Hello Everybody!:cheer2: :cheer2:

I am Alicat99's Mom and I wanted to thank you for all your nice comments regarding the Mickey Dresses I just finished. I am hoping to get that dress as well as some of my other designs up on Ebay this week. There are little boys shortall and matching capri sets for girls. One of them is a really cute Pirate Mickey with the treasure map fabric. Thank you! Again, NanasCustomCreations princess:

Now, here is a close up of the second dress:

Can you tell a difference? I feel like the second dress is not "filled" in all the way with the Minnie Mouse wording. I contacted the seller and she said that the second one is a tighter embroidery because the bigger dresses are heavier and the machine pulls a little harder to do the embroidery. I don't know anything about embroidery.

Does it still look okay to you?

I have the same machine that your seller used to make the Minnie applique. She could have made the tension looser so the stitches wouldn't pull. I would ask her for a partial refund. She should have remade it, or adjusted it, when she saw how it was stitching. Those embroidery machines aren't perfect, but you can definatley make adjustments.

I think it still looks good! I do notice a difference but wouldn't have it you didn't point it out! I have almost bought that dress several times. If you like it maybe I will buy it!

I've been watching these. I'm hoping to get a couple because I love them. I LOVE smocked dresses on little girls. Someone on here mentioned another source for Disney smocked dresses. I tried to pm but never did get an answer. If anyone knows of other places to get Disney smock outfits please fill me in!!!!

These aren't customs and I didn't make them. I bought them off Ebay, they are somewhat limited. They're by Wish Upon A Star. Gracie may or may not wear these at Disney but she'll also wear them a lot at home.

Teresajoy made my daughter (Tessa) and her 2 girls (Arminda and Lydia) these adorable tutus!!

Arminda, Lydia, and Tessa in their tutus, pretending to be sweet little angels:
They are so cute - I have to make one!! How many layers of tulle did you use?

On Lydia's, (the middle one) I used four layers, the others are two. I just love the way Tessa's turned out! I don't think I will EVER try the tied version again though! I think it's harder and just isn't as cute.

I bought 32 yards of tulle, and used most if it up on the three outfits. Although, I waisted quite a bit on Arminda's, because I made it way too long and had to cut off a lot.

How do you make a tied tutu or a sewn one for that matter?

If you go to my bookmarks site (link in my siggy or on the first page of this thread) there is a section called skirts/pettiskirts and tutus. There are several patterns there.

But, basically for the tie one, you just cut strips of tulle twice the lenth you want them, then loop tie them around a pice of elastic cut to your child's waist size (I found it easiest to sew the elasic it before putting the tulle on).

For the sewn ones, I took a couple pieces of tulle, cut across to twice the length I wanted, plus about an inch (for the casing) Then, I fold it in half and sew a casing a little more than the width of your elastic. make a few of these pieces, then start putting your elastic through the casing. If it's not full enough, cut some more tulle, sew the casing and stick it on. It was SOOOO much easier than tieing!

I made something!!

I tried the halter pattern that LadyRob had. I went to JoAnn's and couldn't find any fabric that I loved. I chose a Disney Fairies print to practice on.

So, how bad is it?!?

Super cute! Yay! You did it. (And I see that your little one likes the Wiimote just as much as mine does. ;))

Alright couple questions because I've asked my mom to teach me to sew. This should be interesting. I've never wanted to but she doesn't always want to make stuff for me and I thought I'd give it a whirl....

First, Does anyone else spend ten minutes trying to figure out what page they last left off on??? :rotfl: I mentally note the page # but I have yet to remember what it was when I get back to the computer.

Also I noticed some of you have fabric stashes. I understand this concept I've got into hairbows since I had my 1st baby girl and you should see my stash already. (I buy lots of the basic ribbons and enough of the fun accent ribbon to make 3 or 4 extra bows because I do intend to sell them in the fall when the kiddos go back to school)However when you find fabric you like how much do you buy of it??? I have no intention of selling my outfits so I can't imagine buying a whole bolt but how much should I pick up. What's a typical amount I would need for an outfit??? I've been to some fabric stores and I understand the addiction I've picked up a few I like already but I've only bought a yard or two (okay I did buy 5 yards of minnie dots:rolleyes1 )

Thanks for all the advice.
Jennifer

The girls are absolutely adorable!

Thanks Tink, we think so too! ;)

I LOVE it! I want to make some little halter tops too! You did a fantastic job on this! (and I'm glad someone else posted what little Gracie was holding, I couldn't figure it out!)

These girls are the cutest. Great Work!

Aww shucks, thanks!

I usually buy about three yards.

Here's one way to do it. When you come back to the thread on the main list on the Disney for Families board, there will be a little blue box with an arrow pointing down on it right before the name of this thread. Click that little blue box and it "should" bring you back to the last place that you were before you left the last time.

I just need to vent about my buttonholer. I've got a 1967 Singer machine. (It's a number of years older than I am). Let's just say it does *not* have a one-step buttonhole mechanism. It's more like 482 steps. It comes with its own instruction manual.

DS is still bugging for a camp shirt, so I bought the interfacing I need. I'm ready to get started. But I thought I'd try a quick easier project tonight. I've got a pattern for a pair of drawstring shorts (for me) that have you put in button holes for the draw string to feed through. It claims to be a 1-hour project. Ha! I spent longer than that and I don't even have the buttonhole done! That's Step 2!

So anyway, I thought that'd be a good starter buttonhole project, but even before that I thought I'd just do a few practice ones. So I read the whole manual, set the whole button hole thing up -- and spent about an hour and a half fussing with it... and I still don't have a buttonhole. :( :( :(

I seem to be having two problems:
1) I can't seem to get the bobbin thread to catch (although I'm following the instructions and it occassionally works.) And in order to open the bobbin cover to make sure everything's looking okay down there, I have to take the whole buttonholer contraption off.
2) When I finally raise the bobbin thread and start sewing, the needle thread breaks. It's really weird though because it's not a clean break, it's as though it starts separating and balling up (it's decent thread, too -- Coats & Clark, or whatever.)

Anyway -- I finally gave up for tonight -- after the little base plate shifted (guess I didn't have it screwed down quite tight enough) and the needle broke. The broken part of the needle scratched my eyelid when it flew away, too. (Thank heaven for quick reflexes, I guess). Maybe I'm going to have to start wearing safetly goggles. Ugh!

Thanks for reading. Rant over.

Ok I think almost 6 years of nearly Daily reading on the forum, you would think I would know that but not a clue:blush: Boy do I feel silly. As you can see from my post count I'm more of a lurker than a poster but you would think I would learn something.

Although I confess I just figured out how to add a picture to my signature and avatar(I think that's what it's called) this past week. Let's hope I learn a little quicker if I take up this sewing stuff or my daughter will be too old to be interested in any of the really cute outfits I see here.

It's really cute! Congratulations! You'll be making everything before you know it now.
