Kid-Friendly NYC Restaurants?

We loved Serendipity! The food was delicious, great service and the frozen hot chocolate was incredible, I can't wait to go back next summer. Make sure you make a reservation though, even on a weeknight there's a
long wait.

I'd never do Mars 2112 again. Overpriced, lousy food, terrible service as already said. I know many who have gone and wouldn't again.

Gee you better not let Captain Orion hear you! We go 5 or 6 times a year and never had any problems. I get the steak, my wife and kids get the burger or Pluto’s pasta. You are paying to be on the Planet Mars. Well worth the price. Even if the food isn't out of this world.

Another vote for Ellen's Stardust Diner! We were just there last Saturday and my DD7 didn't want to leave even after there being there for almost 2 hours!
It gets crowded, but the singing waitstaff keeps everyone entertained.

what time were you there on Saturday? we were there from 8:30 am to 9:30 a.m.

We loved Mars 2112 -- good food both times we went and we loved the atmosphere

Love, love, love Ellen's Stardust -- we had to wait a bit a couple of times we went there, but it was early Saturday evening, so we expected it. The food wasn't out of this world, but basic good stuff, but we just love the whole theme of the place and the waitstaff was great.

We didn't like J&H at all --cold food, bad service, although the atmosphere was awesome. We have only been there once, and maybe they were just having an off night.

There are some other great suggestions here of places I've never tried with the kids -- I'm glad I jumped on this thread!

We were there around 1:30 in the afternoon. We went after our Brownie trip to the RC Christmas Spectacular.

My daughter and I will be back in the city on Sunday and she wants to go back. We could sit there all day singing along!

Thank you! I've been trying to think of the name of that place for so long. DS and I are seeing Spamalot for our birthdays next week! Was looking for a non-chain, fun place to eat with "regular" food for a picky eater (not me!)
Have fun at Spamalot. I just saw it Friday and it was hilarious! Just a note: unlike most shows they only open their doors about 25 minutes before the show starts. So don't arrive too early.

Mars 2112 isn't bad. I liked the atmosphere but I personally thought their menu was too small.

J&H is very cool. The people are really in character and the place is very well done up. Also the menu is huge! Be sure to have a seat at the bar for some more fun.

I don't recommend the ESPN place restaurant. Both me and DBF (a big sports fan) found it boring. Unless you wanted to watch basketball on 5 different tv's there was nothing else.

My kids liked Ellen's Stardust Diner and John's Pizza most!
We went to Ellen's before we saw "Wicked". Very convenient.

Did you go to the 10:00 am show? We went to that one - very last row of the third mezzanine and still great seats - we loved the show, wasn't it great?

We were at the 10:00 a.m. show also! Our troop leader ordered tickets back in August, so we were on the floor, which was wonderful! (I agree that almost every seat is a great seat!) It definitely got me ready for the holiday season, although check back with me in a few weeks!

Do you remember your waiter/ress? We had Toddy and he did a killer version of All I Ask Of You from Phantom.

we had a woman who was tall with long dark hair up in a ponytail. We thought she sang too softly. I was so embarrassed b/c my friend (pursuant to my dare I never thought she would follow through on) asked her for more sweet n low during the middle of her song!
