Kidani Animals

I tried posting this on the Resort thread but received no responses, so I'm trying it here. In July, we are renting points at Kidani for the first time! While we are long time visitors at AKL/AKV-Jambo, this will be a first for us at Kidani. Can someone tell me what animals we can expect to find on both the Sunset and Pembe savannas? Anything else we need to know-either about the animals or anything else about Kidani?

I don't know much about Kidani (or AKL at all) but you might find some people on this AKV Lovers thread who can help you out. Actually, if you read back several pages from the end I believe they discussed which animals are on which savanna. Good luck!

Be aware that the animals differ depending on whether you are on sunset savanna (most Kidani savanna view rooms face sunset and it is the same savanna that the west side of Jambo has always faced) or Pembe (at northern end of Kidani). If you have been to Jambo, you will see essentially the same animals on Sunset savanna including giraffes. Pembe has no giraffes but instead has the okapi, a much smaller animal without a long neck from the same family as giraffes, and the okapi is not on any of the other savannas; moreover, i have seen the red river hogs on Pembe but not Sunset. If you want giraffes ask for sunset savanna view. Also, if you want to avoid the walk down the endless hallway to nowhere ask for something close to the lobby (the walk from the lobby to last rooms on the northern wing is over 1/4 mile)

Kidani sunset has cattle, zebra, giraffes, cranes and ostrich and a couple others. It was great.

I thought the biggest difference was that Pembe has the okapi. While I like the okapi, I LOVE my giraffes. So, Sunset Savanna it is. (Yes, I know it's just a request, but I've almost always had good luck with requests.) I had read somewhere to request a lower floor, sunset savanna, and near the Rafiki elevators in order to be near the pool area. Is that going to be a very long walk from the lobby? If it is, we'll change the Rafiki elevator part to near the lobby. Thanks!

Change Rafiki to "near the lobby." In September we were several rooms beyond the Rafiki elevator, and while it was close to the pool, it was a long, long walk to the lobby to do things there, or go outside to catch buses, etc. At least we spent more time going to the lobby than traveling down to the pool.

Kidani Village has two savannas, the Sunset savanna and the Pembe savanna.

The Pembe savanna has no giraffes, but it does have Okapi and Red River Hogs. Those little hogs are cute; they ran around the savanna as a group it seemed. We loved the Okapi as well, and I thought that they were less shy than I expected they would be.

But Sunset savanna has Giraffe and Zebra in addition to Greater Kudu and other animals. We're doing the Sunset savanna in December hopefully. We've put our request in.

I would get it on the reservation. Also, request Sunset....the other side was disappointing to me.
