Kids CRBA and US Passports

Hello,

Just wanted to report on the process of obtaining the Consular Report of Birth Abroad and US Passport for our kids (my wife is a US citizen). The process was quite easy and the documents came very quickly - around 3 weeks or so.

As soon as the borders open up we have to head to Montana to get their social security numbers. If we can do that prior to October, we can claim the $1400 USD per child tax credit. That would be nice.

Sounds like a crazy question and I apologize but obviously you are paying taxes still there ?
And what do you need to show the kids live with you ? I totally feel like my ex is claiming this and the kids are in Canada with me ???

No, we are not paying taxes in the US. We live in Canada and my wife does not work. We file every year, so we are compliant, but never have any taxes due (except when we had to transfer all the RESP's to my name to avoid more taxes later on - what a headache, don't get me started

We do not have to submit proof of their residence, just have to make sure all 3 of them have SSN's. In order to get that, we needed the CRBA (and we got their passports at the same time - not required, but easy to do at the same time).
