There seem to be very few excursions in Key West. Seasoned cruisers what would you recommend that is not on the excursion list?? It will be me, my husband and our almost 3 year old. TIA

i like to just walk around. its very interesting and there are some great shops. key west is the one port that just walking around doesn't bore me enough that i want to go back to the ship after a few hours.
very historic little spot and not hard to get around.

To really experience KW I'd want to stay there.

So for our port stop we took the trolley thing around town. We meant to take it around then walk to places, but we slept in instead. No time to walk around like we wanted. So we took the trolley round trip, then we got delicious ice cream at Haagen Dazs and bought some Tervis at the Tervis store, watched the people outside the aquarium looking at whatever they were looking at, and went back to our ship.

I'd do all that with a 3 year old, definitely. And the nice thing about a little kid is that they don't notice the naughty shirts in stores as you drive by on the trolley. :)

The trolley was great. You don't have to buy in advance - you can buy tickets right on the pier after you get off the ship. There are several different trolley companies - I did the one with the green cars just this past March - I cant remember the name now. I'm glad we did it. I had heard so much about Key West being a "walking" port where you can walk everywhere, which is sort of true, but you can't walk if you actually want to span the whole island! If you're thinking of going to the southern-most point, especially. Plus, if you're not sure where you do or do not want to stop (like we were), you can listen as they narrate and explain the different areas, and can hop on and hop off at will at the stops that interest you. Its a great means to see the whole island for a first-timer, IMHO.

Here's another vote for the hop on/off trolley tour. We did that and got off a couple of times, southern most point and the Ernest Hemingway house. The trolleys run quite frequently, so getting on another one was not a problem. We also found a small place near the start of the trolley tour where we bought frozen chocolate covered key lime pie on a stick - YUMMMMMY!!!!!
