Keys to the Kingdom or Segway?

Hi all,

After visiting WDW many times over the years, this time we have decided to do a tour (probably Keys) and was wondering if you have to use a day of your pass to get into the park to then do the tour or are you able to take the tour and not have half a day used while on the tour?

Thanks in advance,

Paul.

PS I've asked a 2nd Q a couple of posts down instead of starting a new thread, help on this would be apreciated too!

From when we took the tour last September, you did have to use a day off your park hopper (at that time) so I am guessing you will have to use one of your MYW days.

By the way...it was WELL worth it! Enjoy it!!!!

You must pay for park admission separately from the cost of Keys.

Thanks for the quick replies

I just hate the idea of using a days pass and then not spending *every* single moment in the park, I'd rather do the tour and then leave the park and do something else for the rest of the day!

Still it has to be done, I've been promising this to myself for years now :earsboy:

The choices are between the Keys in MK and the Segway tour in EPCOT, I'm swayed towards the Segway (purely because it it shorter and I'll have more time in the park itself) but has anyone done both and have a preference?

If you've visited the parks many times and begin to read a lot on these boards (welcome to the DIS! :wave2: ), then you won't learn very much more in the Keys to the Kingdom tour (IMO). I watch a lot on the Travel Channel and evidently my guide did too because she had very similar info from what I had seen on TV or read on these boards :rolleyes2 . It's neat to see "backstage", but if you don't get a great tour guide (and I don't think we did), then you may be a little disappointed.

The Segway tour, on the other hand, is a tour that I have not been on yet (hope to on our next trip). I have not read one negative remark about the tour. I have some friends that took the tour back in the fall and said it was a must do. I believe the Segway tour costs more than the KTTK tour, but I'm willing to bet it'd be worth the money. ;) Have fun!

 Thanks for that welcome Luv2Travel

That's something I'd not considered, since I do know so much already the KTTK tour may not be for me (I did want to see some of the tunnels though), plus since I *love* EPCOT and gadgets/technology so much I think the Segway is the way to go (I really want that Segway pin!).

We did the Segway Tour on Valentine's Day. LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it! My husband, son (18) and I thought it was the best. We learned quickly and we were on them for two hours. It was BIG fun! I can highly recommend. :Pinkbounc

We've done both tours and, of course, they are very different. I think I would vote Segway for you too. It's fun and really a "once in a lifetime" thing. Since it's only two hours long, you'll still have plenty of time for Epcot fun.

DH and I have done both the Keys to the Kingdom and the Segway tours. Both are great fun but being HUGE gadget fans ourselves, we found the Segway to be an extra special thrill. (so much so that we've done it twice now LOL)

Have fun with whatever tour you decide on!

I just signed up for the Segway tour for April. We are so excited about it. Just hope I can get up early enough to get there in time and not too hung over from celebrating my birthday the night before :)

We did the KTTK back in 2002 and we just did the Segway Tour in January. I say, DO THEM BOTH!!!
This is a tough decision. Yes, you do have to use a full day's park pass to do a tour. That said, here's what we did. For the KTTK Tour, we did the 8:30 AM tour and then remained in the MK after we were done. Our tour guide, Robin, was excellent. She explained the layout of the park, the architecture, some park trivia and more. We went in the backdoor at HM, JC, PotC and spent some time behind the scenes (SM and some warehouses) and in the Utilidors. Lunch was at Harbour House and consisted of sandwiches, chips, etc. We received a nice pin at the conclusion of the tour. It lasted around 3 hours or so. Other than lunch and being seated on a ride, there was no time for sitting. We had around 15 or so people in our tour group. We really enjoyed this tour.
We did the Segway Tour on January 26th of this year and really enjoyed this tour also. We did the 8:30 AM tour. Much to our dismay, the bus from POR to EPCOT did not start running until 8:00 so we got there just in time to get to Guest Relations at EPCOT by 8:30. We were supposed to be there by 8:15. Once we found GR (near the Electric Umbrella), we signed a waiver and headed over to Innoventions. The first hour is spend learning a little about the Human Transporter and then learning how to "drive" it. After a short restroom break, you head out into the WS for the 2nd hour. This is excellent, especially if you're a gadget/technology freak, which you are (me, too). This is an incredible device and you have to try it to believe it. You travel in single file for the most part with a tour guide throwing in some info about the WS countries along the way. There isn't nearly as much info given about the WS as there is info about the MK during the KTTK Tour, but who cares? That's not why I took this tour. There is a 15 minute period where you get to cruise around on your own, but you must stay within certain boundaries and not break the rules. Bring your camera because this is when your guides will take photos. Unlike the KTTK Tour, I would consider doing this tour again just because the HT is so amazing! You get a nice pin at the end of this one, also. This tour has a maximum of 10 people.
This is a tough choice. Have fun choosing!

Thank you for all your input everyone.

Finally decided on the Segway tour, all booked and paid for! We are on the 8:30am tour on the 13th of May, the last day of our holiday. Can't wait!

Paul.
