Key West Electric Car

Anyone have any experience with this? My wife and I would like to tour Key West on our August cruise, but don't want to have to walk everywhere. We had debated whether we wanted to do the official DCL Electric Car excursion or try to book our own directly. While we were trying to decide, the DCL excursion sold out.

I've found 2 other Key West electric car providers and used their web sites to email them about availability. Neither have responded.

Anyone have any advice, thoughts, or other information to share?

Book your own! Most of the time there are companies just off the pier renting them, but to be safe you should reserve in advance.

Even though they are small, they do have to be parked, and every place at Key West is crowded. Another way to see the sights is the trolley. If you book thru DCL, it is a "once around" loop. If you do it privately it is cheaper and is a "hop on, hop off" system.

I do have to put my 2 cents into this question --Key West Cruisers (Renata) will not only give you a conch discount on her electric cars, BUT she is also a "safe zone" for those visiting Key West - all you have to do is mention the disboard or my name and believe me she will take excellent care of you.

Here is her email - just drop her a note and she will get right back to you and in fact, she will even give you her cell phone number in case you have any problems. I have wanted a number of times to use her cars, but Norm and I always have our own -

She is great about getting back to you unless she had to go out of town - those that have used her service and drop me a note saying how pleased they were with the service and Renata so that is why I am always suggesting her to folks - I love mom and pop business simply because they seem to put more heart into their customers. That is just my thoughts and feelings ok?

She really is a nice person and I believe in her especially when she said she would give her cell phone number to anyone that wanted it for those "just in case" situations and she does give good discounts.
I am glad you are trying her and please report back your experience simply b/c I like to keep up that those I trust to take care of those that I recommend to different places etc, their words are kept.

FYI - we did this in September and had a nice time, but had an EXTREMELY hard time finding parking and had to park a long way away to go eat lunch. We enjoyed the ride but it decided it was not worth it because of the parking.

Disney Minnie, that's good to know. Hopefully we'll have better luck.

Since you've done this...how did you plan your travel/day? Did you use a particular map or travel guide? Any helpful hints or recommendations would be appreciated.

We have used the electric car on the DCL cruise and we also lived in KW for 2 years. Previous poster is right - parking for the electric cars is VERY VERY difficult. BE sure to ck the battery when you rent or you may run out of power on the way!. Duval Street is the 'main drag' and most everything (with exception of beach) can be seen there. When we were on the cruise, they had city maps on the ship and also at the cart rental place.
