Keys to the Kingdom tour question?

Does this tour have to be pre-booked are can you do it on the day you're at MK?

You should pre-book. You can try to get in the day of, but don't hold your breath. I went on this tour on sept 29th... and all I can say is wow. I can't believe I paid 75 bucks to go on this. The woman that did the tour was perhaps the most annoying disney employee I've ever met, and proceeded to call us all by the most 'colorful' names I've heard. This is the south, so I go in knowing there's going to be sweeties and honeys, but at the point you call a 50 year old man "Sweet baby child." It's time to realize not everyone is from the south and that can be insulting. For a company that won't allow anyone to point, maybe they might touch on this as well. Worse, the entire thing was done in a question and answer format. If they cut this format out the entire tour could be done in 2 hours. So if you like standing in the sun while people guess at the reason why they used wood for bridges, go for it. (The answer is "Sensory tickles" by the way... said in a tone that was almost obscene.) Oh and at least half the time we were pointed to lightning rods. Seriously? Nothing more interesting in disney than lightning rods? This is the *absolute* first bad thing I've ever said about disney, but this tour was horrendous. I stayed through lunch, and then made some excuse to leave. It's a pity the rest of it was so horrible, I kinda wanted to see the utilidors.

I'm sorry to hear that your tour was so bad. I kind of assumed that tour guides are carefully screened, but it sounds like they're not.
We had an awesome guide...she found shady spots to sit and give us information; she gave us interesting tidbits in addition to the spiel and by the end, none of us wanted to leave. She truly left us wanting more...and her last story brought us all to tears- not one person left dry eyed.
That said, we were later on line to buy Dole Whips in front of a family on a VIP tour. I had to look twice at the costume and name badge of their guide, because she was pretty unprofessional in her conversation, commanding the whole conversation when the family was clearly trying to have their own conversation, talking all about only herself, and name dropping in a big way what celebs she has met there. I still doubt she was a WDW CM, but the name badge looked real. I guess some bad apples are in every employment pool.

Well I went on the tour on sept 28th as planned on the 9 am tour, it was magical! Best way to start my bday! Our guide was was very friendly and charismatic! The beginning had some question and answer structure but it seemed mostly to be to help assess the group knowledge/ interest and help our guide to cover the topics of most interest. I was a cast member in Epcots international program 5 years ago so I wasn't expecting to learn much new info, but I learned a lot of new things! She warned us from the get go it would be a full 5 hrs or more because she enjoyed talking about Disney so much! We had plenty of breaks and she tried to keep to the shade when possible. We went on potc and mansion and got some great inside stories on the devolvement and updates of both!
