Key West Marine Park?

Hello Carla,
Once upon a time the reefs around all of the keys were awesome - the sea life was in an abundance - Sand Key was once upon a time a beautiful place - it does have a lighthouse in fact all up the keys there are lighthouses which have been in use for more years than I am, to protect the ships from being doomed by hitting the reefs - due to so much polution and invations, the reefs are dying and the sea life is not as it was when I was growing up - now I am sure you will enjoy diving in this area for it is beautiful - Sand Key once did have a great deal of sand, but over the years it has been reduced to very little - if you was standing at the end of Whitehead Street which is also known as the Southermost point , you would be exalty 7 miles Southwest of Sand Key - I hope you will enjoy it as much as I have over the years of being an ol' conch. Let me know if you decide to do it and what it was like ok.
Thanks for asking about my hometown.
Always
Shirley

Hey Shirley, I actually thought about addressing this to you, but I figure you answer so many questions about Key West. We used to go to Florida a lot, and I know what you mean. I can remember Sanibel when it was just miles of flats and you could find huge mounds of incredible shells, and well, now you are lucky if you can even find a path to the beach through the McMansions. Huge changes in 30 years.

We probably will go there and I will let you know.

I also need to get in touch with you about something else. Do you deliver thnings to the ship for staff? I wanted to send a packet of photos to Adina, server extrodinaire, appended to one of your lovely flower arrangements. Doable?

Carla

How thoughtful of you and well deserved by Adina. We met her last Nov. and she was great! She was always smiling and had kind words for my children. She fell in love with my daughter at the life boat drill. All this, and she wasn't even one of our regular servers!
Hope we get to see her this Nov.

The last I knew she was at Palo. She had said that would be her last stint, cannot remember how long the contract was supposed to last. My kids will be crushed if we do not see her in October.

Carla

Hey there Carla,
Thanks for getting back to me - I remember my dad talking so much about Sand Key - Norm has actually been there, got into the lighthouse and got to scout around it - of course this is when he was in his "terrible" teens :teeth: --you know indestructable -
He has been there a number of times since - also for just general information - Dry Torugas is being renovated - this tho is 68 miles from Key West and I understand very beautiful - I was telling Norm this morning that I feel like the only conch that has never been to Dry Torugas and to see the memorial to Dr. Mudd - looks like I am finally going to make it when we go back to key West - Norm and I have a class mate that is a pilot that can takes us down there - anyhow again let me know how you make out.
Always
Shirley

ps yep we can take just about anything to crew members.
