Here are a few outfits I made---or as someone else said many pages back--outfits that I bought at Walmart and "pimped" up. For someone who has no sewing ability beyond buttons, I think they came out ok.

Sorry that my photos are GIGANTIC!!

Love the Cinderella. It's too cute!!

**Someone asked about older kids wearing boutique items. My teenagers will be! And so will I! I guess the only little one in our group is my nephew who is now 21 months (who will officially be adopted as our SON on June 28th).[/QUOTE]

I would love to see what the teenage crowd is wearing. My daughter and I would love to dress disney!!

:cool1: :cool1: I'M ALL CAUGHT UP!!! I was beginning to wonder if I would ever be caught up on this thread again! To everyone that I missed, there were some really incredible outfits posted these last few days! Great job!

And, I guess what my son was just doing?????? SEWING!!!! On his brand new sewing machine, bought for him in part, by his wonderful Aunt Heather! (hkite) We even bought a ruffler foot today at Hancock's, it was half price, so it was only $7!!! We were both really excited! I'm not sure what he's planning on ruffling, but it is fun to play with! So far, he has made a fabric shopping bag. We are trying not to use so many of the plastic ones. He also picked out a bunch of patterns at Hancock Fabrics today. (Where they only had TWO McCall's pattern books!) We'll see how he does. I will have to show him "Tom's" creations, maybe I can talk him into sewing for his sisters. :cheer2:

What is a ruffler foot?

This is the Tinkerbell that I was working on. It will be a panel added into a skirt, after it's finished. I wanted to get the face done first. Thanks to all that helped with the links to the embroidery sites.

oh i would so rather be sewing right now...my garage sale is not going well...3 of us on my road got together and put an ad in the paper and i thought yesterday was slow...today is worse...no one is coming and it is making my day tooooo long...we are supposed to be open til 5pm...we will see about that...i want to get started my the dresses for my girls so i can post pics...

BTW~to everyone's cute outfits that i just saw they are all so darn cute...i have to go back and read through some posts that i missed all of yesterday...

Read back a few pages. Tons of posts on the ruffler foot. It's a foot you use on your machine to make ruffles (any maybe just help with gathering in general?)

Hmmm - I figured it "ruffled" the fabric - but I guess I more wondered "how". I have been sewing long stitches and gathering for a tiered dress all morning!

Guess what I found today? The purple princess fabric!!!! I'm so excited. I bought 5 yards with not a clue what I'm going to make with it. I had to contain myself from getting the whole bolt especially considering what it goes for on ebay!!

I also found a red mickey head fabric and there was some of that denim blue mickey fabric someone was looking for a few pages back...If you are still looking for it, let me know. I bought extra just in case:thumbsup2

This was my first venture into a hobby lobby, boy was that fun. It's not convienent for me but definately worth the trip!!!

Hi everyone,
I have been doing some sewing today. I have to make a Spongebob, and a Bratz outfit for my professor's grand-daughters. This is the Bratz, it's done except for the bling I'm going to add to the top, just a few sparklies here and there.

i totally love the bratz outfit...my dd, who is 7 would love me to make something like it...but i have to clue as to appliqué...

you did a very fine job!!! LOVE IT...

Would you mind sharing where you got the applique for the pants?

Hi, I got the appplique at Walmart. They were in a circle on a panel meant for a pillow, I think. It was in the fabric section. I couldn't decide if I liked the blonde or brunette girl better, so I put both on. :rotfl:

I have a few appliqué questions for the pros :) I am appliquéing a Wiggles outfit for DD. I bought the appliqués from someone in Australia (if I am stuck in Ohio at least DD's outfits get to travel the world). There are several of them and it looks like they were cut from a sheet. The characters are cut out and they are all outlined in a light blue. What color should I appliqué with? I am putting them on a yellow polka dot top and denim capri's. I am using patchwork (in red, blue, purple and green) for the back of the top and the ruffles. They are also a bit larger than I thought (darn metric system will get me every time :rotfl: ) and my DD is tiny. I wanted to put one on the front and back of each leg, but she is to short and you will not be able to see all of the characters. Would it look silly to have say half of Cpt. Feather Sword? I need major help here. This is my first appliqué attempt and I am SCARED! I really want it to turn out great.

Thanks in advance.

Can you post some pictures? That would probably help.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Gotta love Napoleon!!!!!
I'm glad you got it! Napoleon is one of my all time favorite movies!
I downloaded them to photobucket, now let me give this a try.

DH's wonderful aunt made DD2 a Disney dress for each night of our trip. It was our fist trip and we had a blast. (I cannot sew at all).

This one she wore to HDDR.

OOOH, sorry it's so big.

ALL these outfits are gorgeous! I love the double border Pooh fabric dress! It looks great on your adorable daughter!

Photobucket makes it REALLY easy to resize your pictures for the board. Just click on "edit" above the picture you want to resize, then click on "resize" an option to resize it for message boards will appear, (along with some other size options) just click that ,and VOILA! your picture will be resized on Photobucket and on the boards. It might look to you that it didn't work when you check out the boards, but you probably just need to refresh the page.

There is a link to different kinds of presser feet in my bookmarks, there is a video on the Singer page for the ruffler foot. That's how my son learned how to use it.

Was the princess toille on clearance? Some Hobby Lobbies clearanced it around here. And, some didn't. I asked at one the other day, and the lady working was EXTREMELY offended that I would DARE suggest that fabric had been clearanced! Two of my local Hobby Lobbies told me that the fabric is still an orderable item, so it wouldn't be clearanced. They seemed to think the other stores just messed up. However, I'm thinking they just haven't gotten the memo yet!

Without actually seeing the designs ...
They already have heat-n-bond or Wonder-Under on the back of the design, right? ... assuming you do, just trim the design about 1/16" OUTSIDE the image (this is what will be covered by your applique/satin stitch) ... remove the paper, place it on the garment where you want it, move it around to see what you can and where ... IF you have to cut any off, gently tap the side you are NOT about to trim away (so you don't lose your placement), trim as needed to get it to fit right ... then finish pressing, satin stitch, press to smooth, done. :)
IF it were me doing this printed applique = I would ignore the background color "around" the edges of the design, since you won't see it after it's stitched, anyways ... I would use the same color of the "outline" of the image = like for instance if the drawing/image had a black outline, I'd use black ... that way it'll blend in a tad & help hide imperfections. .......... you COULD use the same color as the fabric you are attaching it to, but if there's a black outline to the image = the contrast of your stitches against that black will show imperfections in the stitching more, than trying to blend it in ...
That's how I did design ...

FOR THOSE THAT DON'T SEW or are NEW-TO-SEWING =
You can make this! Use Under-Wonder to attach the design, and then use clear fabric paint to seal all the edges :) Super Easy & Fun! You can even have the kids help.[/B]
+ you could TRY a bit of each & then decide. That might be best, if you're really unsure going into it :)! ... use the scraps from the part you cut off = so you don't have to rip anything out of your garment :)!
good luck! :flower3:

I love all the ones you posted! But this one gave me an idea as to what to do with a finished dress that is a little bit too big for Norah. Put ties under the arm area. Thanks for inadvertently helping me with my delema.

I dont know how you all are cranking out outfits left and right (UM !). It took a day for me to buy the fabric. A day to cut out pattern peices. A day to pin pattern on fabric and cut. A day to do the bodice. A day to applique. A day to do the skirt and a Day to put it all together. A day to take pics and upload. And since I have two girls...I gotta do it all over again with the second dress! :rotfl2:

Heyyyyy I saw that! I'm guilty of once in a while putting in a dvd to babysit  or working when the kids are asleep.

That is super cute!!!

Utahmama~ How is your daughter? :) She was feeling poorly a few pages back... maybe that was days and days ago by now.. :rotfl:

Why thank you! She's fine now. Back to her normal diva self.

How adorable! I love the outfit. BTW, how is she doing? From the pics, she looks like she is feeling better.

Yup. She's fine now. Thank you!!!

Way to go!! This is awesome --- you definitely are not a newbie. Norah looks tickled pink (or should I saw red with white dot!) I was telling DH about your new sewing machine. (Cough, cough . . . I have a birthday coming in at the end of the month).

I LOVE my new machine. It sews like buttah. Effortless and fabulous!

I think that's adorable and I totally love the Bratz outfit! I love that you put both the blonde and the brunette...I do the same thing when I can't decide.
I love everything you do!

This was posted a few pages back ... Links to HOW-TO's :)
GET RUFFLED ;)
how to ... use a ruffle foot attachment

Tips: Thread the needle before you put on the ruffler.
Be sure to check that the needle goes down into the hole before you stitch.
Check your thread tensions, it could just be that a thread is not threaded on the machine right ... Try sample pieces to check it's working right ... then with actual garment, Go slow at first :)
hope that helps ...

I found a quaint quilt shop with the most sumptuous fabrics! I wish you could feel these I picked out. Like a sateen, or a really high thread count sheet...very nice. They were 8.99-11.99 a yard so I only got exactly what I needed to do a couple pillowcase dresses. The ribbon I chose also has a vintage look to it in a cream color.

Oh, they don't look that special in these pictures. Pooh!

Watch out, you'll soon be unable to go back to fabric from Wal Mart and JoAnns. LOL That's what happened to me. I don't like to pay full price, though, so I've started collecting websites that I know will often have lower prices than most. I do think they are worth the extra, though, because they definitely seem to hold up so much better to wash/dry.

BTW - I love the Moda storybook print. The pink and brown are awfully cute, too.
