Kick'n It at Kidani (aka Am I Becoming a Resort Snob?)Final Update 8/20 p.54

I did want to tell you guys that DH and I decided to do the DxDP in September. I am pretty excited about this, although I think it will probably be too much food. But I wanted to do at least one signature meal and I really wanted to do two. Of course, If we are going to do two, it just makes sense to add the DxDP, so we decided to go for it. Plus what's a signature meal if you don't have an appetizer! We will be celebrating our 20th anniversary. It's one month early, but hey, who's counting!

We're celebrating our anniversary two weeks early so it's all good!

So I am not going to reveal all our dining plans yet. I am going to save it for the end of this TR. Let's just say that it was impossible to get Le Cellier, Ohana, and Chef Mickey's because we are only going on a 4 day trip. I also can't get Tusker house breakfast or Yak & Yeti for lunch. What's up with that! Being on a 4 day trip during free dining puts us at a distinct disadvantage for getting prime time ADR's. Fortunately, the signature meals we want are pretty much wide open:thumbsup2 Another reason for upgrading!

I know what you mean -- we are going for four days as well and I was not really thrilled with one of my ADR times.

And then....DUN..DUN..DUN.....a sudden, unexpected noise startled me out of my new found slumber. It was one of them......the dreaded teenagers.....in my roon at 12:15am. "Mom, I can't sleep. My leg is really killing me" :scared1:"What?". I didn't know whether to be pi$$ed off or concerned. I knew DS16's stress fracture was still bothering him a bit, but this was ridiculous. It must be really hurting for him to wake me up. And when he did I could not think straight. I said, "Take some more Motrin. Take a bath in the jaccuzzi tub". I meant the first statement, not the second!

I didn't expect DS to take me up on the offer, but he did. So its 12:15 and DS is taking a bath in the jacuzzi tub in our bedroom! :scared: I hate that feeling when you are just going to sleep and someone wakes you. Its the worst. On top of that, DS jumps in our tub at midnight. Fortunately, I was so tired that I managed to drift off while DS was still in the tub. So fatigue won out over irritation!

So.....how was DS in the morning and who got the mystery rash?????? Stay tuned for my morning update!

Oh no! Poor DS with his leg, but I can't believe he went ahead and took a bath in your tub in the middle of the night! I hope it helped his leg.

Oh, MEK! You can't leave us hanging like that!! :headache:

I am so glad you upgraded to the deluxe dining! It will be a great time for you to celebrate your anniversary! :goodvibes

YAY for early anniversary celebrations! We'll be celebrating our 21st 3months early! Looking forward to hearing what adrs you were able to get!

Me me! lol. Come by my TR :)

The jacuzzi tub is our fail safe for DSD and soccer injuries...I can completely see DH saying something like that while sleep deprived and half awake. And then he'd wake me up to clean the tub out for her lol!

SHE WAS INVITED TO CAMP TODAY :)

:jumping1:

Very cool on DxDDP in Sept, I am completely jealous and can't wait to see your ADR list!

Here's a cute little pic I took in the gift shop. I took some other gift shop pics but I can't find them right now. Maybe they're in day 3!

DisneyJune2009228.jpg

Wait....here's the gift shop pictures......

DisneyJune2009179.jpg

I loved these plants. If I didn't think it would be such a hassle to get one of them home, I would have bought one right away.

DisneyJune2009180.jpg

I'm looking very forward to checking out this gift shop in a few more weeks!

When the parade ended we took the slow people walk over to BTW. It was finally time to ride. As it turns out we timed our ride perfectly with the start of Wishes. As fireworks were bursting overhead we riding, laughing into the night! And LJ had just one word to some up the experience....AWESOME!

That's cool that it worked out for you to see Wishes while riding Big Thunder. I've never seen them from BTMR, but I've ridden Dumbo during Wishes, and that is pretty wild!

We're celebrating our anniversary two weeks early so it's all good!

CP _ Are you going in September, too???? How did I miss this???? I probably just missed some of the banter in your TR. You write one update and you have 25 replies in 0.8 seconds! :rotfl:

I know what you mean -- we are going for four days as well and I was not really thrilled with one of my ADR times.
Well then, you might just have to do Deluxe, too. We definately need to compare ADR's. I really couldn't decide between Narcoosee's and Artist point and Mickeyismyboy said that Narcoosee's was the best place she has eaten, hands down. That's when I decided I should just do both! And it was DH who said - its our anniversay, just go for it!

Oh no! Poor DS with his leg, but I can't believe he went ahead and took a bath in your tub in the middle of the night! I hope it helped his leg.
It did. He actually took several trips to the jacuzzi and they were all helpful. The others just weren't in the middle of the night!

Oh, MEK! You can't leave us hanging like that!! :headache:

I am so glad you upgraded to the deluxe dining! It will be a great time for you to celebrate your anniversary! :goodvibes

Ready to update soon, LL! :thumbsup2 to the DxDP. It was $258 more the 4 days, so it certainly is a reasonable price. When I figured out all the places we could eat for $258 more it seemed like a no brainer. One signature meal alone will be more than half of that!

YAY for early anniversary celebrations! We'll be celebrating our 21st 3months early! Looking forward to hearing what adrs you were able to get!

Well Dawn it may have been reading about your ADRs that got me thinking about the DxDP. I blame it all on the DIS!

Me me! lol. Come by my TR :)

First of all - CONGRATULATIONS ON THE REGIONAL CAMP! That is so great! See - it did help when I crossed my fingers.

Second - I did see you TR link on your siggie last night and I was so tempted. BUT - I knew if I started last night, it could mean another hour of reading, minimum! :rotfl: So - I will defintely be over there today!

I'm looking very forward to checking out this gift shop in a few more weeks!

MeMom - two weeks to WDW???? That's great! Can't wait to read that TR.

That's cool that it worked out for you to see Wishes while riding Big Thunder. I've never seen them from BTMR, but I've ridden Dumbo during Wishes, and that is pretty wild!

Dumbo during wishes - I bet that is pretty cool. You must try BTMR. You will love it! It's a great way to end the night!

Sounds like you stumbled apon a great spot for Spectro! May have to check that out next time!
My DD got a mystery rash too at AK a couple of years ago - cleared up with some benadryl...I thought it might have been from some weird ingredient in the food we got from the Yak and Yeti CS!

Deluxe dining... can't wait to hear all about it! ADRs are really tough to come by that week. I'm really hoping it won't translate into awful crowds and wait time. BUT we'll be in WDW so who really cares? :rotfl:

How fun to celebrate your anniversary. Can't wait to hear about the ADRs you did select.

Sorry your son's leg was hurting. Hope it got better!

I actually think we are just going to miss each other -- my dates are October 1 -- 4.

Of course you are! :headache: Everyone is going then! Which, of course, as you know that I was unable to take off from work then. I am coming to terms with it. It would have been fun to have a bunch of DIS meets, but I am not going to think about that anymore. I am going to focus on the anniversary side of my trip! :thumbsup2

It did end up being a good spot for Spectro....far from perfect, but excellent for finding it at the start of the parade.

Funny - seems a lot of people get mystery rashes at Disney! :confused3

Yeah - all the best 1 TS ADR's are booked, solid! But, like I said, the signatures are open - so far it looks like we will be dining at Narcoossee's, Artist Point, and Flying fish. And all with good times. I like most of our other daytime ADR's as well.......but I will post the whole itinerary when it is finalized. I keep flip-flopping on a few things.

DS's leg did get better, but that night time pain was starting to concern me!

:rotfl:So I promised a REAL update today.....and here it is. But first I must tell you that I did something unexpected this morning. Most of you know I like to run, but what you don't know is that I used to be a HUGE bike rider. I was passionate about it. That's how I met my DH. I used to ride every chance I got - short rides, long rides, century rides (that's 100 miles!), overnight rides. One of my fav rides I did before I even got married - it was a bike ride across Massachusetts. LL was probably about 6 when I did that ride! :rotfl: The scenery was fabulous and the long uphills were challenging. Anyway, I get nostalgic about it during 4th of July because that's when it was. That memory, and all the back road driving I have been doing with my DS, made me want to go out on my bike. So, after not touching my bike for the past two years, I went on a ride this morning with DH. We rode about 16 miles. Really nothing compared to what I used to do, but still a good start. I think I could have handled more, but I don't want to be hugely sore tomorrow. Its really my arms that hurt the most now from gripping the handlebars for dear life!

On the morning of day 3 I got up around 6:50 am. Hey - that's late for me. Those room darkening curtains were certainly doing the trick. Everyone else was sleeping soundly. I decided I did not feel like making coffee by the light of the refrigerator again, so I went to find it elsewhere. Yesterday I did buy a resort mug. I like to have a new one when the patterns change. Don't flame me for this, but I really bought the mug for two reasons:
1. The cups in the villa were ridiculously small - child size! I wanted something bigger.
2. Don't flame me for this, but I figured I would buy the mug now and use it on my September trip. While DH and I may have decided to splurge for the DxDP, we decided to be cheap on the room. We are staying at POP. I promised him that no matter how much I want to upgrade, I will resist the urge. We will likely rent a car, so a quiet room away from the pool and close to the parking lot will be adequate. So.....of course staying at POP means I need a mug. I knew I wouldn't use it much on this trip. I planned to use it mostly for am coffee in the room and for carrying adult beverages to the pool. Then I was going to put it away and bring it back. It seemed like a good investment. Then we would only need to buy one when we returned. I liked my logic at the time, even though I know there are people who would hang me by the toes for doing this. As it turns out, now I don't even need the silly mug because we will be getting new ones. Now I can have one with each different color lid!

OK, so now I had the mug and even though I didn't intend to use it, it seemed prudent to just go get a bit of Nescafe coffee for my morning caffiene fix. That way I didn't have to wake anyone up or kill myself rummaging around in the dark. So I put my workout clothes on and headed to the gift shop only to find it closed until 7:30am! Whaaaaaaat? :scared1: I am one of those folks who must drink coffee ASAP in the morning. I got hooked on it in graduate school and I get a nasty headache if I wait too long to drink it.

Just as I realized the gift shop wouldn't be open for another, say, 25 minutes, I saw a man carrying a cup of take out coffee. When I asked him where he got it, he said "downstairs". At least, that's what I thought he said. I figured he meant Sanaa. Didn't make sense, but I was off to explore. When I walked in Sanaa I asked an employee where I could get a cup of coffee for my mug. Perhaps he did not speak English, but he motioned for me to follow him and started to take me to the kitchen of restuarant. There I met up with a manager type CM who informed me I was backstage. I said, "Can I get coffee to fill my mug?" I felt a little foolish, but I had already invested this amount of time, so why not? He was very nice, he brought me out a whole pot! At this point, I think I took it back to the room to add creamer. I can't really remember, not surprisingly. But once I had my mug filled I was off to take some pics........

My first pic of the morning was an inspirational saying....

DisneyJune2009315.jpg

Then I took pictures of this room that overlooks the savannah. It was completely empty. I was the only fool up so early. I had the place to myself.

I also took pictures of Sanaa, but I have to go find them because it doesn't look like they got downloaded from computer. Crap! I better find them!

So- I guess I shouldn't keep you in suspense about the rash anymore. After my photo tour of the artwork of Kidani DH and I decided to go to the health club and run on the treadmills instead of outside. I'm not a huge fan of treadmills, but yesterday's run was hot and uninspiring. So I thought the treadmill might be a good alternative. It is a brand new health club with tons of weight machines which I know nothing about. There are also 3 treadmills, and 3 eliptical machines as well as 1 recumbant bike. The machines all have TV screens and close captioning. That would have been great except that my machine was stuck on ESPN news. Blech! I needed something more interesting, but try as I might I could not get the channel to change. So I endured my 25 minute run by looking out the window, checking my distance, and watching my calories burned. No matter how many calories I burned it wasn't going to be near enough to make up for all the calories I was consuming.

We got back to the room around 8:15 or so. LJ was already up watching TV. The big boys were sleeping. All was good until LJ said, My legs itch a little bit. I think have a rash".

Now you have seen enough of LJ to notice that he is very, very fair skinned. My first thought was sunburn, even though I had put tons of sun screen on him. But I looked at this nice red, bumpy rash on his legs, arms, chest, and back. Double crap! I had him get in the shower to clean his skin and cool down and then I put on the hydrocortisone. Then I called his mom. I was a little worried that this rash might be an allergy to something. My nurse practitioner sense told me that it was simply a contact dermatitis. But remember, I work in heart surgery, not primary care. What if he had eaten something that he was allergic to! My worst areas are dermatology and orthopedics. Blaahhh. Hate them both.

LJ's mom was pretty calm. She called her pediatrician who agreed with the hydrocortisone and a small dose of benadryl if he was really uncomfortable. LJ, true to form, took it in stride. I told him it was probably a combo of Florida sun, chlorine, and maybe something in the sunscreen. Unfortunately, that rash killed our outside plans for the day. I also ended up canceling our 10:30 adr at Ohana, just in case this rash got worse and I needed to go to a medical aide unit. That's when I realized I did not have of LJ's insurance info. Note to self - next trip bring insurance card copies, front and back!

So....stuck indoors.....what do we do to amuse ourselves?????? Actually, there was tons to do. We walked to the gift shop and LJ purchased his first Lanyard. We also looked at the list of the days activities. This is when I realized I could totally visit any of the deluxe resorts and not even set a foot in the park (well...maybe not ). We decided to visit community hall where they had some very inexpensive projects for kids to do. They also had Wii, foosball, pool, and computers. LJ decided to make a pin which cost all of $1. He was so pround of his pin and quickly put it on his laynard. The morning passed very quickly and soon it was time for lunch!

Up next.....lunch, a quiet afternoon, and an evening at Epcot!

Ready to update soon, LL! :thumbsup2 to the DxDP. It was $258 more the 4 days, so it certainly is a reasonable price. When I figured out all the places we could eat for $258 more it seemed like a no brainer. One signature meal alone will be more than half of that!

First of all - CONGRATULATIONS ON THE REGIONAL CAMP! That is so great! See - it did help when I crossed my fingers.

Yep, the fingers crossed definitely helped! Thanks for the good luck vibes :)

She's pretty excited. Of course we have to get through this weekends tourney first lol. The only signature we've ever done on the DDP was a show...I have a hard time with 2 TS credits when you don't get any extra food (app lol) so the DxDP makes so much more sense if I look at the 2TS places but...with the group our size I can't see us sitting down that much. Perfect for two though! Or an all adult trip....

I wasn't expect LJ to have the rash, I don't know why but I thought it was going to be your DS. :lmao: Poor kid! He seems like such a mellow kid and takes everything in stride. Did your SIL panic when you called her?

Loving all the pictures, it is a truly beautiful resort!

:cool1:

On the bike ride. We are big riders here :) Well, more accurately Scrooge is a big rider and I try. I've developed an eye condition that has made it a little difficult over the last year and I really really miss it. I'm trying to work around it. Had a semi disastrous attempt last week but I hope to go for one today though! Getting older really is inconvenient at times. Scrooge would be ALL over a century ride! We do try to go for at least one ride wherever we travel though! When I think about it that way, we've done some cool stuff.

16 is a nice start and yeah...you need to break your bum in (or at least I do). Funny story about hand gripping and riding....Scrooge and I had a date trip to San Diego about a month ago and rode bikes around the bay (about 26m I think). We'd planned on about a 15 mile ride, just a nice lazy one but half way around, decided to keep going. Which was cool but not my kind of ride in parts (next to the freeway, LOTS of traffic etc). I'm a bike path (or rural tuscan road) girl lol!

Given our spur of the moment decision to keep going, we didn't think to reapply. Scrooge "my legs never burn" biker and runner had some seriously crispy thighs and me.....the back of my hands burned!

OW!

I love love love your Kidani pics today. Esp the light fixtures. "Rashes of an unknown origin" drive me nuts. They make me pick up kids from school, spend money on a pediatrician co-pay so I can hear what I already know. They don't know. It will probably go away. Benadryl.

MAJOR bummer about Ohana! But neat that he got to make his own pin. Great update!

Beautiful pictures!!! I am so excited about staying there in September!!

Bummer about LJ's rash, but I'm glad it wasn't more serious! How cool he got to make his own pin!! I bet he enjoyed the foosball too!!

Looking forward to more!! Happy 4th of July!

:rotfl: I have read this from the very beginning and I am loving it. We just bought at AKV and our first trip is 10/28-11/06. DH and I do not have children so we are doing a studio with SV. I am a nurse too. I am a certified wound, ostomy and continence nure---woo hoo for pee, pus and poop. So the Derm nursing I love....hearts freak me out unless it is a sternal or saph harvest site wound....OK moving on..

I especially loved the great pic of the pool with the bald headed guy in it. That could be my DH. He is completely bald and pooh sized--so a mirror image of your pool man. I am trying to convince him to bring a suit on our trip...so I showed him what he would look like in the pool....he grinned and thought that was funny. Can't wait for more...loving your trip report!!

You biked 16 miles on a whim?? :worship: That is impressive! Isn't it fun re-discovering old favorites?

I am giggling picturing your quest for coffee. That manager must have been surprised to see you!

Poor LJ and the rash. I'm glad his mom was so calm. Based on them finding a way to get to the gate at the airport (which I never knew you could do!) I would have thought she might hop on the next plane! Hope he felt better quickly.

:thumbsup2

I wish we weren't missing you :(. Unfortunately, September was not working out date-wise for me -- Connor's birthday, rooms not available...

That's awesome! How are your arms feeling this morning?

So I put my workout clothes on and headed to the gift shop only to find it closed until 7:30am! Whaaaaaaat? :scared1: I am one of those folks who must drink coffee ASAP in the morning. I got hooked on it in graduate school and I get a nasty headache if I wait too long to drink it.

Yep, me too! :thumbsup2

:rotfl: I would have felt foolish, too, but hey, for coffee, you do what you have to do. ;)

Then I took pictures of this room that overlooks the savannah. It was completely empty. I was the only fool up so early. I had the place to myself.

You got some great pictures without strangers cluttering them up! :thumbsup2

Poor LJ with the rash. That's no fun!

I will say that I was so impressed with all of the activities available at AKL -- we didn't even manage to do all the ones I wanted to either -- yet another reason to stay there again!

Caught up!

Awesome finish to MK! the park just takes on a whole new magic at night and I :lovestruc spectro, what a happy accident!

Your poor son's leg and LJ with a rash :guilty: Sometimes a quiet day makes for a pleasant vacation, just not at the beginning of the trip.

All replies in red:

Yep, the fingers crossed definitely helped! Thanks for the good luck vibes :)

:rotfl:I knew it would!

She's pretty excited. Of course we have to get through this weekends tourney first lol. Good luck to DSD!

totally agree. I wouldn't do deluxe with my family, but with DH it makes sense. Most of the restaurants we HAVE NOT eaten at our 2TS. Why not make the rounds during this trip!

:cool1:

Yes - you definately have to break you backside in, although I feel OK today. I actually quit early cause I thought all kinds of things would be hurting today, but they're not. I wish I could have gone today, but it was one of my mornings to do music at church. Oh well. I will run tonight when it gets cooler. I agree with you on the traffic - traffic is bad, very bad when you are on a bike! :scared:

Given our spur of the moment decision to keep going, we didn't think to reapply. Scrooge "my legs never burn" biker and runner had some seriously crispy thighs and me.....the back of my hands burned!

Ouch!

Thanks. there really are alot of cool things to look at in Kidani.
Rashes - hate them - :scared1:

MAJOR bummer about Ohana! But neat that he got to make his own pin. Great update!

Thanks. I don't think LJ cared that much about the characters. I probably wanted to go to Ohana's more than he did!

PS - Love your TR - going back there today!
