I was wondering for those that have been to BLT with children how kid/family friendly do you think it is? I am trying to decide between an add on there or at AKV. I love the location of BLT since Magic Kingdom is my favorite park. But I want to be able to bring my grandchildren there and hope they would enjoy it as much as BCV or SSR.

I was there last week with my 3 year old and 1 year old. It is very family friendly. It might not have a Disney theme, but DD loved the pool and the slide and the kiddie slide. There was a pack and play for my son to sleep in. And nothing beats the location! We walked to MK multiple times! It was convenient to the Contemporary and Chef Mickey's in which we ate twice. We loved BLT!

I think the location is a wonderful plus. Proximity to the CR is great too....Chef Mickey's! The MK is a quick monorail ride or walk away. The pool area is very nice and you can also use the larger CR pool area. Plus, there is a lot to watch right outside your window! We were in a studio on the 9th floor last month and had a great view of EC fireworks and the Electrical Water Parade. Also, you can go to the Top of the World and see MK fireworks if they are not visible from your unit.

Oh my gosh, how can anyone say the BLT doesn't have a Disney theme? (Not specifically picking on you -- this isn't the first time I've read something like this.) There are hidden Mickeys in the carpet in the halls and the bedding in the rooms, Disney art in every elevator lobby, Disney art in all the villas, the pool slide has light-up Mickey heads (and the water play area is in a Mickey shape), and the monorail runs right outside the windows!! Plus, Mickey's own "kitchen" is right across the walkway! To our family, we think it is the *most* Disney hotel!! :goodvibes

It's not a Florida hotel trying to be an African lodge or a Hawaiian resort ... it's just a Florida hotel chock to the brim with Disney!!

Our son is 16 and we had our niece (12) and nephew (8) stay with us last month, too. They *loved* the pool and slide, they loved watching Wishes from the TOW Lounge, they loved the proximity to Chef Mickey's, the CR arcade, and the monorail. Community Hall seems to have a lot of great kid-friendly activities, too, even though we didn't partake in any.

I agree 100% with this! I'm always surprised when people say they don't think it's very "Disney" - just the artwork alone makes it VERY Disney! The only other resort that has that much Disney baked into it is ASMovies.

Yes! Exactly! ::yes::

And I even forgot to mention the gorgeous Mickey-embossed elevator doors and the adorable Mickey-head speakers on the fireworks viewing area and the walkway between the CR and BLT. ;)

Just got back a week ago. BLT and Contemp both have a bunch of kid activites such as beach movies, campfire marshmallows, wii bowling and guitar hero tourneys, and more...

I can't wait to stay there!!! We are BL DVC members now. We have stayed at the Contemporary so many times and LOVE it. We know we will agree with you because we agree with you about the Contemporary. You are making me so excited!!! I LOVE DISNEY WORLD!!!!!

I'm so glad that someone asked this question. :worship:

I have a DS4 and was wondering what he would have to do there besides the pool.

Thanks!

Do they show movies there outside like they do at BCV? That would be great. I am getting excited about an add on at BLT.I am so happy to have gotten so many positive responses.:banana:

The movies are shown at the CR main pool. BLT pool area not really big enough (I was told).

The recreation staff at BLT is awesome and most cut their teeth at SSR:thumbsup2 Im excited about this for both BLT and AKV Community Hall's. They strive for excellence and guest interaction. I know for a fact that SSR recreation staff qualities have improved activities at BCV, SSR, BLT, and AKV. Im not hesitant to stay at any of these resorts because we will have great activities:thumbsup2

If you have the points and time, maybe a split stay for "review" purposes is in order to test both out on the same trip.

Very kid friendly. This was our first DVC trip. My five year old son loved the pool, the community hall, and the monorail going through the hotel as we ate at Contempo. My one year old daughter also loved the pool. Quick walk to MK, (although I found the pedestrian walk light signal a little sluggish.) We had a lake view one bedroom. Great weather, great time.

We used to stay at the Swan/Dolphin with my son. Never again. S/D are themeless and cold.

Wow this thread is getting me super-excited for our first trip "home" in May!! :goodvibes

I have found all of our trips to be "kid friendly" no matter where we stay. We LOVE going to WDW and are so happy to be DVC owners. Can't wait to try as many of the resorts as possible. Leaving 4 weeks from today for our first stay at BLT - yeah!!!!!!

I think all of Disney is really kid-friendly! We are just back with our DS who is 4. We all really enjoyed it. The best perk was the close proximity to MK. Walking saves you SO much time, or you can take the monorail, which is fun for the kids. The pool was just great. The slides were a huge hit. Viewing the fireworks and the water pageant in the evening was also great for the kids. It was just great!

How is Top of the World with kids? We'd like to go there for appetizers and a drink one evening. Thanks!

We had the kids (ages 8, 12 & 16) up with us and they loved it! The fireworks were great, they thought the seating was very comfy, and they loved having "enchanted" drinks w/glowing ice cubes. :thumbsup2

BLT is very kid friendly.

the community hall (small - but packed full) is for all ages.

they have coloring and other stuff for the little ones.

gameboy machines and the big TV has the WII on it.

so definitely go visit it.

the pool is wonderful.

now there is not a playground. Don't know why - because all the other DVC resorts have a playground if not several. and there is definitely room between BLT and CR for a nice playground.

you would think that DVC would have a playground here because it is the closest DVC resort to the MK - and the kids will love it.

We only stayed there one night and although we liked the pool area we won't be going back any time soon. I think those balconys are a tragic accident waiting to happen. We were standing on the balcony and in an instant my 2 yr old had his foot on the top of the concrete portion of the balcony and was trying to climb up it. We ripped him off the railing and never went out there again. We expected the sliding glass doors would have the secondary high safety locks like the DCL cabins but they didn't.
