Kick'n It at Kidani (aka Am I Becoming a Resort Snob?)Final Update 8/20 p.54

glad you guys were anle to see Illuminations--its my family's favorite:cool1:

Thanks! It was a lot of fun and I'm glad we had such a great viewing area. I also want to give a :thumbsup2 to the nice lady who let LJ stand up front.

We didn't get Le Cellier yet. We can't make res until Sept...I'm hoping to get it!!! ;)

I think the trick is to have a trip that is at least 7 days long and try to make the ADR late in your stay. If you have a 4 day trip, forget it! :rotfl: Good luck!

Oh I am sorry but I am

:lmao:

with the teens strolling to dinner. We had ADR wait issues twice while Steven took off to get a drink. Huge UGH on your wait past your ADR time. That waiting area was insanely packed when we were there, not the best place to wait.

But worth it. I'm glad you liked it as much as we did.

And impressive that it was that late on your ADR, you hit Malestorm AND made it to Illuminations on time! Great pics. I love the hats and what a perfect first pin for LJ!

I do remember reading that in your TR and I was laughing to myself as well! I think we probably got seated around 7:20 and we were done around 8:30pm. I think they move you along pretty quickly.

Glad you like the pics. My camera is a bit challenged, but I think I am getting a little better with the night time pics.

Your Illuminations pictures are great! :thumbsup2 In all the times we've been to Epcot we've never gotten a seat with a good view. Last year we tried to watch from the Mexico cs area and thought we had a great view til some latecomers sat down right in front of us and blocked our view. :sad2:

That's so annoying. But it's so easy to do. I have gotten in the way of other people looking for last minute spots to watch wishes. It's not intentional and I hate when it happens. I got in someone's way during the Christmas party last year. I didn't want to, but we got out of ones of the shows so late that there was NO WHERE to go. I felt bad and kept moving from spot to spot but I still kept getting in the way!

My plan for Day 4 was to stick with one park. The world was crowded and I figured our best plan of attack was to get FP's and use them throughout the day. We had ADR's at HS for Fantasmic. I knew there was no chance of getting to ride much if we only went in at night. So LJ, DS 14, DH, and I planned to hit the world early. Well....semi early! I think DS 14 decided to sleep on the pull out chair in the living room. He did this because the older boys started antagonizing him after they got back from HS. Having him out in the LR worked to my advantage because it made it easier for the am wakeup call!

In the morning I had my coffee all ready to go! :thumbsup2See..... I was finally catching on. After coffee DH and I went to the health club. Today I decided to try the eliptical. My decision was easy since two of the treadmills were already in use which left one for DH. At least the eliptical had a working TV. Having not used an eliptical before, I took it pretty easy. Muscle confusion is great, but lactic acid in the muscles is bad. I didn't want to be using some obscure muscles that were going to be shocked by a new exercise. So while DH was huffing and puffing on the treadmill, I was having a good old time. :rolleyes1 La Lala Lala ......"So what park should we go to today?" "What FP should we get first?" "How hot do you think it will be today?" "Any chance of rain?" I was very careful not to go too hard, but I was probably annoying DH with my chatter.

Once the workout was behind us, I started the daunting task of getting DS up. Let's just say he didn't bounce right out of bed, but at least he didn't sleep until noon. I'm not sure what time we got to HS, but it sure wasn't park opening. Still, it was a fairly acceptable time and I walked right to the TSM FP queue without the rope drop squeeze. I was feeling pretty good until I walked right into a wall of people. The FP line snacked out practically to One Man's Dream. I might be exaggerating a bit, but I did stand in that FP line for 20 minutes. I think it had to be close to 10am before I got out of the line. Our return time was for 1:30pm.

Here's LJ and DS14 waiting for me while I stood in the never ending FP line.

When we first got to the park I told DH to take the boys over to ToT and they could ride it while I got FP's, but they wanted to wait for me. About 10 minutes into my wait my DH starting calling to see where I was! Doh! When I finally had the FP's in hand we decided to go on Star Tours. For some reason I did not have a good touring plan for today. I was hoping to get FP's for all the three big rides, but we were already well behind the eight ball.

Star Tours was a hit with LJ. We got the back row with nearly center seats. Perfect spot. Star Tours was met with LJ's usual praise, "AWESOME"! We felt pretty happy when we got off. Then we hit the gift shop. Uggghhhh! People everywhere. It was going to be one of those days. :scared: Since we were close to Muppets we decided to head over there. I'm not kidding when I say that the theatre was almost entirely packed! We also had a pretty full crowd in the preshow. I took this opportunity to take some "different" pictures:

LJ enjoyed the Muppets, but it did not quite reach his usually rating of AWESOME. Outside the Muppets we took a few more pics.....

I also took a picture of this cute little guy I found in the gift shop:

DisneyJune2009516.jpg

Today was the first day that the outside heat started to get to me. When we first arrived in Orlando the temps were in the 90's, but the humidity was low. The humidity gradually worsening throughout the week and I was starting to feel it early today. Next we decided to go on the Great Movie Ride, but when we looked at the line, it was out the door! :scared1: No way. No can do. I thought LJ would like the ride, but I've been on it many times and there was no way I was going to wait that long. So, we decided to do what we do best in the late morning......yeah that's right.....we ate at the ABC Commissary.

While HS has many good TS choices, I think the CS choices are somewhat lacking. Seriously, I have no idea what I had at ABC Comm. Clearly, it was not that memorable. And because I ate too much and it was still relatively early for lunch, I felt stuffed at the end of the meal. 1145 was our next FP time, so I told the boys I would go to ToT and get FP's while they waited in the AC. Yeah - I was feeling pretty generous, so I took one for the team.

When I got back with the FP's I suggested that we go see AI. I even asked one of the CM's if it was too late to audition. They told me I needed to come in now if I wanted to do it. I really didn't. I knew it would be time consuming and I sing a lot better when I am warmed up. Seriously, when I was younger I could just open my mouth and sing. It would pretty much come out the way I wanted it to. But age has a way of affecting even the vocal cords and I need a real warmup before I can sing. So what's the problem with that, you ask? The warm-up I do sounds like a dying cow until I reach the higher notes. Then it sounds like a dying crow. It is seriously the worst sounding thing you have ever heard. It's called using your "inner voice". I learned it from a professional singer/instructor and it really works. Without getting too much further off topic, I will just say that I saw this instructor use it with a group of very average singers and after they were done the results were amazing.

Back to AI - we just barely managed to get seated for the 1200 show. Our show had 3 contestants - one very cute girl who looked to be about 22, one 30ish women who sings at church (like yours truely), and an 18 year boy, recent high school graduate. He was the "ringer". I learned from reading Lurkyloo's report that AI is designed so that each show has a "ringer". That is the person they want you to vote for. I realized that I will probably never do this show because I definately don't have the "ringer" vocals. I think I have a decent chance of getting in the show when the talent pool is diminished, but I definately don't have the ringer looks or talent. I've got more of a folk singer/songwriter thing going on. If you're curious, click on John's song and you'll see what I mean. Plus I am a certified alto. I struggle with high notes.

So let's meet the contestants, shall we......

DisneyJune2009524.jpg

I voted for the first girl. She sang some country song, but she didn't quite work it well enough. She had a decent voice though. The cute girl sang Black Horse and a Cherry Tree. That song seriously has no range whatsoever. It's kinda cute, but no one singing that song is going to win.

DisneyJune2009534.jpg

The boy sang Somewhere Over the Rainbow. He was good. Probably the best, but they wanted him to win.

DisneyJune2009539.jpg

They did this video clip of him running through a bunch of girls and the filmed people outside clapping for him. It was such a set up. There was no way this shrewd talent critic was going to fall for that. Plus, I don't know if any of you have ever heard of Eva Cassiday, but I discovered her on You tube. She died over 10 years ago, at the age of 35. She has the most amazing voice I have ever heard and she did a cover of Somewhere over the Rainbow. After hearing Eva, well, no one can compare. If you like music, I urge you to google her cause she was a simply amazing, undiscovered artist.

Oh....here are the judges.......

DisneyJune2009525.jpg

They really did act a lot like Randy, Paula, and Simon. Except they left out the, "Yo dog. It was just alright for me. A little bit pitchy in parts".

Here they are again........
DisneyJune2009544.jpg

DisneyJune2009549.jpg

AND the winner is..........

DisneyJune2009546.jpg

John somebody. What a shocker!

Up next..... TSM......and will we ever get a FP for RnR?

Good think getting the coffee ready the night before! I try to do that at home to make my morning, and my addiction to coffee, easier but I hardly ever remember. I also have been meaning to thank you fo the heads up on the size of the coffee cups! There is no way a tiny coffee cup is going to cut it for me. I hate going places where they give you the smallest amount of coffee possible! I will be bringing my own cup!!

Sound like a pretty good day at HS so far! I love your pics from inside Muppet Vision!! I have to do "different" pictures next trip!

It's too bad that AI is a fix!!!! I have to come back and listen to your song later or tomorrow! DH is watching one of his shows next to me and I'll get in trouble if I listen to something right now!

UGH! I hate crowds and humidity but it sounds like you had a fun day anyway! I agree that HS needs some decent counter service places!

Definately bring your own mug if you don't want to drink out of something that should be in a little girl's tea set! I swear the best thing for quick coffee in the morning is the Kuerig. I got one as a gift and I love :love: it! Quick coffee in 30 seconds. By DH objected at first, said that is was not cost effective, but he loves it now. He uses the cup that you put your own coffee in so he feels a little greener.

I'm not sure if AI is a complete fix. However, I did read someone else's TR that said they picked the song the contestant had to sing. What's up with that? I guess the whole thing is to make an entertaining show. I don't want to skip too far ahead, but the person who did win the finale was amazing. Really, really good. They did promote this person, but IMO the winner clearly was the best. I would not be surprised to see this person go all thw way in the real AI show. Seriously, there was some really good talent in the finale. I figured there would be in June, that's why if I ever do try out it will definately be during off season. I need all the help I can get! :rotfl:

Agreed. That's why this has to be my last summer trip for awhile. I hope we get good weather and low crowds in September. I want to walk on everything!

In the morning I had my coffee all ready to go! :thumbsup2See..... I was finally catching on.

Too funny. I almost posted that you should get it ready the night before. Then again...all our kids sleep through it so we don't even bother any more. I can't live without coffee, GOOD coffee, first thing in the morning. And I can't live with dinky cups (which is why I sent special trip cups ahead!).

LOL! I would have completely been given the evil eye. Or DH would have fallen off! I do look forward to the day when both of us can leave the room and workout together. Now we do shifts...or skip the workout lol. It is vacation after all.

The FP line snacked out practically to One Man's Dream. I might be exaggerating a bit, but I did stand in that FP line for 20 minutes. I think it had to be close to 10am before I got out of the line. Our return time was for 1:30pm.

Hey that's not bad, at least there were still FP's to be had. Crazy isn't it!

While HS has many good TS choices, I think the CS choices are somewhat lacking. Seriously, I have no idea what I had at ABC Comm. Clearly, it was not that memorable.

Yeah....I can see why people do a sit down lunch at DHS. But on the flip side it is "relatively" close to other lunch options...probably what we will do next time. Cool that you had ADR's on a fantasmic night...did you get the package? I want that package. I'll eat anywhere to get the package. I'm sure it will never happen.

He was the "ringer". I learned from reading Lurkyloo's report that AI is designed so that each show has a "ringer". That is the person they want you to vote for. I didn't know that but having gone to 2 shows while we were there, it's not surprising. I completely know what you mean about warm up....

I always thought I was a certified alto. Not so sure anymore...in college I got roped into Soprano and while "I" thought I sounded much better as an alto...reviews were mixed on that versus Soprano. Now I just sound awful no matter what but...not singing on a regular basis will do that. Sad.

You are an updating machine these days, Mary Ellen!

Thursday was MISERABLY hot -- and we were at Animal Kingdom for part of that day! That's all I will say for now. ;)

We didn't do AI so I loved all your descriptions and pictures. You also got some cool shots of the Muppets area -- they never cease to amaze me with their humor.

My husband is a really good singer and I wanted him to try out for this when we went, but I thought I heard you had to be in the normal AI age range, which would count him out. This is not the case?? I want him to do it and he said he would! Can you pick your own song? Do they show you the words or do you have to have it memorized? He can sing well, but sometimes improvises on the words!! LOL :lmao: It's kind of pathetic sometimes!

I'm making some brownies now so I might as well start a new update. After AI (sorry, I really rambled a lot in that in update, but I am sort of a music geek), we still had time to kill before our TSM FP. Less than an hour, but still time. We took a peak at GMR and the line was STILL out the door. Paaaaleeeezzze! So we decided to visit one man's dream. If you've read any of my other TR's you will know that I have always had a soft spot for OMD. I think that Walt was one of the most talented and visionary people of his time. I love looking at all the memorabilia (sp? I really don't know how to spell this). This exhibit was actually more crowded than I've ever seen it. Something told me to check for the start of the movie, so I walked to the theatre first. Sure enough, the movie was just getting ready to start. Amazingly, my party did not dawdle and we were seated in time for the show. The theatre was also more crowded than I have ever seen. Usually there are 3 or 4 random groups of people spattered throughout the theatre. Not today.....it was quite full.

This was probably the fourth time I have seen this movie. Maybe it's my fifth. Who knows? I have been to Disney 10 times and I usually visit every other trip, so this could be my 5th view. No matter how many times I've seen this, I still get choked up. I just think its such an amazing rag to riches story. I :love:Walt. I wish he would have lived another 10 or 20 years. He would have seen so much more of his vision come to life. Darn cigarettes!

After OMD we still had about 15 minutes to kill until TSM. We didn't quite have enough time to do the Animation studio (the exact name escapes me), but we did stop and browse in the store outside the exhibit. There were so many cool things to see.

There were a couple of really cool figures in honor of Star Wars Weekend:

DisneyJune2009558.jpg

DisneyJune2009559-1.jpg

I started talking to one of the artists who was drawing a picture of cinderilla or one of the other princesses. I tried to strick up a conversation by saying something stupid like, "Gee, is it hard to work in here with all these people hanging around?" He just gave me this look that said, "Geessh. What a stupid question?" So I added, "I love your work. It is beautiful. Is this your full time job?" He said, "Yes". Ok, now I was really winning him over. I asked him about his hours and how long he had worked there. We ended the conversation by him telling me how lucky he was to go to a job everyday where he loved doing the work. He reminded me that so many people work in jobs where they don't get to use their talents and that everyone should try to reach out with their talents and use them. That struck home with me, since I would love to work in a job where I used music everyday. A lot of what I do with music, like write songs, I keep hidden away from other people because I'm always afraid I'm not good enough. His message gave me a brief moment of confidence to persue my dream of getting some of my music professionally recorded so that I would have the confidence to share it with my friends and family. It was just a little spark of :wizard:

Now, finally it was time to go to TSM:

DisneyJune2009565.jpg

DisneyJune2009564.jpg

DisneyJune2009563.jpg

DisneyJune2009561.jpg

DisneyJune2009560.jpg

I'm pretty sure that someone thought TSM was worth the wait. Hmmmmm, I think he may have used the word, "AWESOME"!

DisneyJune2009562.jpg

After TSM our ToT FP had not come due yet (I think it came due at 2:30), but we were able to collect a 3rd FP. This time were chose RnR, except, much to my dismay, all the FP's were gone. The consolation was there were still ToT FP's with a return time of 5:30. I got 4 more of those!

Since it was about 2pm we decided to leave for our midday break. We had an ADR @4:40 at H&W for the Fantasmic Dinner Pkg. We planned to use the FP's when we returned that evening.

Up next.....Is H&W as bad as some Dis'ers say it is? Did we get to the theatre in time to claim our Fantasmic seat. How did LJ like ToT? Who won the AI finale?

Too funny. I almost posted that you should get it ready the night before. Then again...all our kids sleep through it so we don't even bother any more. I can't live without coffee, GOOD coffee, first thing in the morning. And I can't live with dinky cups (which is why I sent special trip cups ahead!).
I don't know why I never seem to get it ready the night before. That's why I love the Keurig, though they don't have quite enough prepackaged brands for the true coffee affecionado

LOL! I would have completely been given the evil eye. Or DH would have fallen off! I do look forward to the day when both of us can leave the room and workout together. Now we do shifts...or skip the workout lol. It is vacation after all.
It is so nice when you can first start leaving your kids alone. And I didn't have to worry about LJ cause the older kids were with him in the am (even though they were sleeping)

Hey that's not bad, at least there were still FP's to be had. Crazy isn't it!
I learned to be grateful for any and all FP's

Yeah....I can see why people do a sit down lunch at DHS. But on the flip side it is "relatively" close to other lunch options...probably what we will do next time. Cool that you had ADR's on a fantasmic night...did you get the package? I want that package. I'll eat anywhere to get the package. I'm sure it will never happen.
It took me 1 1/2 hours of phone time to get my June ADRs. I called right around the time they switched over to the new system. Dailed exactly at 7am EST. Finished at 8:30pm I knew I had to have the pckg to see Fantasmic. I really did it for LJ and I'm glad I did!

I didn't know that but having gone to 2 shows while we were there, it's not surprising. I completely know what you mean about warm up....

Oh. I bet that's not true. I used to sing like crazy in high school. I always had my guitar with me and I would play for anyone who would listen. Then I completely stopped until about 10 years ago. It's like riding a bike. You can do it! You just need to get a good warm up going.

You are an updating machine these days, Mary Ellen!

I have been glued to my computer today. I am overly obsessed with Dis'ing and this TR. I think I must have an illness. I haven't looked at anybody elses TR's tonight and both you and LL have updates. I have towait and look tomorrow or I will be up for another 2 hours. Fortunately, I am off from work tomorrow, but I have tons to do.

CP - I just want to know one thing - Were you as hot as I was by the time I left Florida. My last day I couldn't even go outside. It was ridiculous!

My husband is a really good singer and I wanted him to try out for this when we went, but I thought I heard you had to be in the normal AI age range, which would count him out. This is not the case?? You have to be over 14 to do AI. There is no upper age limit. If a person over 28 does win the finale (which will never happen cause I don't think they would let it), they must give their golden ticket to a person in the right age group. The ticket gives them front of the line access to a real AI audition. You sing a capella first, any song. If you pass that they give you an ipod with over 100 songs. You pick one to sing in front of another producer. Then they decide whether to cast you in the show. You definately get the words in the back of the room like karoke. I thought you got to perform the song you selected if you get cast in the show, but I think the producers may pick something else for you. There is plenty of time to practice if you are selected. They even do your hair and makeup. If you go online to the Disney website you can see the list of songs.

I know the feeling of being obsessed. I am just beside myself that the past two days (and tomorrow) I have had to do things that kept me away from the DIS.

Yes, we were so over the heat by the time we left -- it was never that hot in June before. I think I lost about ten pounds from sweating alone. :scared:

.... but since LJ's rash was improving after a second application of hydrocortisone, I suggested that we head over to Epcot
[/IMG]

Definitely sounds like hives. (Derm Nurse here!) I think your first diagnosis of contact dermatitis was correct! :thumbsup2

Love that your son was concerned he might hurt your feelings about the resort... Tricia (DD13) would've just said she thought Jambo was "way cooler" and left it at that!! :snooty:

Loved your pictures of Sanaa... it does look so interesting!

I found it necessary to keep stopping so I could take pictures. Why do I always do that? :rotfl:

I do it too! :ssst: I'm slowly catching up to all your posts...

So glad you all got to enjoy Teppan Edo! Sounds like the boys had fun!

What great updates!! I wish you would have tried out for AI. Maybe you can in Sept. and I will come and vote for you for sure!! LJ is so photogenic and his smile in contagious.

I've learned not to write pre-trip reports as they always jinx my trips! I am going to try a trip report after this trip though.

You know, the crowds sound like easter crowds on your Hollywood Studios day. Man alive! I swore that if there is any way possible I will avoid holiday periods like the plague!!! I remember last Sept., during free dining, when we went on our 1st trip to wdw and left home two days after we decided to go! I in all of my wisdom (Yea, that got us really far), thought, "We can do this, we've been to disneyland more times then years you've been alive (said this to my daughter who is 25, I've been there 50 times). This will be a piece of cake!" Well, we had a 6 month old, a just turned 3 year old, drove from Texas, stayed at SOG and had absolutely NO idea of what we were getting into. When I saw the SOG parking garage I knew we were in big trouble!! But we fell in love and bought DVC on that trip. My daughter had been looking into it and that was part of the reason for the trip. I remember asking a cm at one of the cs restaurants why it was so crowded in september. She laughed and said park attendance was really low that day. So much for off season at wdw.

Fast forward to trip 2. Now I had discovered the wdw sections on the dis boards. This trip was scheduled for May and about a month or so before have to totally re-book, pushed up to over easter. (My son in laws leave from Iraq got changed). Hence easter crowds!

Now we are going in Sept. I have great reservations made, staying at AK for the first time (we were supposed to be at AKV for the opening weekend), so I don't want to jinx myself...lol I am even paranoid about posting this, as we had to cancel a concierge stay last Dec. 4-14th at AK. (Have I said how much I love the US Army?)

So, I'm sorry I hi-jacked your thread, but I am way to scared to do a pre-trip report. lol

Let me know if you are interested in a photopass share.

Morning all!

I don't have time to leave individual comments right now. I am off from work and getting ready to take my cat to the groomer. Yeah - that's right, my cat gets groomed. Then I am taking my kids to the beach for the day!

Be back tonight! Hopefully will post another update then!
