Ok, I've made serious progress on my Donald overalls. I'm thinking I'll add "DONALD" to the back along with blue polkadot pockets? I'm not sure, but I do know that it will be a while before I attempt another pair of overalls!! And I have two more to make before December!! I had to do most of it by hand since my machine gave me fits. The hardest part was stitching down the "applique". It's actually an embroidered scrapbook sticker and it was a HUGE pain (literally!) to stitch down by hand.

Any idea what this could be? I put in a heavy duty needle but everytime I tried to sew, the thread would skip. Make sense? It just wouldn't sew an even seam, then it would come unthreaded. Any tips would be appreciated!

And here are some bows that I've made for a friend. She gets her ribbon from ribbonspot.com and it's really nice quality stuff. I've become pretty handy with the bows and I'm loving it!! The Ariel one is for dd2 to wear with her Sebastian/Flounder pillowcase dress.

Here's a halter dress that dd2 had in her drawer. All I added was the gingham minnie and green bow. I love this! I used an old-fashioned method of appliquing which involves a dryer sheet! This was stitched on by hand, this was done before I learned how to use my machine.

And lastly is a denim skirt and pillowcase top that I made for dd8. But here's the bummer, the top is too small and the skirt is too big :sad2: I made these while she was at her Granny's and thought I would surprise her when she got home. I guess I've learned my lesson about measuring! Don't know what to do now! I guess dd2 can wear the "dress" and I can save the skirt for dd8 to grow into. I have some of the material left over so I can make her a bigger top to grow into along with the skirt. The "appliques" are just on w/Heat'n'Bond but not stitched. I'm not fooling with denim stitching for quite a while!

Wow I love those Donald overalls. Sorry I am not sure what your machine is doing. Is the thread breaking? Maybe you could try a heavy duty thread and use less tension.

The bows are great too.

Everything looks great.

Wooohoooo! :woohoo: The Donald overalls are awesome! Very different too...a nice break from all things Mickey (even though I never truly tire of the mouse).

For the Donald, I would have glued it down. I use E6000, you can find it at Michaels, JoAnn's and Walmart. I use it for all of my fabric embroidered stickers and they hold through the wash. It dries pretty quickly, and no sewing involved!! :rolleyes1
Give it a try sometime...
I love the overalls... my dd loves Donald too, but I haven't tried to make anything...

Hi. My machine was also "skipping threads" everywhere. I was panicked as it is new and so am I at sewing. I read the book (Singer--- pretty basic machine) and it said that I may have the needle in backwards. I turned the flat side of the needle to the back and reinserted it like the book said and have had no more problems. Maybe this is whats wrong. It was for me. Hope this helps.

I remembered you used one on your Walmart dress and was going to ask you about it first, but I thought "nah, I can do this"... Well, two needles and three bandaids later, I decided I'd ask you before I ever attempted another one! I will remember the E6000 next time!!!! Where would I find it at Walmart?

I think you're work is brilliant and the fact that you commented on mine just makes my day!!! Thank you!

How simple!! That might be the problem since I had a hard time getting it to stay in place while I tightened it. I'll definitely check that, then try heavy duty thread and loosening the tension.

Brilliant...:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: You're so funny...silly...
I sew way too much, and think about it even more so.
At my Walmart, the E6000 is near the glue in the craft section, near the Aileen's and the fabric paint. It's in a little blister pack and looks like a tube of toothpaste. Be sure to look up, because it's usually hanging. Just be sure not to use the little pointy tip that goes with it. I tried it once, and thought wow, this is great, and then I saw that E6000 isn't water soluable (spelling) and you can't rinse it out (the tip). So just punch a small hole in the end of the tube, and just smear it on with the end of the tube or your finger. It's kind of like elmers glue when it dries. If you get it on your hand or fingers, just rub them together and it will come off. Don't wipe you fingers on your dishtowells or papertowells because all you will wind up with is a finger full of glue and lint from the towell. :rotfl:

I could just see it now! That would definitely be me! Or else, I'd be walking around with the towel stuck to my hand! :rotfl: Dh wouldn't think anything of it, he'd probably just figure that I'd sewn my finger again and a bandaid wouldn't do the job!

I added some bling bling to my AK Mickey shirt. I also made a belt to match. And when I say I made a belt, I just cut a strip of the fabric and put it through the belt loops. It's really generic, but if you don't look too close it looks cute!

I like your bling! Nice alternative to a bow! Wait a minute, weren't you worried about attracting too much attention to your girls? :lmao:

OK, I have been having an insane day, but seeing that pattern just made me laugh so loud my kids think there is something wrong with me! LMBO, that is hilarious, thanks for the laugh Teresa!

OK, you ladies have been really brutal today about the pictures...I know I said noon but my kids have been making me crazy! :upsidedow Here are a couple of pictures of the outfit:

(PLEASE do not copy my pictures of my DD...I am firmly in the camp that the pictures of our children that are being shared here should stay here. Not trying to be mean or start a huge discussion, just asking for your consideration. Thanks for understanding! :) )

So let me know what you all think, I gotta tell you this one of my favorites out of my recent designs! Minnie ears and bows, small world/epcot...all wrapped up into one outfit! I have struggled with what to put on DD when we visit Epcot and I think this will be perfect!

Dena

FANTASTIC, Dena!! LOVE it!

I have taken the plunge and attempted a more intricate applique! I have finished Alice, but need to add the teapot and teacup!! I'll post soon.

Your daughter is a doll, btw!

It looks like the "girls" are still in it!! LOL....

Isn't this thread about making customs for our girls anyway? :rotfl2:

Your tanks are great! I can make something like that for DD11. That's her style! I may have to worry about her girls too. She's thinks it's funny that her girls have outgrown mine:rotfl:

I see that you're doing the Mickey next year. I'm signed up for the Donald but have I trained lately? Nope! I'm either on this board, sewing, or at the fabric store during my free time. I have to get moving soon though. January will be here before you know it. Keep movin' forward! :thumbsup2

I'm officially addicted now. I made myself a shirt to wear to the Animal Kingdom.

Do you think I should add a Minnie Mouse ribbon to it? I don't know why, but I'm not in love with this one.

Awesome job, Krista!! I wouldn't change a thing!!

I also want to know where to find my own "Jack Sparrow"!!!! hehehehehe.:rotfl2:

I bought mine at Coconuts Music. They had two different ones of Jack and then there was one of Will too, but he's a tad too young for this mama. :lmao: They were $30 a piece.
