I am looking to plan a **SURPRISE** trip for DH and I sometime in September. I think I want a Wed-Sun. Neither one of us has ever been there. Is this a sufficient amount of time to visit? We are not really bar/drinking people (I am the one who drinks occasionally). We will not be spending a lot of time at bars! I am looking at The Heron House or The Douglas House to stay. Both look beautiful. I wouldn't mind doing some snorkeling. What all is there to see/do? We will not be renting a car. Any experiences to share?? Thanks!!

Both guest houses are nice and there are scads others.

Your time frame will be plenty for Key West and if you're not big partiers it may be too much. Sadly KW is pretty much a party town where doing the 'Duval crawl' is an athlectic event.

There are some nice things to do, The Hemmingway House, a day trip to the Dry Tortugas perhaps but also know that we're still pretty ugly from the storms last year. Everything is not cleaned up and the landscaping is mighty rough looking.

I really like KW in general, there are a lot of great restaurants, beautiful archetecture and a few other diversions...Nude sunbathing, Gay/Lesbian friendly lifestyle, etc. But it really is a party town first.

Send a PM snelsonbrown for info. She is a KW native, who hangs around the cruise boards, and is more than happy to give anyone who asks info about KW. She will even send you an informational packet of brochures, etc.

I really like the nightlife scene...Hog's Breath Salon was my favorite, they actually have some pretty decent food in there :thumbsup2 I also enjoyed the Pirate Museum. pirate:

We stayed at the very end of Duval St., right there at Mallory Square, the place was hopping and was called Ocean Key Resort and Spa . I loved going to Mallory Square when the sun was going down. We do not drink and I have to say the place was paaaaaarty......I am glad I saw it, I would not go back, it was just a little rowdy for me. The morning after was always interesting, people sitting on curbs wondering what the heck happened.
