H is silent in Texas. We have a town called Houston which is pronounced U-ston. We have a town called Humble, which is pronounced Um-ble. And my last name which in not prounced Oll-and (the H is used). But what gets me is the street named Kuykendahl, which is prounced Kirk-en-dahl.![]()
Fellow Texan here to verify this is correct. I also vote for puh cahns and here they're called crawdads (or even crawdaddies). Also:
I live near Gruene (pronounced Green)
which is near Boerne (pronounced Burn-E)
which is south of Manor (pronounced May NOR)
and also close to Burnet (pronounced Burn it)
and the Guadalupe River (pronounced Gwad a loop E)
unless you're in Austin on Guadalupe St (pronounced Gwad a Loop-Austinites are too lazy so they dropped the E

and just north there's Pflugerville
and then there's San Jacinto (pronounced Ya sin ta)
Not to mention an area of Austin called Manchaca (pronounced Man shack)
and the Pedernales (perd nall us)
I guess in TX we're a little lazy with our dialect so you can call 'em Pee Cans if you want!
