I bought little canvas totes for my daughter's upcoming 5th birthday party to use as treat bags. She is helping decorate the bags using foamies and a few other items. The bags are really looking cute but i need ideas on fillers. I bought little dinosars and cars for the boys, sunglasses for all, little braclets and rings for the girls. So far I've been able to get really inexpensive items. The bags were 3 for $1. The other stuff came in packs of 12 and were $2-3. We are inviting 18 children.

I do not want candy. I am really trying to stay away from the candy. But it does fill up the bag and cheaply!

Any suggestions? I need to keep costs to a minimum.

thank you!

I'm working on DS's treat bags for his party this weekend. Some non-candy things I have are:

fruit snacks
stickers
chinese handcuffs
little frisbees
little bottles of bubbles
washable tattoos

Checkout the dollar store or Walmart's party section for cheap bags of stuff

I do also have ring pops in there as it is a pirate party pirate:

How about bubbles? And some sidewalk chalk? Wal-Mart and Target both have these for fairly cheap. I think 6 packs of bubbles are around 1.50 and the sidewalk chalk you can get pretty cheap too. Also at party supply stores you can get great deals on items!! Have fun! I love filling goody bags :teeth:

My dollar store had mini frisbees (4 pack) choice of Incrdibles, Princesses or Nemo. Also great pencils and stickers.

I generally always do fruit snacks since I don't like putting candy in there either. Bubbles are also always a big hit, check the dollar tree for them. I got cute little ice cream cone bubbles for DS's bday this year from there. I always try to put stickers in there as well, the kids love them. Other than that, just walk around the dollar tree and see what cute little things you can find.

My daughter's 9th birthday party is in a few weeks. We are having it at a movie theatre and seeing the movie Herbie. I am trying to find (so far no luck) some popcorn boxes to use as goodie bags but have no idea what to put in them. Any thoughts?

Well, fruit snacks often have a lot of sugar anyway - how about a small bag of crackers or other bagged snacks?

Yes, bubbles, stickers, pencils, small books, small games, or check out the Dollar Spot at Target for some goodies.

GL!

Coinkc, check here for the popcorn bags... http://www.orientaltrading.com/otcweb/application?namespace=browse&origin=searchMain.jsp&event=link.itemDetails&demandPrefix=12&sku=3/285&mode=Searching&searchDestinationJSP=/search/searchMain.jsp&erec=2&D=popcorn%2Bbox&Dx=mode%252bmatchallpartial&Ntx=mode%252bmatchallpartial&Ntt=popcorn%2Bbox&N=0&Ntk=all

How about washable tattoos, bags of microwave popcorn, cute keychains. As for popcorn boxes, check ebay or a local restaurant supply store. You could even call the theater and see if they could possibly selly you a few of their boxes. I have some left over from my DS#2's circus party last year but I have no idea where they are :sad2:

Yeah, if you order the popcorn bags from oriental, you can get other goodies from there too. You should put a pack of microwave popcorn and definatley movie candy for that! I'd do other things too, is it going to be all girls? Oriental has great deals on beads and things. You could mix girly cutsy things with movie themed things.

I see bags used more than boxes, but local charities that do popcorn could probably provide you with bags for a small donation.

Check with your local high school if you aren't aware of any. They probably have boosters clubs for sports.

My 6 yo's bday is near Halloween. Wendy's and McD's sell the 10 packs of frosty and fry coupons for a buck around that time, so I used those to fill their treat bags. I know that Wendy's near me is currently selling 5 packs of frosty coupons for a buck to benefit Cystic Fibrosis. You may want to check that out :)

Thank you so much! You guys have amazing ideas! I'm going to go check out Oriental Trading Co. right now and then call around to see what I can come up with. Love the ideas for "fillers".

I really want this party to be special because last year we had a disaster with the "guests" being extremely rude and disrespectful. we went to a KC Royals game and the girls wouldn't even sit next to my daughter, made plans to play together after the party, one (of 3 guests invited) showed up 45 minutes late without a gift, and refused to take in the bags we had made with a ball cap, snacks for the game, hand held fans, etc. Needless to say those "friends" have never been invited back to our home. (Although I did find out that individually the girls are fine, it was just the combination of the 3 that was the problem.)

Anyway, thanks again for the suggestions...keep 'em coming!

Having three kids, I have been to more birthday parties than I care to count - lol! One of the best ideas I have seen though was a wrapped book. You could give each child "If You Take a Mouse to the Movies" and on the front attach a small trinket or something? Just a thought from out of the ordinary. :flower:

I wouldn't put any 'junk' in the bags - kids get so much of this stuff & I always end up throwing it out - why not put a Blockbuster rental coupon in the bag or movie coupon- the price ends up about the same but it is something the can actually use rather than something to endup in the garbage. Just an idea.

Somewhere that I went looking for bags had popcorn bags instead of boxes. It had to be either Michaels or Ben Franklin Crafts. They were in the area where the wrapping paper is, shaped like a brown lunchbag, but they were shiny white with red stripes and POPCORN on them.

You could always put a package of microwavable popcorn in each bag. That was the only idea I had for goodies. Bubbles are always a hit.

Kids parties are the best! :cheer2:

Maybe you could include a pack of sugar-free bubble gum in the goodie bags. It's sugar free and not "candy" and still a big hit with kids of all ages! I usually get them at Target (8 pack for $1).

I have three summer b-day parties to do and I'm always looking for new party ideas!

My DD's 6th birthday party is this weekend (8 girls total). I got little Disney Princess purses and put a few junks in them. We are doing an after dinner party so we are doing lots of games. I got tons of stuff - necklaces, rings, tattoos, etc that will be the "prizes" for the games and I am going to have the girls put their things IN their goodie bags which I will likely keep on the table at their places to fill them up!!! Kill 2 birds with one stone, ya know?????????

Good luck! princess: princess:

I always like putting bags of goldfish or pretzels in the goodie bags.

For the movie night - to you have a Le Gourmet Chef store around you? I bought little popcorn boxes (like small movie theater ones) there.

They are like this but are cardboard not hard plastic come maybe 10 to a pack for about $5.00.

I have seen the plastic popcorn boxes at Stop and Shop in the Dollar Section, You could put mini microwave popcorn, at orientaltrading.com you can get popcorn bags 12 for 2.95 for a dozen, if you look up director they have those cool movie clapboard picture key chains or regular ones (without the pic) for 2.95 per dozen, you could do some cute little lipglosses, stickers, cool pens and mini notebooks, fruit snacks or gummies that they can bring to the movies, and of course ring pops.
