

Here we go! Okay, Okay, I know these aren't Disney, but she'll wear these at Disney World so they're Disneyesque.

Hey, have any of you guys used these Iron On patch type appliques made by Wrights? I just put this one on a t-shirt for DD and am wondering how well the adhesive will hold.

Any one have any experience with these? I would stitch around the edges, but I am not seeing how to do that without it messing up poor old Eeyore, and his life is hard enough

I've used these patches and never had a problem with them coming off. Acutally, I tried to get one off once, and couldn't get it to come undone!

There are pictures in the bookmarks section, under tips and techniques. There is a link to presser feet instructions. It's pretty big, and scarry looking though, so you would notic it if you have it! There is also a foot called a gathering foor that is much smaller. There are pictures of that on that in the presser foot article too.

Ok, totally off topic here, but I just wanted to say:

OK, I was able to find the pattern front online. It looks like the ease is to allow a little extra room for girls who are "blossoming" but don't yet need darts. Here's what I'd do:

Match the seam edges from both ends (hem and armhole) up to where the ease stitching starts.

Pull the gathering threads so the front and back are now the same length. It shouldn't be a lot of gathering so just try to distribute the extra fabric as evenly as possible over the area.

As you stitch that section, you may need to hold the pieces behind the needle and in front so you can pull it taut. You don't want to stretch it but keep it as flat as possible as you let the machine pull it through for stitching.

It may take a few tries but you should be able to get it sewn without any tucks or gathers showing. If you can't, you can try trimming the hemline of the front piece just a little so you can keep some ease but still have a flat seam.

LOL, I'm afraid my tiny little sewing space is barely enough for me to work. Since I'm basically self-taught, I don't know that I do things "the right way" but it works for me.

Can I just say, WOW!!! That is adorable!!! Care to share your tutorial of that one too??

Well, I can say the bodice is created about the same as the corset top I shared. I shorten it, change the back to have elastic in casing instead of shirring and make the straps so they can button but otherwise they are identical. If you can do that, it's not too hard to add the skirt section... although I won't attempt to try to explain how I did the tiered ruffles because I need to keep some "trade secrets".
