Kidney Stone Pain?

Have you noticed how much men love sharing their kidney stone experiences...kind of like a rite of passage...::yes::

since you're here, let me tell you about mine:

pain started in lower side, but around back...thought maybe I had to "go" real bad...tried but did not help. Pain got worse...asked to be taken to medical where I work...Doc comes in...I'm literally on my knees on the floor...writhing in pain. I get up on the table, he looks me over, says looks like you need to go to ER...can you call someone to take you?

So, I'm lying there, dying...trying to remember phone numbers...finally get a ride...which I barely remember. Get to the ER, place is slammed. I waited about two hours in the waiting room...sit in the chair, kneel in the floor, trying to find some position which offered relief. I remember some medical drama was on the tv in the waiting room....which REALLY irritated me.

A little old lady, God bless her, came up to me and told me that she could see I was hurting, so she asked the receptionist to swap "places" with her so I could be seen sooner.

They finally called me back, but had no rooms available, but they had a bed out in the hallway which they put me on. At my feet in another bed is an old man who was having difficulty of some kind...every few minutes he'd shout out "ohh help me help me help me..."

They still have not given me anything. They want to do some sort of scan to rule out appendix? or look for stones...they give me some bottles of stuff to drink...I get most of it down, when I realize it's not gonna stay down...I told my wife she better move...it was like Ol' Faithful...right in the main hallway of the ER...after that, they got me some drugs for pain. :headache:

Finally got scanned, etc...determined it was stones...sent me home with prescription and "the funnel". As far as the drugs...make sure you're close to where you want to crash when you take them. :cloud9:

I had been eating a lot of rolaids before then...which turned out to be due to reflux...so now take nexium for the reflux, which means no more rolaids, so hopefully no more stones.

NEVER ask a man about his kidney stones unless you have LOTS of time. :thumbsup2

If you're really lucky, he'll even show you the stone he saved, as well as any x-rays, medical charts, pill bottles, etc that he's kept for show and tell.
