We were just there in April. Our request was to be near the pool which put us between the very end elevator on the Western side and the second to last (which also opened to the pool). This put us on the Sunset side of the "W", directly across from Pembe at the bead. It was amazing. We had a view of mostly ankole cattle, giraffe, ostrich, and the OCCASSIONAL zebra from our room. But if we went out into the hall and watched through the windows, we saw the Okapi. I know people complain about Pembe but here are my honest thoughts:
* The animals seemed more "plentiful" on Pembe because they had many varieties of antelope, lots of birds, and the Okapi, among others. It just seemed busier from an animal perspective which would be fun.
* On the downside, it isn't a very DEEP savannah so you could see the back fence from just about everywhere. And the further you got to the end, the more shallow it was. In fact, there were some areas toward the last elevator that I really HOPE they aren't calling Savannah because I would be really mad by how shallow the Savannah was there.
But overall, my opinion is the Pembe would be amazing. Particularly if you request both "by the pool" and "Pembe". I think you would see a lot and you'd get the joy of the animals of Sunset from the lobby... So if Okapi is your family's favorite animal, I would go for it without reservation (except maybe the fear that those tiny little areas near the end would be considered Savannah - maybe call and ask).
Have a great trip!
We are staying at Kidani for the very first time for our 20th wedding anniversary. I have booked a 1 BR Villa with a Savanna View. We really want to see the okapi since they have become our family's favorite animal. Which room request should I make? Having never stayed here, I am uncertain what to request. I have read many reviews of how unhappy people were with Pembe savanna so it is making me nervous to request that. Any help would be greatly appreciated! TIA!
