Kids Disney Boutique / Customs Clothes Part 2

I know the Cinderella dress you are talking about. I got the catalog about a week before we left for WDW. It is a good thing because I would have bought two dresses. One for the baby and one for DD3.

My brother and his family live in Baton Rouge and yes the weather is a little different than Maryland. Does the OE website run specials as well or is it in their boutique only?

Thanks for the heads up about the other brands. Every January I start stalking Marshalls and TJ Maxx for the smocked sun dresses. Funny they only get them in late January. I guess that is when the start getting in Easter dresses.

I'm sending you a PM!

Darn it that wasn't the right picture!! That'll teach me to preview the post first!!!

look what I just won on ebay for DH...I am going to make him wear it for his birthday at disney !!! Custom for the hubby...who 'da thought !!
I really like the red fabric! No family member is safe from this board's members :rotfl: . I'm waiting to see who posts the first custom pet outfit ;)

I made my son board shorts and they turned out well. I used Butterick 3475 (only because they were on sale last week) and they have an option for trim down the sides or a cargo style pocket.

Thanks for all the comments on my daughter's outfit. She wore it to camp today and got lots of comments: she was so pleased with herself. She told everyone, "Mommy sewed this for me!"
Oh, he'd love the board or cargo shorts. Thanks I'll check out the pattern.

I love that your daughter was so proud of her outfit!

I got some of these ( i posted it a while back) on clearance at Walmart for 3$- So that was a great find!! There were a lot of them, I thought about waiting to see if they were reduced further - but my luck they'd go to $0.50 and disappear before I got there.

But I plan on putting mine on some nappy bags I am making for a few friends for our disney trip in Oct. though I wish that pooh was the one I got for my MIL the only on ethey had was the one w/ pooh pulling his shirt down over his tummy in the mirror- I'm rethinking it. Don't want to seem like I'm saying she's round like pooh!:rotfl:
LOL. Bags...good idea!

It took me a second but I figured that out. LOL

Smocking Plates-

I think I may have hit the jack pot. I found where you can buy "Disney" smocking plates. I bit the bullet and ordered a few. I do not know how to smock but I thought we are going back to WDW in March so I have seven months to get it together. I have trouble sleeping so maybe this is something I can do at night.

I bought the princesses, the fairy godmother, peter pan, dumbo and the Wizard of Oz. They are $3.50-$4.00 each. I also bought the smocked fabric.

This is the link for what I purchased.

What a cutie pie! I love the shirt. It turned out great! Did you make your shirt yet? Sorry you had to wait so long for the buttons.

Oh the Mickey on the stairs is too cute. Did you do that with photoshop?

I'm going to wait to make mine for a little bit longer - see if I can shed a bit of weight first.

Yup - I photoshopped Mickey sitting on the stairs. You're the first (only) person to say something about it. LOL

Okay. It usually takes me forever to be happy with my own things. I am happy with the back... but I am considering ripping out the ruffle on the front...

(Please ignore my DD7's frizzy hair and odd expression....)

Here's the back:

Alicedressback.jpg

And here is the front. It's the blue ruffle under the tie that I am considering ripping out...

Alicedressfront.jpg

Very cute!! I think the ruffle is fine - I'd say let your DD decide! LOVE the ruffles in the back! Way too cute!

I won another smocked outfit on eBay today. I didn't really want a shorts set, but I loved this smocking plate and the shorts are cute enough. If I can't stand it when it gets here, I'll take it to a seamstress and have something custom made with this smocking plate and find another for the shorts set.

Anyway, I loved that it's not the typical Cinderella scene:

Adorable! I agree that you should wait - she may love shorts when she's 3!

Ok, I wish I was showing you both kids' pirate outfits but the sewing machine ate my son's shirt! I'll have to get another shirt and try again. I think the machine did not like the iron on I used to attach the mickey head to the shirt. At least I hope so because I have tried everything else to fix it.

My daughter is pleased with her outfit. The short ruffle is the creepy skull fabric that my son picked out for his shorts. You couldn't really tell that is was skulls, so we added a bling skull. I wish I would have added more tulle: I used a half a yard and then cut rough triangles so it would look piratey. I then sewed the scraps into the scrunchie. It was fun. Oh, and I altered a pattern for the first time! This pattern called for a zipper and I thought no way, so I made the yoke bigger and put elastic in the waist. Anyway, enough rambling, here it is:

100_1554.jpg

How fun! Sorry to hear your machine at your DS's shirt. Hope you're able to get the problem worked out!

Hmm...today must not be a good day. I was trying to finish up my shirt I've been working on forever & the sewing machine decided to eat part of it. In addition, I broke my seam ripper trying to figure out how to get the fabric unstuck from the machine (OK...probably not the smartest move but it seemed logical at the time!).

Bummer about the machine eating part of your outfit too.

Gotta run - DS is getting into my sewing stuff!! YIKES!

Will be back later to post the 3 shirts I got done today.

They also sell pre done smocking inserts that are completed, so you can just make a dress or top around that. I have thought of doing this multiple times!

adding on, I researched their website again, and don't see the pre done inserts as an option anymore. I contacted the owner to inquire. It was like 15 dollars for the Fairy Godmother insert. I am so hoping it is still available. I'll leet you guys know if they contact me!

Adoralicious! I love the pants that match! She's going to love it!

I am digging the smocked detailing. My DD has a few dresses. E-bay you say? Hmmmm.

Ok, my new friends! I went and bought a cheap sewing machine to tide me over till I can afford a new serger.... and a tube top dress, the fixin's for my Ariel costume, an Alice costume, AND, a pattern for a summer top and capris that I got purple Ariel fabric for. Plus all the notions and stuff for all these projects. Now, I'm quite rusty so we'll see how it goes. Wish me luck!!!! Y'all cost me a LOT of money today :rolleyes1 !!

:lmao: Oh, we have got you now! I can't wait to see what you make!

I show DH so many things on here he is trying to buy me a new sewing machine!! There are other things that we should be purchasing first though, but I think that is so sweet he wants to get me a new one

AWWW!!! That is so sweet!!!

I saw that fabric at Joanne's the other week VERY VERY creepy!!! Nice job on the outfit though!

Yesterday, I took the plunge. I went to JoAnns and bought a pattern and some fabric. My friend said she would help me sew an outfit for Madison. So I am off to her house. I hope it comes out ok. Madison is in Ohio with my in laws for a week, so I will post pics when she gets home. That is if the outfit comes out right. Wish me luck.

Yeah!! I can't wait to see it!

I got an e-mail from Hancocks.com today and they're offering free shipping with a purchase of $25 or more until July 27 with coupon code ELDD. Their licensed fabrics are also 25% off!! They've got all sorts of disney fabric, so check it out! The kid-type fabric starts on page 13, but they have all sorts of college fabric, too. Don't forget to search for "minnie dot" fabric if you haven't found any yet, it's $3.99/yard.

Yep, I drove all the way up there and the fabric department was gone. I did get a good deal on the bias tape ($1.00) and embroidery floss ($.10), which was on clearance.

I know what yah mean! Good thing my husband thinks I'm saving money by sewing clothes for my kids :rolleyes2 I'm about 1/10 of the way through your first trip report and it's Hee-hee-larious!!! :rotfl2: Please see the Mickey outfits I made for my son and husband if you want ideas for your sons and DH!

Thanks for the info on the sale Heather! I NEED more fabric, don't ya know?:lmao:

I just sent a stongly worded letter to the Wal-mart line.

What to do?

I cut out the top layer for dd's pirate tulle skirt. Its the skull and roses pattern. I had it lined up so I could sew up the sides and it was folded. Walked away to set up the sewing machine and 2yo dd grabbed the scissors and put an inch slice through both pieces. I wonder if I gather it enough to not notice. I was so pissed I screamed Almost gave dh a attack. In my fit I told hubby I was going to bid $120 on the on on ebay that I like lol.

Oh my gosh! I'm so glad she didn't get hurt! Could you try darning it together, or cutting out the piece with the hole, or maybe some patches?

hkite- THANK YOU for posting that Hancock info! I just went and bought some great Disney fabrics and 4 yards of the minnie dot... I think I'm gonna be making a Disney quilt for a new grandbaby due in January!

Congrats on the Grandbaby!

Utah mama... You are famous!!..well, in my eyes you are :rotfl2: )
I know, isn't it cool having a celebrity Diser amongst us!

I love my dh!! It was so cute last night he was walking with me through the fabric section while I played around. Suddenly he stops and says "This fabric looks like it would be perfect for a JOJO outfit!" And it was! I am so impressed that he listens to what I say and doesn't think I'm insane.:rolleyes1 It's ironic, he has a better feeling for what matches than I do :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

AWWW, how sweet! And, I don't think I congratulated you on your baby before, so CONGRATULATIONS!!! I would SOOOO LOVE a fourth baby!

Several of you mentioned you wanted to see more examples of the custom autograph albums I make like the ones I posted last week. For whatever reason, when I logged in today, my PM box no longer had many of the messages I was saving:confused3

Anyway, I PM'd the link to everybody I still had messages from or that I remembered wanted the link. If I missed anybody, please let me know and I'd be happy to send it your way. I'm so sorry about that, I have no idea what happened!

It's been a while since I've been on the boards, I've been pretty sick:sick: I have A LOT to catch up on! So far, everything looks great everybody. Keep up the fantastic work!!:thumbsup2
I hope you are feeling better.

look what I just won on ebay for DH...I am going to make him wear it for his birthday at disney !!! Custom for the hubby...who 'da thought !!

Oh, I love it!

Orient Expressed is still doing Disney and I'll ask a Beaux et Belles rep if they know if they'll be doing them again.

I think OE just does one Disney design a year, though.

Here's the link to Cinderella. I think it's one of the most beautiful I've ever seen:

Now, why did you have to go and do that????? HUH??? Now I NEED those, and I have absoluely NO IDEA how to smock!!!:lmao: :lmao:

Now on to this fabric: I found it today at Walmart for $2. DS fell in love with it because it looked like camo and because the ghosts reminded him of Oogie Boogie. He doesn't like "camp" style shirts, but wants to wear something with it for Halloween and wants me to make him a pillowcase out of it. Any ideas? I'm not very creative...
IMG_2628.jpg

I bought this fabric too. I'm going to make my boys pants with black cargo pockets and then black tees with the ghost on them.

I LOVE this dress and sweater set! You totally have my taste! Those brands as well as many others...bet the ones you didn't put down are some of the ones I also like.;)

The long awaited photos of creepy boy! He said he likes his outfit but not enough to wear in public: only at Disney. He did sleep in it tonight so I think he likes it a little (or he is humoring me). Look, I made a matching shirt for DH too!

After Stephres posted about the cargo shorts that's exactly what I thought about doing (except shorts...it'll be Dec or Jan before we need pants around here). So please don't think I was ripping off your idea. I know yours will be lots better anyway :)

Probably so! You should PM me the brands, though. Just in case, though ;) .

I'm going to a see the fall line of Castles and Crowns this week and I'm really excited except I'm so broke from buying material and sewing stuff. I really do think I'm ordering the Cinderella dress for her birthday. I will probably pass on the sweater because she wouldn't get to wear it much.

Just had to show you how cute the shoes turned out. Thanks again for letting me know where to find them!

I had a little shirt and hair bows made as well (bought off ebay - I don't have a crafty bone in my body). I am also having a little Cinderella dress made as well - I'll post once I get it :)

Someone had posted about looking for short overalls. I saw some at Target this week and I believe they were around $5.00. I think they were for girls but if you were going to be putting patches or stuff on them, you could probably cover up the small flowers they had on the bib.

This is great! I don't think it's that creepy. Then again I love Pirates of the Caribbean! Your son looks great and you did a great job on the applique and the shorts.

Don't ya know I can't sew to save my life, yet I bought a bunch of Minnie fabric. And Ariel fabric. And princess fabric. Got me some Toy Story quarters off ebay for DMIL to put ruffles on a pair of capris. Also bought some embroidered Toy Story patches for the legs. Gave it to her over a month ago....got back....nothing! Hope she gets the Toy Story done before our trip. Decorated a pair of red Walmart Converse style high-tops with magic markered Minnie heads and polka dotted ribbon in with the shoelaces. DD4 thought she would be cute and used my white fabric paint to fix em up good. Oh well, most of it came off. Now, there is no need to even think about sewing anything because I have bought an embarrassing amount of customs off ebay. Not the really expensive ones, thank goodness, but they definetly do add up. I actually stalk a few sellers to see what new material they have. Probably bought a few from some of you all on ebay, umm hmmm. I'm definetly going to end up with more than the number of days in our vacation. But, there is actually a point to my post, believe it or not. I was wondering, with all of these beautiful custom outfits your adorable kids have to wear each day at WDW, do you still dress them in costume for character meals, or just stick with the customs, cause they're cute and different and cost a lot (of time and money)?

Would you please pm me this sellers info.?

Ok...I dug around in the sewing room and actually found the Ruffler attachment thing....had it probably a decade and never used it, lol. But.....I spent a couple hours playing and I think I got it down. BUT....I can't figure out how to calculate which of the settings to use to make the pieces of the skirt fit together :lmao:

I've got Simplicity Pattern 4106...originally bought it for the blouse, but it's the skirt that I'm trying to do. Pattern pieces are simply 6 rectangles of various length, all just over 5" wide. But, the instructions don't talk about using a Ruffler of course....they tell you to do the basting stitch and pull it up to gather. But I hate that method, it's always such a pain in the butt to get the gathers evenly spread. The Ruffler is so perfectly even spaced. But do I set it on 1, 6 or 12 to get it to ruffle so that tier one fits tier two which fits tier three all the way down to tier 6?

So, does anyone use a Ruffler and care to give me a crash course in using it? Pretty please? We leave next week for a short business trip and the girls begged and I gave in, and this skirt is fish fabric and a coordinate they picked out for our trip to the Aquarium. Cute cute cute, if I can just figure out how to Ruffle.

Thank you!
Jan

Ok does "plate" = pattern...My mom use to smock a long time ago...Now I have a baby girl and I keep pushing to her to get back to it. I'm thinking if I buy these "plates" for her maybe it will encourage her.....So what exactly are plates????? Will they be useful to her? What does a smocker do with these?
I'd call her and ask her but it's late and she'd think I'd really lost it.....I'm clueless....I usually spend way too much on smocked outfits and then tell her that she NEEDS to start smocking again;)
