What are some tricks to releaving ear pain in kids?? Thanks.

Ear Planes. They are ear plugs that have a small tube down the middle so that the air pressure changes very gradually. You can get them at drugstores, Walmart, etc. Expensive (about $4.50) but well worth it! Just read the instructions carefully - it's not obvious how to insert them. My ENT told me never to fly without them again!

:thumbsup2

I know when I go on a plane my ears bug the heck out of me and I chew gum. Now when we fly for the first time in March, I'm giving all my kids gum to chew and I will give it to them just on the runway. My youngest has a habit of swallowing it shortly after, so by the time he does we should be air borne by then. If your kids are the age to chew gum suggest that or someone on here I heard said let them suck on a sucker. My DS youngest would likely chew on it instead.

Just FYI b/c some people dont realize- if your children have a lot of ear infections or constant fluid in their ears, it may be a good idea to see you pediatrician before flying. If you have fluid you ear may not be able to keep adequate pressure and your children's eardrums may rupture. This is of course worst case scenario, but something to think about.

awesome...thanks for the tips...
I have flown a lot...Ive been to Europe and back many times...and I have been all the Americas ever since I was really young, and I have always had ears problems...for the shorter flights I just suffer in pain...but for the longer flights Europe I used stuff to knock me out for the whole flight...but I reccently with NYC and my ear pain is almost unbarable for the shorter flights, and I am going to the doc in the next month or so and am about ask him what to use for the shorter now too, but I will mostly definately now think about trying the earplanes...

A decongestent about 30-60 mins before boarding. Then, a squirt of nasal spray. And if we're being overly cautious, we put in the EarPlanes. They work great. And of course, we have that bottle of water with us, so sipping on it during take off and landings helps also.

I've only used the brand-name (aeroplanes?) before

Noticed that eckerd now sells a store brand - 1/2 the price of original...has anyone tried it yet?

Hate to try & save a few bucks if the product won't work.

My DS ear drum ruptured the first time he flew, that was before they made earplanes. Now him and I both wear them, they are great.

These worked so well for my DD last Feb! Also, drinking from a juice box/pouch always helped too!!
