Does the ship itself provide a good vantage point? We've been twice before and both sunsets were less than special; hopefully the third time is the charm.

I would say yes based on the posted photos we've looked at. Are hoping to find out ourselves next June! So I'd be interested in "live" experience also!

I saw the sunrise and sunset for almost 50 years of my life in Key west - I never thought much of it simply because it was such a part of our lives --then one day about 25 years ago, the sunset was discovered by "strangers" and from then on it became a part of life in seeing the beauty of it - each time I go home and witness it, I am in awe over the beauty of it -----I sincerely hope that you can witness one of the most awesome creations acomplished so many thousand and thousand years ago.

Deck 9 or 10 should provide a good perspective. We had dinner at Palo at sunset time, and it was GORGEOUS!! We had a windowside table and marvelled at how quickly it dropped below the horizon. There were a lot of people out on the deck watching it too.

Shirley,
After 54 years of living I can truthfully say that the Sunrises and Sunsets are more beautiful now than when I was a young man. Things we take for granted in our youth seem to be what has become all improtant to us as we get a little grey. Is it just me?

We have been to "sunset" at Mallory Square a couple of times (several years ago). Unfortunately a few of them happened to be in May/June when the sun was setting behind that little Island--so we didn't get the full effect of the sunset. I have been there in Feb/March time and I saw one of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen--and have the pictures to prove it!

I think that the whole crowd thing at Mallory Square can be quite amusing. It's a don't miss.

I'm a sunrise/sunset gal myself! Always have been. It's one of the things I was MOST looking forward to on our first cruise in January and I was not disappointed!

I was at work the other day, at the airport and the sun was just coming up over some planes, it had been raining all night and the planes and runways were all wet and glistening and the glow was deep orange, it was gorgeous!!! I was staring so hard out the window, somebody walked by and looked out to see what was so enthralling. After not seeing anything too special, he asked me what was so great and I replied, the sunrise! He just walked by and said "hmm, it happens everyday"
I just smiled and said "Some people just don't get it I guess".

I also spend my breaks/lunch looking out at the planes against the backdrop of downtown and the gorgeous Rocky Mountains.

I am including one of my fave pics of a sunset, just because :)

Can't wait to see a Key West Sunset on our next cruise!!!

Tzar is worth the picture all by himself!

He is one beautiful dog!

Lucky girl!

I love sunrises and sunsets. I once got up at 5:00 in the morning to take photos of the sunrise on the longest day of the year when I was staying at the beach in New Hampshire (and boy, was that water COLD!!!) I've taken photos of lots of sunrises and sunsets. But I don't think the realization of a Key West sunset can possibly live up to all the hype.

That being said, I know there are many people on this board who have very much enjoyed the sunset at Key West. So..., yes, you can see the sunset from the port (left) side of the Magic. The view would be just as good, if not better, than the view from the dock at Mallory Square, but you wouldn't have the carnival atmosphere that's offered at Mallory Square.

Ok, here's another sunset question...Western cruisers please?

Is there time to watch the sunset in Mallory Square and be back onboard by departure? It seemed from what we were reading that in June the sunset was very close to the time you had to be back onboard.

Deb

Yes, there is plenty of time to watch the sunset and get back before departure. We did not have time to get ready and go to our late seating assignment though. We went to Topsiders intead. It was a great sit down meal with all the service of the main dinning rooms. We had ribeyes, baked potatoes, and all thr trimmings.
The sunset festivities were a disappointment. Only two or three performers and maybe a dozen artists.

More info to follow.
