I'm, unfortunately, back from my trip. The DIS is driving me crazy with the slowness, etc. Sorry you couldn't get the dolphin excursion, but glad you were able to book something.

Yay !! You are back !! I will look for your new TR !! The Dis really IS slow nowadays isn't it ?? I thought they were getting that fixed. It can be really frustrating for sure.

Saturday, April 15, 2011 – Disney Dream – Castaway Cay #2

This will be our second Castaway Cay day, so whatever we don’t get done the first time, we will try to fit in today.

The evening’s festivities will include the show “Believe”. I have read this is good, so we will try to see it

Afterwards, we will taking the kids to their respective clubs because DH and I have a 7:30 PM ressie for Palo.

And we are looking forward to trying their famous chocolate soufflé.

I am very excited about this dinner since DH and I rarely get time alone.

After dinner, we will have to head back to the stateroom to pack up our stuff to have it ready for Disembarkation.

And then maybe we will head out to see some characters at the See Ya Real Soon Party.

And I guess that will be about it because the next morning they make you get up super early to get off the boat and we have a long drive ahead of us.

I have 64 more days to try to come with stuff to keep myself and readers entertained. First, it will be all about the exciting world of fish extenders

Fish Extenders

Just like my DH, I sure you are wondering what a fish extender is. It is kinda of a fun little thing and we thought we would try it.

Here’s a description from Goofyisasgoofydoes here on the DIS. I got this from the Cruise section on the boards.

So just what exactly is a “fish” and just why does it need “extending”? Well… The “fish” is a combination wall decoration/ornament and message clip that is attached to the wall outside every cabin on the Dream, Magic & Wonder. The CMs (that’s “Cast Members” for the newbies) use them to leave messages, official forms or invitations for the occupants of the cabin as needed. It’s kind of like a glorified fridge-magnet and it looks like this:

A “Fish Extender” is anything that you care to hang on the fish. Literally anything will qualify, but in general, they are usually some type pocket organizer similar to a shoe caddy or mail organizer. They can be as simple as a canvass bag or as complex as your imagination cares to stretch.

Here is what it looks like:

So, what’s it for? Well… It’s become a kind of “Secret Santa” game played by the folks who roam the DIS Boards. The idea is that every DIS Member who is on the same cruise will go around the ship and leave a little “nick-nack” or “whats-it” in the pouches for the other members that are playing along. The generally agreed rules are that you give out gifts to each participant once per cruise, and that the gifts should be very inexpensive trinkets that either fit a cruise or holiday theme and/or show off a little taste of who you are or the place that you call home.

So I found the fish extender group thread for our cruise and signed up for it. It looks we have about 24 or so families playing along and they have split the group up so we will have about 12 or so families in our group. More might sign up as we get closer to the cruise.

I can sew pretty well, so I went to the fabric store to see if I could find some fun Disney fabric to use to make said fish extender. And I am here to tell you, Disney fabric for sewing is in short supply. I couldn’t find anything really and what I did find, I didn’t really like it much. So I got some quilting quarters of red and black fabric and some bias tape to make the fish extender per the instructions on the FE thread.

I got on the internet and did a search for Disney fabric and still didn’t find anything I liked until I saw this:

And I love it. It was on Etsy and I ordered it.

I thought it would go so well with the red and black fabric. One of my tennis buddies has an embroidery machine and she said she would help with putting our names on it with her Disney font when I got it all made. So I have a design in my head and I anxiously await the arrival of my black and white Mickey fabric.

And I wait …. And wait …… and wait. And to tell the truth, I am still waiting. Because I haven’t gotten it yet and it has been two weeks. The person that I ordered it from is in Japan and I understand that it would take a while to get here from Japan, but two weeks ??? I dunno. So I emailed them and received no reply. So I reported it as not delivered this morning. And now I wait to see what happens. I will be disappointed if I don’t ever get it that is for sure. Not only will it have been a waste of money, but I really like the fabric.

So there is info on what a fish extender is. We look forward to this activity and meeting other dissers. I will post my sewing progress and FE gifts soon.

Girl, I got on that website and booked whatever we thought we might like to do. Half the stuff was already booked though, so I imagine our cruise is sold out or close to it. We got dinner at Palo, reserved floats for our two Castaway Cay days and the Stingray Adventure. So I guess we will have to take another cruise to fit in the Dolphin Excursion and cross it off my bucket list.

I will keep checking back, though. I want to swim with those dolphins !!!

You need to go to Discovery Cove in Orlando. It isn't cheap, but from what I've been told it is Ah-Maze-ING! I have a girlfriend who used to live in Tampa, and has a timeshare in Orlando, and she used to take her girls every other year. They only allow a limited number of people in a day. If you aren't signed up on Groupon, do so. Not too long ago they ran a Groupon for the place. Maybe they'll run one again. I really want to take DD there.

I wonder why they stopped the double dip cruises? Seems like a great option. I can't imagine being able to take in all of Castaway Cay in one stop. I will of course live vicariously through you because if I'm going to get on a cruise ship, it will be taking me to Alaska. My mom really wants to do an Alaska cruise, so maybe next summer we'll all go do the Disney Alaska cruise.

Ooooo mixology class. I really wanted to do the ones they had at F&W last October, but something tells me bringing a child in would have been frowned upon.

LOL. DH keeps asking me, "now what is that thing for again?" I think it is a really neat idea.


I hope I get my fabric, too. I will be seriously bummed if I don't. And I will have to rethink my whole fish extender thingy.

I have never had something take this long before. I need to check and see if there is a tracking number. I did order something for my daughter once that never came and I got reimbursed for that. I really hope it comes.
