Kids and the COAT battle...

::yes:: Yes, we have this problem at my house and my sons are only 5 and 7!! They complain as if wearing a coat is some kind of punishment. :confused3

Even when I send them wearing a coat in the morning, they get off the bus with the coat stuffed in their backpacks. :teeth:

I've given up fighting the battle and let them wear 2 hoodies and a fleece! The problem is that their teachers complain that they want them to wear coats, hats and gloves. :jester:

My DD are 11 & 14 and are similiar. All they want to wear is hoodies.
I don't bother battling with them over this. They'll learn on their own.

All of my kids went through this, I ended up just letting them. DD12 wears a coat but usually no hat or gloves. My DH hates coats, he wears a hoodie and a down vest.

I only have one in Jr high and 2 in grade school and now that I think about it no one but my youngest has worn a jacket yet this year. Hoodies yes, jackets no. Granted it isn't that cold here in the winter. I have to call out to them to put on something as they are leaving the house.

We had this problem with DD (11) several times at the beginning of the winter. If we are going on a trip - i.e. overnight somewhere - she must have the whole shebang...coats,boots,hats and mittens or gloves. This is non-negotiable. Unfortunately, the 2 times we have travelled this winter were during lousy, yuchy, snowy icey weather. She doesn't have to actually wear them - just have it there in case the car breaks down, etc.

She didn't want to grab a jacket on one really cold day (OK - it was about 30 F) and when DH and I picked her up about 7:00 pm after her after-school function, DH parked at the furthest spot from the door. She wasn't happy about the walk in the wind to the car. She hasn't complained about taking a coat since. :teeth:

DD13 and DD11 never wear their coats either. Both of them wear flimsy zip up hoodies. The only reason that I complain about it is that they fussed wanting new winter coats. So, I bought each of them nice new ones and paid $50 for each and now they won't wear them. I told them that I will not buy them anymore. They can freeze. HMPH!

Oh yeah, if we leave the house one the weekend and they don't bring their coats, they are not allowed to say they are cold. Otherwise they get the lecture. :sunny:

DD11 hates wearing a coat! Her and I argue daily over her not wearing one! She will wear 2 or 3 hoodies before she will wear a COAT!

Do you struggle with your kids to wear coats? Is this something I should fuss over or let her freeze? Maybe she really doesn't mind the cold and it is just me? What to do. :confused3

Oh God! My DD11 also, hates her coats, she just won't wear them. She got 3 nice coats for Christmas, from her Dad, my Mom and my Sister, really nice and good coats, but nop, the coats are there in the closet, brand new with the tags on them still.
DD8 Loves everything and she never argue about it, I guess is the age.
:sad1:

At least your kid will wear pants, right ?? My DS wears shorts & a hoodie all winter long, no matter how cold it gets here in Chicago !! :cold:

I've given up that fight, everyone says to pick and chose battles, and this is one that I decided to "let go" :teeth:

Haha....my son always wears 2-3 sweatshirts. I never really thought about it, but now I get it.

DD won't wear a coat either, and if she does, she winds up leaving it on the playground. She usually wears a hoody though.

YEP, I have conceded that we are living in the era of the dreaded :scared:
HOODIE!!!!! :rotfl2:

I've been selling many jackets on e-bay due to the "HOODIE" takeover! :rotfl:
