Kids Disney Boutique / Customs Clothes Part 2

At least you have someone to sew for and to wear your obsession!! I spent most of yesterday at fabric stores buying up what I could find- and my baby is 24 years old!! I'd try to make her one of these outfits, but I just don't think she'd go it! :lmao:

True, that does make it a little easier although 3 of them are boys. I can't do nearly as much with the boys as I could have done for DD if she was younger.

At least she's involved in my obsession -- it's a dangerous thing to send us 2 together into any fabric store. I can resist the temptations by myself with her, forget it...we talk ourselves into more fabric. She finds the fabrics just as much as I do, usually after I've decided I'm done & then she'll spot something else. *sigh*

I think last time we went, I was going to get some tracing paper & elastic -- 4 hours later we returned home with only a *small* amount of fabric that time around compared to usual anyway. I'm getting better only because my closet is overflowing with fabric & I figure if I don't start making stuff, I might overextend my DH's generosity with the new obsession. :lmao:

I got an e-mail from Hancocks.com today and they're offering free shipping with a purchase of $25 or more until July 27 with coupon code ELDD. Their licensed fabrics are also 25% off!! They've got all sorts of disney fabric, so check it out! The kid-type fabric starts on page 13, but they have all sorts of college fabric, too. Don't forget to search for "minnie dot" fabric if you haven't found any yet, it's $3.99/yard.

I finished an outfit yesterday! I have had such a crazy summer that I haven't gotten any sewing done so it feels really good to have this outfit totally complete!

It's so cute, great job!!!

I didn't know they closed the one on Gull Rd!
The one on 9th ST is suppose to be getting the fabric back. At least that's what the lady there told me. She said that they got so many phone calls and emails that they decided to send them more fabric. So, they do seem to be listening. Even if your fabric department isn't closing, call and email anyway! let them know how we feel!

Yep, I drove all the way up there and the fabric department was gone. I did get a good deal on the bias tape ($1.00) and embroidery floss ($.10), which was on clearance.

Y'all cost me a LOT of money today :rolleyes1 !!

I know what yah mean! Good thing my husband thinks I'm saving money by sewing clothes for my kids :rolleyes2 I'm about 1/10 of the way through your first trip report and it's Hee-hee-larious!!! :rotfl2: Please see the Mickey outfits I made for my son and husband if you want ideas for your sons and DH!

Ok, I wish I was showing you both kids' pirate outfits but the sewing machine ate my son's shirt! I'll have to get another shirt and try again. I think the machine did not like the iron on I used to attach the mickey head to the shirt. At least I hope so because I have tried everything else to fix it.

Yikes!!! Did you at least give the machine a kick to show it who's boss? At least your DD's outfit turned out adorable! That is some freaky skull fabric, but she's cute enough to pull it off.

What to do?

I cut out the top layer for dd's pirate tulle skirt. Its the skull and roses pattern. I had it lined up so I could sew up the sides and it was folded. Walked away to set up the sewing machine and 2yo dd grabbed the scissors and put an inch slice through both pieces. I wonder if I gather it enough to not notice. I was so pissed I screamed Almost gave dh a attack. In my fit I told hubby I was going to bid $120 on the on on ebay that I like lol.

This is for my 6 year old niece, Blayke to wear on her Christmas trip to Disneyworld! I kept it pretty basic. You can't see the detail very well, but the neck and arm holes are lined with rick rack.

Fabulous!! LOVE it! I am a sucker for the traditional red/white polka dot!

I won another smocked outfit on eBay today. I didn't really want a shorts set, but I loved this smocking plate and the shorts are cute enough. If I can't stand it when it gets here, I'll take it to a seamstress and have something custom made with this smocking plate and find another for the shorts set.

Anyway, I loved that it's not the typical Cinderella scene:

I love the traditional smocked stuff. The bow is a great touch. I sure hope you'll have pictures in the park of her wearing it!

Ok, my new friends! I went and bought a cheap sewing machine to tide me over till I can afford a new serger.... and a tube top dress, the fixin's for my Ariel costume, an Alice costume, AND, a pattern for a summer top and capris that I got purple Ariel fabric for. Plus all the notions and stuff for all these projects. Now, I'm quite rusty so we'll see how it goes. Wish me luck!!!! Y'all cost me a LOT of money today :rolleyes1 !! [/QUOTE]

Be sure you share what you make!!

UtahMama, I read a lot of your posts last summer/fall as we were planning our trip last year. You may not remember me, but "hi"!

You're lucky! I'm going to take a smocking class in the fall. Pretty much everything she wears is smocked. I know I wouldn't be able to make lots of outfits, but it'd be nice if I could make her something special now and then.

I don't remember your Cinderella. I'm going to go look for it :)

Yes, I am very lucky to have a family member that smocks. She did a few things for my son when he was a baby (coming home outfit, outfits for panel pictures, etc.) and she has done all of my DD's church and Easter dresses. She is soooo affordable b/c she gives me a family discount that I have never learned to do it.

Here is the Cinderella dress she did for Easter:

Not sure if you can really tell (since it's not laying flat) but that white circle is the face of a clock that is striking midnight and just to the right of Cinderella is the shoe that she lost smocked in silver.

I paid about $30.00 for this dress and matching bloomers. It is made big enough that she is going to get a lot of wear out of this dress.

As far as Disney smocking plates go, I have seen very few on ebay. I looked everywhere for one when I was looking for Easter but didn't have any luck.

Hope this isn't too much to ask--- How do you smock??:confused3 What are plates??:confused3 Could someone please explain the whole thing to me:teacher: ?? I have no idea and would love to know how it is done. Thanks:goodvibes !!!! ---- Mindy

hkite- THANK YOU for posting that Hancock info! I just went and bought some great Disney fabrics and 4 yards of the minnie dot... I think I'm gonna be making a Disney quilt for a new grandbaby due in January!

Hi! I have some pictures to show too, but I have to post a few more times before I am able to post pics and links. I'll be back soon to show my overalls :)

Please remove the link to the commercial site/ebay store from your signature. It is against DISboard guidelines.

You can just do a post countdown right now if you want. That way you don't have to wait till you think of a bunch of clever stuff to post before we can see your pics.

Kinda like -

6 posts to go

5 posts to go

4 posts to go

etc.

Can't wait to see your stuff. Now that I've got myself started sewing I am really excited to see everyone's great stuff.

Hmm...today must not be a good day. I was trying to finish up my shirt I've been working on forever & the sewing machine decided to eat part of it. In addition, I broke my seam ripper trying to figure out how to get the fabric unstuck from the machine (OK...probably not the smartest move but it seemed logical at the time!).

So...I've given up on this shirt (at least for a while) which is probably a good thing -- there are TONS of mistakes (I had accidently cut the fabric when I was triming the seam on the blue layer in the middle, so had to sew it weird to cover the hole.. :rotfl2: ) So basically this was my learning shirt. Unless I can figure out how to mend the hole. I was sewing on the dalmation patches (they are ironed on but they needed to be sewn on so they don't fall off). You can't see the hole though as it's the one on the right.

You have to ignore the one side up higher than the other in the shoulder...believe it or not, that's not a mistake (considering everything else). My DD has scoliosis so she has one side that is higher than the other...it looks normal on her but looks weird on the hanger. We had to do a lot of modifying on those 2 to get it to fit her correctly.

Anyway -- Here is the "I almost finished it" version. The last bit was we were going to add Cruella to the top part. I had posted it previously before sprucing it up. I figure maybe it will give some others ideas at least.

Adoralicious! I love the pants that match! She's going to love it!

I am digging the smocked detailing. My DD has a few dresses. E-bay you say? Hmmmm.

Utah mama...what in the Sam Hill are you doing over here on this thread...I almost spit out my soda!!! Yahoottyyy:cool1: Welcome to the sewing thread!!! I am soooo excited to see you here...are you going to make something???? Love ya!
(uhhhh you probably dont remember me but I loved reading your trippies! You are famous!!..well, in my eyes you are :rotfl2: )

I love my dh!! It was so cute last night he was walking with me through the fabric section while I played around. Suddenly he stops and says "This fabric looks like it would be perfect for a JOJO outfit!" And it was! I am so impressed that he listens to what I say and doesn't think I'm insane.:rolleyes1 It's ironic, he has a better feeling for what matches than I do :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I know it stinks, but sometimes you have to just set something aside and start a new project. Once you succesfully complete something else you will be in a much better state of mind to look at the top you are having trouble with and decide whether or not it is worth salvaging. I have had a few things that I have just trashed eventually. Sometimes it just doesn't end up the way I pictured it.

Good luck!

Yes, I'm thinking -- time to deal with the Land of Misfit toys fabric I have for Christmas (I should start now -- it might take me to Christmas to finish it. :rotfl: ) & I would like to make something for at least the boys for school, maybe just the 2nd grader. Although, I've talked to DD about picking out fabric for a shirt or something for the 1st day of school. Who knows.

I was just trying to finish up *something* Disney. I've also got another project in my head to make the little guy a Prince Charming shirt but that will probably wait a bit as we don't have a trip officially planned at the moment.

Several of you mentioned you wanted to see more examples of the custom autograph albums I make like the ones I posted last week. For whatever reason, when I logged in today, my PM box no longer had many of the messages I was saving:confused3

Anyway, I PM'd the link to everybody I still had messages from or that I remembered wanted the link. If I missed anybody, please let me know and I'd be happy to send it your way. I'm so sorry about that, I have no idea what happened!

It's been a while since I've been on the boards, I've been pretty sick:sick: I have A LOT to catch up on! So far, everything looks great everybody. Keep up the fantastic work!!:thumbsup2

I'm sure you learned a thing or two while making it, so don't think of it as a lost cause. BTW, I have been known to use my seam ripper in the feed dog, too!

I think it came out pretty cute. Honestly, I don't think its bad at all. So you learned a few things along the way and the next project will be that much better because of it! ;)
