KIDS back-pack carrier?

In December I was planning on only bringing a single stroller for DDs who at the time will be 2 and 5...Now I'm wondering if I should just bring the KIDS carrier and a stroller or not? I had figured that DDs would "share" and the older would want to walk more...but now I'm not so sure-but alot can happen between now and them too.

Has anyone used a KELTY KIDS type carrier at the parks? How'd it go? How was this on rides (like the Safari) or do you have to leave it with your stroller too?

She is used to it (the younger)...we've been using it for our almost daily walks to the post office.

I don't own one of these but when we were there a few weeks ago I saw a few people wearing the packs. The children were never in them so I don't know how well that works. Maybe someone here will be able to give you a little more insight into this but this is what I observed.

We have an Evenflo Trailtech carrier and don't use it as much as we thought we would. We have not brought it to Disney with us, but have for other theme park outings. It gets heavy and sweaty, and I would prefer the stroller over it because you can put packages and stuff in the stroller. I would imagine that you would probably have to take your child out of the carrier on certain rides, because it could be a liability issue for them.

Well, if your 5 year old is anything like my 4 1/2 year old, when the little one is riding, she wants to ride too. It seems whenever we use our carrier, the older one has very little interest in riding in the stroller. I think the carrier would be a nice back-up to the stroller, but is it really worth the space to take it as just a back-up? Although I think it might be handy on the trails at AK, where strollers are not allowed (at least weren't when we were last there)

We used Kelty's convertible stroller/carrier for our 2 year old DS last year. This was very useful in many of the situations during our trip. When he was full of energy and wanted to walk or ride then we used it as a stroller. When he was tired I carried him in as a backpack carrier. Also when the park was very crowded I used it as a carrier. This allowed us to move around the park much more easily. I am not sure if this answered your question but if you are interested in this convertible you should find it at their website.

when our son was 18 months we went and used one. We used it the first night in MK and it was not a problem, we left it in stroller parking in fantasyland and did the rides then put him back in and back on and off we went to the next place.

It was heaven on the buses as there was no struggle to keep him on my lap, I just sat a bit forward in the seat and he had his place.

We also used it in Animal Kingdom, and I think one other time. We would have used in exclusively except we also have a DD who was 4 at the time and needed the stroller in Epcot, can't remember why we didn't use it at MGM.

It was also really nice waiting for parades and even in some of the ride lines, he slept in it a couple times, not too comfy sounding but he is used to it.

Another thing he really liked was being able to see! He was up high and could see stuff so much better.

Thanks so much for everyone's replies! I am still struggling with this issue. What I think I will do is a test in Storyland this summer and see how it works out with the stroller and the backpack. Space isn't really a concern of ours (its just that strollers are such a PITA on the busses ) because we'll be driving and we'll have plenty of room in my wagon.

The older (4.5 now) is too tall to go in the carrier now. I feel like her feet would be at my knees if I were to put her in it LOL! She's had a major growth spurt this spring and is up to my belly button already (not that I'm all that tall to begin with 60").

Me? I wouldnt bring the back pack. Close your eyes and picture what it will be like when your tot isnt riding in it. Its big and bulky and I would think a huge pain to lug around.

As for the 5 yr old/stroller issue, I always say try this. Take her to the mall without a stroller and drag her all over for the entire day. Can she make it? If she does fine, then dont worry about a stroller for her, you can always rent one on longer days. But if she cant make it, then bring a second stroller, like an umbrella one.
