Ds is desperate for a big boy bed with a ladder and to be honest it would be great to be able to stash his toys underneath it, we have been doing some research on the internet and can't decide on getting an expensive one "thuka" or just getting a cheap and chearfull one from argos, anyone got one? any advice?

Thanks Alex

Can't advise on a cabin bed, but my DD's at one point did have bunk beds, changing the top bunk what a pain:rolleyes1 , at least a cabin bed isn't as high as a bunk bed though;) , good luck with your decision.

hi
ive got 4 girls and 3 of them are in the same room.
we decided to get the middle 2 bunk beds (which they wanted) and within a few weeks they would argue that on-one wanted to sleep on the top bunk.
so we ended up taking the bunkbeds apart and giving them back single beds.

although my middle two are strange kids as they are 7 and 8 and still like to sleep together.

sorry not much help

My DD used to have this Argos bed

And it was fine, very sturdy

When we moved house she wanted one with a sofa bed and desk underneath. So she now has this one!

We also got that from Argos and although it didn't say in the catalogue it was a thuka one! Afterwards I did find a thuka clearance website, it was something like thuka.co.uk. I did give her the option of a Stompa bed as they're very sturdy but she preferred the argos one and honestly it's been really good. I even put it together by myself :thumbsup2

that is a great bed :thumbsup2

It is - I really like that.

My two both have cabin beds - one was from Debenhams and another from a local shop. Great for the storage but not so goot when making the bed :thumbsup2

DD had one and ended up sleeping on the pull out chair bed that came with it as she felt too close to the ceiling. the metal frame ones are uncomfortable to climb the ladder too so i wouldn't recommend the metal ones. She only had hers 18 months and we ended up buying a normal bed.

we bought an expensive one thinking that it would be useful to be flexible... but it turns out that DS will be too tall for it in a few years so will need to buy him a new one anyway....

Its useful to put toys underneath and they all love playing on the bed.. but its a pain if they need to get out in the night or when youre changing the bed!....

DS had a cabin bed that we got from Argos, it was fine but as others have said it only lasted a couple of years before he out grew it. We then invested in a Flexa bed system, He now has a high double bed with a desk underneath and a single futon chair that folds out for sleepovers. It was expensive but the quality is great and will last a lifetime. Flexa is not the easiest stuff to order so if you were interested in it then you'd be better off finding a showroom where you can see the various components rather than trying to make any sense of their complicated brochure.

I only gripe I have with it is trying to change a double bed 18" from the ceiling requires super human strength and amazing feats of ingenuity and I need a lie down afterwards :faint:

DS also has a sofa bunk. While it was great in the shop there isn't enough headroom in our house to get on and off the top easily. I also agree that metal ladders can be quite painful for bare feet.

Aviod a metal one like the plage, they are soooo noisy and squeaky, got my son one worse thing we ever did, my DD has that pink tent one from argos, has had it for 3 years very sturdy, even moved in one peice fine in the house move, shes taken the tent off now, it was soo easy for her to hide all of her rubbish under it before!, it is a pain to change though, being high up but u get used to it, were in a vicorian house so plently of room height.

This thread has been soooooo useful.

We've just had some bedrooms added to our bungalow and my dds (5 & 4)fancied bunk beds. We go to the trouble and expense of adding 2 extra double bedrooms and they still want to share :rotfl:

I think I'll talk them into normal twin beds. Storage is not an issue otherswise I would have gone for cabin beds

I never thought about when it comes to making the beds! :rotfl2:

As usual some great advice :thumbsup2
