We are sailing on the 5/1 Magic. This will be our 4th cruise, but 1st one with my DD's(Is that how you write it?). My oldest daughter is 5 and my youngest turns 3 the day before the cruise. The has been potty trained since she was 24 months old but recently has regressed a bit. My DH and I think the stress of impressing Mickey is getting too much for her. She is fine most of the time, but sometimes has accidents when she is having too much fun with her sister or friends. I am sure all mommy's know what I am talking about. So....here are my questions:

1. Is there a structured "bathroom" break for the younger children. In her daycare, they go to the bathroom every 2 hours, need it or not.... but since the CM's need to be pretty hands off so I have heard, wasn't sure about this one. Will they help her go but not wipe? I know that sounds silly but even my 5 year old still needs help in the bathroom sometimes.

2. If she has a #1 accident, will they call me and let me change her clothes and bring her back. I am just concerned about the excitement of the 1st day or so....

3. Will she be banned from the club after 2 or 3 accidents? I am just thinking worst case scenario here but like I said, she has been potty trained for quite some time.

We sailed when my DS was 3 and a couple of months. I had your same concerns. We had been on the DCL the year before but my boys (2 and 5) didn't go to flounders or the club.

This past cruise they did and had fun. As soon as they check in for their time at club the CM's have them wash their hands and I remember them asking my youngest if he needed to go potty.

I had him go before he went each time. He did have one pee accident and they paged us and they had put him into a t-shirt. He was having fun and he didn't take time to go when he needed to luckily it didn't happen again. I was concerned because he wasn't really talking that well (we could understand him but others found it hard) He did really well and had a good time.

We would only have them go for a couple of hours during the day and a bit in the evenings or when there was something that they really wanted to do.

It worked out well that even though my youngest was in the 3-4 and DS6 was in the 5-7 they were in the same room most times and could see each other. In the evenings, often they would be together playing computers or watching the movie together.

Have a great time!

My DD's were reluctant to stay in the clubs alone at first so we spent some time there with them. Kids are instructed to wash their hands in the bathroom as soon as they go into the club. They do have structured bathroom breaks throughout the day. "All the 3-4's, please go to the bathroom." It seemed like it was every hour or so.

I have heard that the CM's are not allowed to help in the bathroom in any way - no wiping. Although I did see a CM help a little girl pull her bathing suit up and down. The bathroom monitor called over another CM to help.

Have a great time with your DD's.

I would suggest dressing your girls in things that need NO 'fixing' for the clubs. No snaps or zippers or buttons on pants. Just pull on shorts is what I am planning so they will need no help. I understand the CMs cannot help them.

Plus, when you check your child in to the club, take her to the bathroom yourself. If you will leave her longer than 1-2 hours at a time, could you just come back in and help them with a potty break then return them to the cms? Mine are 3 and 5 too and don't have many accidents, but this is what I'll do.

I know it is difficult when they are that age........I am a preschool teacher. Kids just get busy and forget. I work with 2 & 3 year olds.

Have you ever thought of letting her wear her panties, then putting a pull up on OVER the panties. That way, she'll feel the wet feeling but it won't get on her clothes. She then could tell the CM's she needs you and you could handle the situation without her wetting her pants in front of everyone.

:)

Can she wear a pull up? I guess I was under the impression that she had to be 100% potty trained and to me that means no pull ups? I would rather not go that route but in an emergency I suppose it would do.

Thanks. We can't wait!!! She is kind of a momma's girl so I am not expecting much alone time on the cruise. I have found it is best to plan it this way and be pleasantly surprised when I can grab a minute alone with DH. Also-we are traveling with friends and their little one is 3 as well so they will be together. My oldest will have a friend who is 6 with her. I can't even concentrate on work for the next 3 weeks......

Well, i can only speak from our experience ... but on our cruise they did not allow our DD (34 months at the time) to wear a pull-up. As soon as they realized she was wearing one they paged us and told us she couldn't wear them in the club (not a big deal, i just thought it would make life easier, but apparently no).

Everything I have heard/read so far has indicated "no pull-ups". Anyone confirm/deny this please?

I have only heard they can wear PullUps for the late evening activities in the club (in case they fall asleep).
Hannahandkatesmommy: Bummer her birthday is the day before the cruise. My DD birthday was the day after we sailed (third birthday on the Wonder) & I only had to pay "infant" charges.

Actually, I am glad bc she has an older sister and would be devastated if she weren't allowed in the kids club. I know she probably could have used it but I didn't want to risk it either way(just in case on this particular trip they were so booked that an under 3 couldn't use the club even within 3 weeks of her 3rd birthday).

My 3 year old niece was newly potty trained. My sister just set the alarm on her watch for every 90 minutes. She would go to the club, help her daughter go potty and then head back to the longue chair and book. It worked perfectly, no accidents, no problems.

Thanks everyone. I thought I had this cruise thing down to a science, then I had 2 children. Now there are so many other things to think about. I think she will do just fine in the club and I will go check on her a few times. Now the question is will she want to stay there....

We had a hard time getting our DS6 to leave last year. He wanted to stay there all day. - Mike

Thanks for asking these questions. My oldest boy is 4.5 and is fully potty trained. But, my youngest boy will turn 3 on day 5 of our cruise. He isn't potty trained at all yet, but we are starting to work with him. His daycare teacher is encouraging him too. I don't want to pressure him at all. Our oldest was allowed to train in his own time and that worked out great, but wasn't until he was almost 4. The youngest seems more aware though, so hopefully (fingers crossed). Worst case I'll have to use Flounders instead, but I thnk we'll be ok.
