Kids birthday treat bags - need ideas!

I love some of the ideas on this thread.

Our dollar tree has popcorn buckets the plastic type but they are 1 each.

Our dds 4th bday is coming up and she wanted dora beach theme, she has 18 3-4 year olds coming so needed simple and not too expensive.

So we purchased buckets and shovels at walmart for .88 each and used dora stickers to personalize them. Put bubbles (dollar tree), small beach balls (ordered from oriental trading co.), ring pops and individual bags of fishy crackers in them. We then took the dora thank you post cards that come in the invitation pack and had her sign her name on them, punched a hole in them and hung them from the bucket handle. We can do this ahead of time because its a thanks for coming (no gift party).

We just did dd9 party and she wanted luau theme and we got it all from oriental trading and she loved it. We even found matching decorations at the dollar tree.

You can usually find a free shipping code for oriental trading.

I have two more with bdays this summer so I love reading all these great ideas.

I did some "goodie bags" for my friends daughter's theatre party. They were cardboard popcorn bucket (2 for $1) at a Party store. Inside I put a microwave packet of popcorn, a 600ml bottle of pepsi and a large sized bags of sour patch kids or fuzzy peach like at the movies. It fit nicely in the popcorn bucket and then it was covered in basket wrap and tied with a ribbon. It looked cute and did the trick. If you wanted to be more healthy you could put a bottle of water or juice instead of the pepsi, and a few little fruit snacks instead of the candy. If the budget had been bigger, I would have added a $2 gift cert. or free movie pass for their next movie- or a free "at home" movie rental certificate from blockbuster or something. Just some thoughts!

also look down your popcorn aisle in the grocery store they have some of the paper boxes at Krogers and have also seen them at target. hope this helps. :cool1:

Check out Target. I was there this morning and they had lots of hair stuff on their clearance shelves near the cosmetics/pharmacy section. I got DD and Niece lots of stocking stuffer items. One thing they had were bracelets and rings (jelly style) that had 6 or 8 each for 1.24. Most of the hair items had at least 3 things per pack and some had 6 to 8 as well.

This probably won't help the OP, but as a general tip keep an eye on the $1 spot in Target. They change it out periodically and the stuff will go 75% off so it ends up being .25 an item. I got some of the Tootsie Roll banks there awhile back (the kind Dollar Tree has all the time) for .25 apiece and I filled them up with my own candy mix. Also got some cute paper boxes to put the girl's candy in. Anyway, it's worth keeping an eye on.

Not to toot my own horn or anything, :cheer2: (If I don't, who will?) :cheer2: but I love to plan parties! Since this is the budget board, here are my freebie ideas - download free coloring pages and put them in the treat bags, use clip art to make stickers, also alot of the characters have websites that offer free downloads as well. I am helping my girlfriend plan a "My Little Pony Party" and they have an awesome website. Nick Jr. even has free invites and thank you's, craft ideas, etc. My boys are having a "pirate" Party pirate: this summer and I using crumbled up brown lunch bags as their LOOT bags. I will print their invites on paper to look like treasure maps. My MIL bought a treasure chest pinata for $5 at a party supply store outlet. Also check out smalltoys.com. They have items similar to oriental trading but in smaller lots. There business is local to my parents, we have gone their since I was a kid for my parties, so we don't pay shipping. Even still it's pretty reasonable. Kid's parties are so much fun!!!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

For the movie night - to you have a Le Gourmet Chef store around you? I bought little popcorn boxes (like small movie theater ones) there.

Thanks for this tip! I went yesterday and bought a pack of 10 for $2.99. They were exactly what my daughter was hoping for!

Thanks for all the other ideas too. I love the idea of micro popcorn. The theater won't let them take treats into the movie with them so I probably won't do too much candy and things. I did think about the Blockbuster card or movie ticket but that would be a minimum of $5.00 per kid which is a little out of my price range. Thanks again for everyone's help!

My DD just turned 8 and I really love doing her party bags each year. My friend and I have a tradition of shopping at this big party store every year for our kids party bags. This year we had plastic Disney Princess cups, little heart shaped notepads and matching pencils, Princess stickers, ponytail holders, a small box containing fancy paperclips and pencil sharpener and an eraser, a small book and some small candy items, of course that is totally up to you but I feel a couple small items are a treat. All these items are quite inexpensive because they are purchased at a party store they sell them in sets or quite cheap individually.
Good luck with the party!!

You can print out invitations, hats, paper dolls, thank you notes, download games to save to a disc to use as party favors, all for free at www.billybear.com Some other ideas I have seen on this board are princess crowns made with pipe cleaners or glitter wire to be the round part of the crown with curling ribbon streaming down from the crown in various colors purple, pink, irridescent white..ect.. Another idea is to make rice crispy mickey treats with a mickey shaped cookie cutter and then dip the ears in chocolate and then put into a sandwhich bag and tie with more of that curling ribbon. Another cheap party favor are leis for a summer or luao theme. Hope your dd had a magical birthday! :wizard:
