Has anyone sent their kid to the "residents" camp at Sea World? How old were they? Did they enjoy it? What did they do? I´d love to know everything you could tell me about this camp.

I actually went to the Advanced Career Camp this summer and last summer, and definately will go next summer, how old are your kids? and which camp are you looking at, so that i can give you more info about it. You can also PM me if you wish. :)

Thanks for your reply! :)
My son will be 13 1/2 next summer. We´re looking into the 10 day residents camp at Seaworld only.

ok so im guessing you mean the Coastal Careers Camp, that is the one i want to do next year (i am 17) It is for grades 10-12, I havent done this camp yet, but i know that in this camp they do everything that I did in Advanced Career Camp, but more since it is double in length. Some of the highlights are:
-swimming in the dive cage in the shark exhibit
-Petting/feeding penguins and shoveling snow in the penguin exhibit
-swiming, feeding, petting dolphins
-a wonderful day at discovery cove
-riding Kraken and Journey
-Sleeping at the underwater viewing room of either dolphins, manatees or belugas
-petting/feeding stingrays
-watching pretty much ever show in the park
-swimming in the dolphin stadium (you do a mock swim test that the trainers have to do to get a job, but dont worry, its not serious and what we do isnt hard at all, you basically just go swimming in the pool without the animals)
-talk to trainers and animal keepers and learn all about behaviors and the amazing animals.
-most of all, become with some of the best friends you will ever meet.

That is just some basics, i of course can go into more detail about certain things if you want.

In the Coastal Careers camp, you also leave Seaworld and go snorkeling at the Florida Keys, go in an airboat, and do other fun stuff.

At Orlando, you stay at a hotel near by, usually the Marriot Fairfields Inn, very nice, we get to the hotel at around 6-7 and leave in the morning around 7-8. There are between 2-4 councilers per 20 campers, and they are amazing, they know a lot about the park, animals, everything.

Hmm. . . .i dont know what i left out, so just ask me any questions, i will try to post some pictures too :)

Thanks so much again for your great reply. It seems that he would be too young for this option, since he´ll only be 13. Do you know what would be the best option for him if he wants to spend as much time at Sea World as possible? Hopefully go swimming with dolphins, snorkel, etc.

I would have to say the career camp, its for grades 7-9, in this camp you do a lot, you still spend the last day at Discovery Cove, where you do a dolphin swim, and get to snorkel with tropical fish and stingrays, you also get to interact with birds, you basically do everything in discovery cove, you can just relax do whatever, it isnt a scheduled day.
I believe the only thing that i mentioned above that you dont do is the shark dive, and the dolphin stadium swim, however in the past the career campers have been able to go into the shamu stadium pool (with out the whales) which i think is even better, even though it is a bone chilling 50 degrees F.

I would definately recommend Career Camp, i didnt do it, i did the advanced one, but i have friends that did both and all the camps are incredible. they are truly worth the money, especially if your son is interested in marine animals and seaworld. Ive been to camp the past two years, and this up and coming school year, i will be a senior in highschool, so next summer will be my last year at camp, but i plan on going to college at University of Central Florida, and i plan on getting a job at SW and being a counciler for the camps in the summer. The camps are truly amazing, i really encourage anyone to send there kids to them. Also, i know 5 days sound short, but you do spend ALL day at the park and are constantly doing things so you really do a ton of stuff. If you want i can give you a day to day itinerary that i did the past two years, i wrote it all down lol. And i will put some pictures up

as you can see, i love answering questions about camp. so ask away! lol
