Kevin....Sitting in Front of the Monorail with a Wheelchair?

There is a "Front of the Monorail" thread on the Theme Parks board and a lady asked if it has wheelchair access, her 8 year son would love to do it, but is in a wheelchair. She didn't want to ask and get her son's hopes up. Obviously it isn't big enough in the front car to fit the chair, but will they maybe store the chair for her so her son can ride up front? I feel bad for him and I can't imagine no one has ever asked before, seems like Disney might have come up with something for this situation.

I don't have any personal experience with this but I'm sure that if he is able to get into the front of the monorail without his chair they will just put it in the first car for him and take it out at the next stop.

They usually only allow 2 - 3 people in the front anyway so if there are other family members joining them they could take the wheelchair with him and watch it during the ride.

In my opinion I would tell her to go for it and a Disney CM will make it happen.

On a sort of side note - the front car can be a little tricky to get into and out of (it's not a wide open car - the seats are kind of horeshoe shaped along the front window with the drivers seat/controls right in the middle). She may want to check it out first to see if he is able to manuever to get into and out of the monorail.

Ditto on this... my grandfather who has a walker... made it into the front car... but it took some patient maneuvering. His walker folds so it was able to fit. a Wheelchair that folds up might fit... but more than likely they could put it in the front car pretty easy, and I doubt anyone is gonna grab it and run very far when the doors open.

you might wanna think about doing this late mid morning, or mid afternoon, when t he monorail crowds are low. it was just after lunch and we did the front car from TTC to Epcot... the CMs were not in a big hurry, and neither was any one else.

Thanks for the info! I am going to encourage her to ask the platform CM. I've ridden in the front a few times and it really is a magical experience.

I'm still trying to do the TTC to Epcot though, haven't managed that one yet.

Is it a wheelchair that can be folded up? While it may be tricky, I have gotten into the front with just me, two small kids and a folded up double stroller. It's a front to back stroller and these things are huge. While it's an awkward space, it can be done. So, like the others said, if he is mobile enough to get out of the wheelchair, it can be done. And it can be stored in the front folded up, or in the next cab. Good luck and enjoy!

We took a Sit-N-Stand stroller with us last month and the four of us and our large stroller all rode in the nose. The driver say that if we didn't want to collapse it we could park it in the first car, so I would imagine they would do the same for a wheelchair.
