On the dining plan, do kids still get a appetizer of their choice? Reason I ask, my younger son LOVES shrimp cocktail
TIA

At the Concourse Steakhouse, my daughter was offered a shrimp cocktail as an appetizer, but of course, she doesn't like them (yet anyway). The server still brought for DH and I because it was included on the dining plan. So, we were able to enjoy her shrimp cocktail as well as our own appetizer, the French Onion soup! YUMMY!

I know they can get an adult appy at Le Cellier. There is an appy on the menu at CRT (cheese & fruit), so they automatically get that. Also, if you eat at O'Hana, Chef Mickey's or 1900 Park Fare, don't forget to order your specialty drinks (like virgin Pina Colada) for everyone including the kids. They are included in the plan!

The servers we had at Chef Mickey's (10/2) and Ohana (10/4) said we could only order sodas or juice, no specialty drinks or smoothies. I wonder if it changed or if it just depends on your server? :confused3

That is strange. We were there the same time as you and all our servers encouraged us to order the specialty drinks because they were included in the plan.

Wow, now I'm a little bummed. I knew I should've spoken up. But when our servers asked for our drink order, they listed cokes, juice, milk, chocolate milk. Maybe I wasn't listening close enough, but I know if I'd heard them, I definately would've ordered one. Especially at Ohana, I was listening for him to offer the virgin drinks. He just said all of the coke type products they had. Oh well!

Did they know you were on the plan upfront? Sodas are included with the buffet and the plan calls for a separate non-alcoholic drink, so it is definitely included.

Yep, both times we told them up front that we were on the plan. Oh well, I guess there's nothing I can do about it know. Maybe I'll go make myself a smoothie! :flower:

We were lucky, we had a great experience with the plan. The smoothie thing is the only glitch we had, and I just assumed they had changed the plan to not include them, so it didn't get me down. It's interesting to hear everyone's different experiences with the plan. How two different servers at the same restaurant have two different "interpretations" of the plan and what is included. :confused3

We were not allowed to get smoothies or specialty drinks either, except for Ohana. Our friends were able to get the bottomless milkshakes at Whispering Canyon also. Other than those two places, it was only soft drinks, milk and coffee.

To answer the original question about kids and appetizers, it depended on the location. At LeCellier, my ds6 was able to order an adult appetizer, and he didn't want one. Our server "talked him into" getting the beef kabob, which he didn't like, but the rest of us at our table took care of it for him. At Spoodle's, they have kids' appetizers, which he didn't like any of so we let it go. My Ds10, who ate off the adult menu at Spoodles, got the kids tossed salad w/ ranch dressing appetizer. They were pretty accomodating.

Now that I think of it, I don't know if my ds6 could have had an adult appetizer at Teppanyaki or not. It didn't matter, because he wouldn't have eaten any of them anyway. But they didn't offer and we didn't ask.

Thanks to everyone!!

That has been very confusing on the drink issues, some reviews say only soda, milk, or juice while other say smoothies and milkshakes?? Seems to depend on the servers??

Our server at Kona practically forced my 5 year old to order an appy. We got the sticky wings for him and they were great! :goodvibes

We were at WDW Sept 17th-24th. Almost every place we went we asked about smoothies and virgin drinks and were told they were not included on the dining plan. This included 'Ohannas and Chef Mickey's. We also tried several times to get the frozen lemonade as a snack and was told no.
