Well after a tip to the ER last weekend, we found out that DH has Kidney Stones. The Dr. that he saw there scheduled an apt. for him to have the shockwave treatment that breaks them up on August 15. It seems to me like that's too long to wait, but maybe not. Anyone know?

My DH had them twice but he passed them. I know it was agony but it is not a big deal unless they act up. I do not understand why you need to wait so long but maybe it is a triage thing and they are not a top priority. Problem is he could have another attack at any time and you do not want to be like hours from home so you are pretty much bound to an hour or two from home.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

OUCH! P's and PD to your DH. My dad had kidney stones and he was so ill, and in so much pain. He was in the hospital. I've never seen him like that. I know you'll be super supportive and your DH will be glad he has you to help him through it.

DD13 has had problems with recurring kidney/bladder stones for the past 7 years. In DD's case it's not unusual for the Doctors to schedule her lithotripsy or even surgery up to 5 months in advance.Unless your DH is in pain or having alot of infections I doubt you have anything to worry about. The best thing for your Dh to do while he is waiting is to drink ALOT of fluids (caffeine free if possible)to help keep his kidneys flushed out.Good luck!!!! I really feel for your Dh :sad2:

I have had a lifetime of kidney stones, so P&PD to your hubby from a fellow sufferer.

I believe you live in S. Jersey as well, so I'll tell you about the place I recently had my lithotripsy done: The MidAtlantic Stone center on route 73 across from the REI sporting goods store (Mount Laurel). This place is GREAT. I had the treatment done in about 2 hours and my last stone was history. I was able to get an appt there pretty soon after my last ER visit.

If you'd like more info, PM me!

I had mine the first time when I was pregnant with DS#2--I thought I was in labor but to my surprise when I got to the hospital they said no--The next morning I had and ultrasound which found the stone and they had me in the operating room that afternoon----In the OR was the urologist and his team, labor and delivery team, neonatal team and cardiac team---And the room wasn't even that big!!---Well they put a stent in to relieve the blockage and sent me home the next day, later that same night my labor started for real
I was scheduled to go into the chair 4 weeks later but it went down--2 weeks later and it was down again----About 3 weeks later and I was in the ER in so much pain it wasn't funny so they broke out the morphine and schedule me for manual extraction the next day
I knew the stone was big but my urologist kept pulling out huge chunks and commenting on them as he showed them to me-----The urologist will send the stone to another lab for testing of some sort---where mine was huge pieces he kept the biggest piece and had it put in that lucite stuff and kept it on his desk as a paperweight and the rest went to the lab
Mine was more like branches kinda like that hard tree looking thing you put in fishtanks instead of a round stone and mine had completly blocked the top of my right kidney causing an infection from all the waste being backed up
Tell your DH drink water and lots of cranberry juice--and NO milk or cafffeine---When I got my first one all I ever drank was hot tea in the am/iced tea during the day and milk
It is possible to pass them but it is painful--being a female the pain I had will vary from his!---Unfortunately once you get them they say it is easier to continue to get them

Tell hubby to hang in there. I am also a fellow kidney stone sufferer. As long as his stones are not moving he should be fine. I guess when he was in the ER the found that he had more stones in his kidneys and they are going to break them up so if they pass they should be so small that they won't cause a problem. They say having kidney stones is as close to labor as a man can get however I have had 2 kids and was in awful back labor with the 2nd one and I would much rather be in labor. I have a high pain tolerance but a kidney stone will bring me to my knees in a heartbeat. Lots of prayers and PD pixiedust: for your husband.
