While we've been to WDW many times, it's our first Disney cruise. What do you use your KTTW for besides getting in your room? Are you constantly taking it out? Also, how do you carry your card? I am trying to decide if I should buy some lanyards, or if there is a better system.

Thanks!

Getting into the room, on and off the ship. Paying for anything extra like a latte or popcorn or a beer.

I like a lanyard, personally.

I use an lanyard and you won't need to buy one. If it is your first cruise, you can go to the DVC events onboard and get one for free.

I personally hate lanyards...I don't like having things around my neck. I carry a small crossbody purse just big enough to hold my card, camera, chapstick, some cash, etc. I would say it's about 6"x6". Works great, hands are free still and everything is securely tucked away in a zipped pouch.

You will also use one of your cards to turn/keep the lights on in your stateroom (at least on the Dream and Fantasy)

I use a lanyard and it works great but I rarely purchase anything on the ship and I use my library card for the light switch. When going to dinner I do out my KTTW in my pocket instead. My kids usually keep theirs inside the iPhone covers.

But you don't have to use a KTTW for that. Many people just use a library card or something else they have with them to do it, so no one forgets their KTTW in the light thing.

Seems like a hassle, I wish they would just switch to magic bands

I disagree 100%. I cannot stand the MBs, they are so awkward and childish-looking.

Yup. Magic bands would be a nightmare when it comes to getting through security at ports of call. They could also issue a card for that, but what's the point in having two items when you can just have the KTTW card? At WDW they make sense for many reasons, not so much on the ship. People that want the bands need to remember the card has the passenger specific details printed on it (dining rotation, evacuation muster point, etc)... not so easily implemented on a wrist band.

Plus it's nice to have a collection of KTTW cards lined up with all my different voyage details :P

You only need your card to access your room, make purchases aboard ship, and when you leave or return to the ship. Also to activate the lights on the Dream and Fantasy, though any similar sized card will do. You will need to take it out for making purchases as they swipe the card, but I was able to leave mine in the lanyard pouch for entering my room and when leaving or returning to the ship as it is scanned by an electronic reader.

I wear mine on a lanyard when aboard ship, but carry it in my pocket when ashore. DW prefers to use a small purse like AndreAggie does.

Using a KTTW to open a door while it's still in the lanyard doesn't work when you have more than one in the lanyard. I usually had 2 or 3 since I had the kids in there too, and it didn't work then.

So basically anything credit card sized works?? Like even old KTTW cards from WDW??
